I literally just woke up and read this post while half asleep.

So im assuming there is a difference between the festival and half time show?

im in Australia and know nothing about it.

Same here mate, I woke up this morning and half asleep I thought it said half-time super bowl show.

I have always wished GnR would play the AFL half-time gig, but it might turn into another Meatloaf massacre. Shit PA system would not come across well but they could just do Jungle, Patience and Paradise City and maybe throw in One in a Million. :-)

Wow never read that before, crazy to think all the vocals were ready by the end of 2006 but the album took almost 2 more years to be released.

I remember reading that article, or a similar one, just after CD was released and it was some guy stating that Axl came in and nailed his vocals in just one or two takes. It may have even been a different guy referring to a different recording session but I clearly recall how impressed the audio engineer was that Axl came in and in just a few takes for each song he delivered high quality vocals that were possibly the end product!

    Nope, it’s the same turntable.

And the a2 plus you plug in to the back and the good thing is that the 120LP has a built in preamp and those speakers are powered so that’s literally your whole setup. It’s super simple. Actually, when my girlfriend lived up in norther California for a whole, that’s the exact setup I set her up with and it was perfect.

Thanks Mate, I appreciate the advice. I have just ordered the 120LP and can’t wait to get it. And I have seen a good series of several short YouTube videos of a guy talking through the parts and setting up of the AT120LP.

    Cheers, Scott

Get an audio technica ATLP120 for $250 and some powered audio engine a2 speakers or something similar and you’ll have a pretty decent setup for under 500.

Is there a difference in the model you have suggested and the ATLP120 with USB function ?  Is the ability to record your vinyl onto a USB a good feature or is the audio quality sub-optimal?  Just wasn’t sure if it was a worthwhile feature that I should try to get.

Also, is there a difference in sound quality with wireless speakers like the audio engine a2 speakers you’ve suggested, compared to speakers you plug into the back of the turntable?  I feel like connecting up with wired speakers should be superior in terms of providing the sound from the vinyl out the way it should be?

  5. Thanks Stiff Competition, Russ TCB & Coma16 !

That is the one I have thought about considering the most after a good month or two of research. So it is actually great to hear you guys speak highly of it instead of internet reviews. I’ve seen it at a local JB HiFi store for $599 here in Australia (AUD) but sounds like it’s worth the money.

    Cheers fellas 😊

  6. You guys are amazing - I would love your home set-up, gear and albums!

Im about to buy a cheap n’ nasty turntable to give my few remaining records a listen (sold them all off years ago), hopefully to buy some more regularly and get back into it. I just bought a Rainbow record, have you fellas got any of their stuff? I bought ‘Difficult to cure”, but I want to get “Rising”. I like to explore old stuff and check out the origins of some genres.

Im only going to spend around $500 for a basic player and speakers. So hopefully it’s not going to be too horrible 😊

We have Axl and Slash playing togheter. They're playing the classics, Shadow of your Love, Coma, Locomotive!!!!! Axl is singing Slither come on! Yeah of course we want new music, izzy ( there was a negotiation to bring him back) (and Steven (whom was giving a sort of a chance and maybe if he hadn't break his back...)

Complaining is free but Just remember we had Axl doing a residency with Dj ashba come on! Enjoy what we got... They are humans They do what They can. And certainly They don't owe us anything. What we did for humanity? I will listen and love doing it Appetite for destruction till the day I die and I Just can thank them for that masterpiece.

I don't know man Just being positive in this shitty forum

    Good post dude :-)

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that Axl and Slash would share a stage together again. I just hoped one day that they would just mend their relationship and reconnect on some level again before one of them dies. So seeing them play live together three times again now has been a huge bonus and one that is not lost on me.

Having said that, I'm just as keen as the next mad fan for new music, so fingers crossed as that is the number one thing that we all want.

Izzy doesn't have anything on Axl as a songwriter. He's overrated as hell by folks like you, but each to their own.

Dude I think everyone who has a brain inside their skull would agree that with G'nR the sum of all the parts was infinitely greater than any one of the individuals by themselves.

Whether Axl, Izzy, Slash or even Duff were the better songwriter I guess is a matter of opinion. And in my opinion I agree with you that Axl was the best of them all. Unfortunately he is certainly not the most prolific of them..!  :-(

How do people get hold of these " Set Lists" ?

I mean that looks like something any cunt with Microsoft Word could have put together.

I'm with you dude, anyone could have printed that off and stuck it up where it's extremely obvious as a joke. And no-one has evidence of Hardschool actually being rehearsed right?

Sounds awesome. Would be really cool if there were vocals on it and it were like, on an official CD or something that I can go buy in a store or listen to online, like an official release from the band. That would be crazy and cool and good.

What? Are you crazy? Go and play with your GnR toy truck and stop complaining! 😂

Just got back from tonights show.

To give a bit of perspective, this was the 9th time seeing them, first being when they opened for The Lords Of The New Church back in early '86 at Fenders Ballroom, last being in 2006 during the Universal Amphitheater run when Izzy guested for a 3rd of the super long set.

Anyway, tonight's show was good up through about 2/3rds of the set.  The last 3rd dragged quite a bit mostly because of the pacing of the tunes included.  I'm aware this was a mildly condensed version of the arena/stadium set but I have to say, if I paid good money to see this especially at a crappy stadium, I would have been bored much of the show and probably pissed afterwords.  The major thing that made this a good show was the setting (the Palladium) and the band itself.  I've never been disappointed musically by whatever lineup Axl has surrounded himself with, hell I thought the 12/19/06 show with Bumblefoot and Co was actually better performed than the '92 UYI tour LA Coliseum show I saw.

I got to the Palladium and parked just before 8pm when they were just about to start letting people in.  The line wrapped almost completely around the block the Palladium and it's parking lot is on and it took almost exactly an hour to get in.  I saw one guy selling a few hard tickets for about $300+ each.  I didn't hear anything about a ticket drop earlier in the afternoon.  Once inside, the place filled up really quick and by about 10pm, people were starting to get restless. There were a *lot* of trashed people stumbling around, puking in the restroom well before the show started.  Close to 10:30, band came on and launched into It's So Easy and the crowd was into it and the band and Axl sounded pretty impressive.  Slash especially sounded awesome.  Fortus was often so low in the mix it sounded at times like a one guitarist band.  I noticed the keyboard chick was really helping on backup vox when Axl was hitting higher notes.

What quickly became a weird distraction was *every* instrumental break, guitar solo, etc, Axl would duck off stage into this little black tent on the side of the stage.  Often, he'd come out in a new shirt or a hat or whatever.  I think he changed clothes more than Stevie Nicks w/Fleetwood Mac. I get sometimes a singer might feel awkward or want the band to have the spotlight but in this case it seemed like Axl wanted minimal involvement on stage if he wasn't needed to actually sing.  I dunno, maybe he has a weak bladder or needs to hit the oxygen tank. Vocally, I thought he was pretty decent, certainly not the range of the good ol' days but I've heard worse.  I have to say, I haven't been paying much attention to his health or appearance since the very beginning of the tour a few years back so I was a bit shocked that he's become such a chunky guy.  Anyway, at least he didn't utterly suck singing like a David Lee Roth or (cue douche chills) Vince Neil.

I think the late start the instrumental breaks, the slow and unfamiliar tunes especially after Sweet Child Of Mine took a bit of wind out of the show.  People were streaming out after SCOM and the back of the floor thinned out considerably for the last half hour of the show.

Still a good show but it certainly scratched the itch to see them one more time.

Thanks for posting dude! Certainly great to hear the feedback and perspective of someone who was actually there. I see what you mean about the slow songs and guitar solos etc... I think it kills momentum and I would rather they just play 90 minutes of fast songs with maybe one slow song thrown in, but then again the last show I saw this year was Slayer - 90 minutes of face-melting ear assault then off they fuck. No encore. Just bang, finished, see ya'! 😁
