I totally disagree!  I love Tool's new album, in fact it is one of my favorites from them overall, just only below Lateralus

I love the new Tool album as well, took a few listens but now enjoy and appreciate the complexity, the moodiness and the journey of each song. The vocals are amazing - I reckon he is a very underrated singer. Hopefully GnR, or really Axl, takes note of the popularity of Tool's new release and the sales, and maybe takes encouragement from it!

This is the thing I've always said about Queen. You listen to pretty much any song, the guitar work and especially the solo is perfectly suited for the song, every time.

This is what I have always maintained about Slash actually, every single solo of his fits that particular song perfectly and his talent for that is unsurpassed !  He just gets it...

It stands for Artist and Repertoire.   Pretty much deals with the development and promotion of an artist or band and all that entails.

Oh cool, thanks Mate 👍  Always heard it but never understood what it was. It seemed like an important job though and someone that may work closely with the artist.

  5. I’m with those that say the song is not that good but I’ve only listened to it twice, so maybe it is one of those slow-burners that take a while to like but end up being great - but I doubt it. I know I’m spoilt however because I grew up with AFD, the most amazing rock album ever. I think a lot of you just start foaming at the mouth in love with anything unheard because we are so starved of Axl’s music and have been for a long time. Still, I would buy an album of Axl singing Christmas carols just to hear his vocals and incredible sense of melody.

No concert I'd rather see than a full AXL / DC show. Can't believe I missed them last time around.

Same here, would love to see Axl/DC. Closest I got was seeing Angus on stage with the boys at the GnR show in Sydney last year. And that was awesome. I would be thrilled if Axl even did a guest song or two on a new AC/DC album, I'd buy it just for that.

He did his high register in one take.. that's pretty damn awesome.  Inspiring for anyone who doubts he can still perform well in the studio environment!

Yes this is exactly what I take out of all of that, and the most important thing, that if true about Axl doing the vocals for this song in such a short space of time then that truly is impressive! His studio-recorded voice is phenomenal. I love the song and his vocals. I wish Axl would stay in the bloody studio and record many, many more songs before it really isn't possible anymore.

And great job and guests Gambit83 !

I think too much is made of mental health these days.  There's a fuckin' acronym for every second fuckin' personality trait, its used to excuse fucked up behaviour way too much, everythings some kind of an illness and drawn back into like, mental health.  Its valid is many fuckin' ways I'm sure but I don't think you necessarily do anyone any favours by making such a fuckin' big deal of it, perhaps I'm cynical but I don't think there's that many noble people out there sticking their necks out for the poor sufferers of mental health issues, more often than not its to do with a person seeking the spotlight, oftentimes people who already have a great deal of attention.

I hear this a lot with the boxer Tyson Fury, 'he's done so much for mental health!'...I love the man and everything but has he really?  These people all have something to sell you and the minute that is the case you should always question why that person is presenting you with 'x' narrative.  Personally I don't think there's nothing substantially wrong with Axl Rose, based on the limited information and knowledge of him I have.  Again, this is just an opinion, who knows, he might be totally batshit but I don't see it myself.

More often than not, I find, people that have mental health issues don't make a massive song and dance about because their priority is getting through life and being normal, they don't want people to know about that shit and have themselves being judged differently or treated like they're a fuckin' retard.  They say Joey Ramone had OCD all his life, like crippling levels of it, to where as a kid doctors told his mother that he probably wouldn't be able to live a normal life, nobody ever heard about that shit though, not until after he died because, as I was saying, the man wanted to get on and live a normal life and that kinda thing is ones personal business.

I'm immediately suspicious of people who are desperate to lay their lives on the operating table to be pored over like an opening wound by millions of gossip hungry 'fans', people that spend half their lives trying to make you understand them by telling you about every time their Dad gave em a clip round the earhole or whatever.  Fuck that shit.

Sincere people want to forge ahead despite their handicapps and shortcomings, not making a big issue of them and end up being defined by them.

Oh man, reading this just gave me LCSD!

It's just astounding in a bad way.

When I posted the article yesterday, I kept thinking "I don't think people are really getting the loss here" and it's evident that you really get it. It's just amazing in such a bad way.

That's the thing; there probably aren't copies of "original" master recordings.

For the genuinely ignorant and naive GnR fan like me, can you explain exactly what you think has been lost or we have missed out on as a result of this fire?

That is true but i hope they are wanting to increase their discography.  Metalluca have said they like releasing new music because they still enjoy the recording and songwriting process which is cool, im sure slash still does with SKMC. Gnr is a different story.

Agreed Mate, and well said. GnR is wayyy different unfortunately. Like you mention, despite no money in new music it is the release of their art and the journey itself that some bands/artists enjoy, like Metallica, Slash, and so many of their peers. Unfortunately one Axl Rose is forever suffering from severe new music constipation - he just finds it too hard to get out 😁

it's hard if the frontman of the band is Axl. doesn't seem to want to release an album that won't stand the test of time so it takes longer to say something fresh musically speaking. Much longer. but now with Slash and Duff I think things will speed up.

Definitely agree, although it has been painfully slow with Tool as well, with some band members appearing very keen over the years to get new music done, but a controlling frontman holding everyone else back at his pace just because he can. So not too dissimilar really. Slash and Duff have been constant creative beasts over the years and don't suffer from Axl's perfectionism and paralysing fear of not putting out masterpieces!

Axl wins by attrition   I'm actually a huge fan of some of the bands of that era, especially the ones who predate the 'grunge' era, which I thought was a lot of hype, Nirvana were amazing as were Mudhoney but generally speaking I kinda like the guys they liked a fair bit more than them themselves, if that makes sense.

Me too. I liked the Seattle bands or grunge bands a lot so Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains etc and even they all hated the term grunge. But I too liked the bands that paved the way for them like Sonic Youth, punk bands, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone and even here in Australia we had Cosmic Psychos and Beasts of Bourbon. It was a no-nonsense sound as well as image -the polar opposite of what Axl had GnR become. I'll tell you a cool band though - Slayer. Saw them a few weeks ago and it was an intense and blistering 90 minute set, then a quick wave and off they fuck. No encore, just blow your face off sonically and then see ya' later 😉
