What is your favorite studio vocal performance by Axl?  Must be the whole song, not just a line or two.

For me it's One in a Million.  That song has the perfect blend of my favorite Axl attributes:

    • The patented drawn out words like "starraarr" or "make us cryyiayy"
    • The perfect balance of rasp and phlegm, especially in the line "they come to our country, and think they'll do as they please"
    •  The power is clean but raspy/rough/phlegmy all at the same time
    • Shows off his incredible range between baritone and screeching
    • The attitude.  Right or wrong, the attitude and swagger in the song can't be matched (Ok, maybe ISE matches/exceeds, but still...)

I don’t give a shit what all the do-gooders say, this song is up there with GnR’s greatest. The attitude - right. Brutal honesty from an artist at the height of his mega-talented output.

I must say though that I’ve never heard of the ‘phlegmy’ description before 😄

Anyway, I’m gonna say Nightrain, Patience and Better.

It's a tricky one Australia- it's fairly isolated in terms of touring. Going there it's difficult to tie in other dates in different locations without incurring significant expense, which means it often, sadly, means it isn't financial viable. Or not deemed profitable enough.

Basically....it comes down to money and logistics.

Yeah good points above. With Australia they can only really tie in New Zealand on the tour with some reasonable certainty. In term of the financial impact on the band themselves, having wankers like me fork out $500 a ticket is really just putting the financial burden on the consumer, and more than likely the promoter absorbs the risk.So the band should be fine.

I was literally just saying yesterday that I'm surprised bands haven't tried to tour Aus/NZ🤣

Aa far as banda returning to the road, along as it's done safely I think it's great.

As far as gnr returning to the road... I guess we'll see. I hope people enjoy it but I just hope that they don't continue where they left off. I hope that "the next chapter" actually starts there, and that the next chapter includes new material. They said they can't release music without playing live, so... here they have the dates that are looking fairly likely... the excuse machine is about to get loaded up. "All things considered it's a miracle we're going these dates, hopefully we can start to look at the new record next year".

Yeah I’m surprised too. On Sunday night I’m going to see Midnight Oil play here at an outdoor venue that can hold around 10 000 people so the domestic market here in Australia is starting to ramp up a bit. But I’m surprised that no overseas bands are coming here sooner to get back into touring and making money.

The new 50 sec leak of Coma from Tokyo 92 kick the fuck out all this shit.

If GnR upload some sneak peak like that in their social media..... the world would explode.

That 50 sec leak sounds okay but it’s just a very tiny segment /sample of a song. In the few lines of Axl singing, some of it sounds like a cat being raped by an elephant.

And besides, what would be the point of uploading these onto the official GnR sites? Like this was how interesting the band was 30 years ago, but now, hmmm...

Fair enough, but I can confirm it's absolutely fucking shit being in the UK at the moment, as literally everyone I know thinks. The mood is about as sour as it's possible to be, everything is locked down with no dates for reopening, there's no work, benefits cuts looming. So many people I know are seriously depressed....so while you may have found it great to pop over for a holiday (it's remarkable that we never closed borders or even had testing for foreign visitors at any point.....hence why we're so fucked now!) spare a thought for those of us who have spent most of 2020 and all of 2021 sitting in our houses! We've not seen family or friends for months and months!

The grass is most certainly not greener here, and I'd do anything to be living in Australia right now, looking forward to concerts and seeing friends!

I find it insane that anyone wouldn't really, when they're back to relative normality while we're still languishing in lockdown!

Apart from Melbourne and their second wave and long lockdown, and a few short-lived clusters in Sydney causing occasional two week lock downs, Australia is in a very fortunate position. Perth, Adelaide, Tasmania, the Northern Territory are all pretty much normal. Where I live in Brisbane, Queensland, it’s like COVID doesn’t even exist because it pretty much doesn’t. We go out to the beach, restaurants, cinemas, football games with 50,000 people all with no masks on. We’ve just been lucky and relatively isolated helps too.

It’s awful seeing how the UK has been affected. I know ICU Nurses there that are well and truly over it. It is a hard balance that Governments must try to achieve with lock downs, jobs, the economy, people’s mental health. There is no perfect solution at all.

  6. My son nearly died a few years ago after having a vaccine at school. His brainstem demyelinated and he was in hospital for a long time. This was a vaccine routinely handed out to kids and has killed kids before.

I was always pro-vaccine until then, now I’m not so sure. The same reaction that he had, acute disseminating encephalomyelitis (ADEM), happened to some people in the trials conducted for the COVID vaccine.

But that’s public health for you, some people unfortunately will be the one in a million chance of getting rare and potentially lethal reactions or adverse effects, for the benefit of millions of other people.

And that’s what makes his place fun to debate this stuff - I thought Perhaps, Atlas and Hardschool were awesome 😂. Zodiac 13 with vocals.....THATS the holy grail for me.

And agreed - Better really should have been a monster hit. Such a good song and one that would easily take its place in a career spanning ‘Best Of’.

Better should have been huge. Axl fucked himself by doing no promotion, not releasing the music video for it etc... Big missed opportunity to ensure CD reached maximum ears and kickstart a new wave of followers for GnR.

I personally really like The Seeker...

same here, I love it and Axl sounds brilliant on it. In fact, I wish he would just do more straight forward rock songs because he kills it!  Stop doing multi-layered complicated songs with strings, French horns etc... and strip it back raw. Nothing substitutes for plain old good songwriting.

Interesting to see how the reported news that Australia plans to keep it's borders closed for the rest of 2021, regardless of vaccine rollout, comes into play. Might put the dampeners on the GNR dates there.....

Why is that? We have just had hundreds of tennis players from all around the world enter Australia into Melbourne to play the Australian open. If sport can do it then so too can international bands one would think?

I hate the thought of leaks forcing Axl's hand, but it was too much of a coincidence for me not to lean that way.

Thank you Rick by take care of us.

What a glorious period that was. I will never forget hearing Atlas for the first time and how it instantly changed my life...along with everyone else's.

😄 I’m going to make a banner and take it to my GnR shows this November - “thanks to Rick he’s better than the old one (MSL)”

Have you guys ever thought that those songs are so old and dated up to this point that they could actually be a flop, if ever released?

Those songs are 20 years old, when rock was something completely different.

I can't stop thinking that people want "The General" only for its name, people never heard the song and the only "witness" we have is Sebastian Bach saying it was the heaviest song he has ever heard in his life, which doesn't mean much since the dude is over excited by ANYTHING!

I just think a lot of people are creating and living a really fucked up fantasy over here and are going to be so disappointed in the future.

Last but not least, Axl cannot be blammed for that.

This. There are so many hopeful & delusional souls here, it’s not funny...

Axl is obviously not firing any of the Lebeis people, who have essentially been his family; however, what theoretically could be feasible is that seeing how many fans complain, he could actually think about it and eventually hire some more people just to help out with the PR/promotion stuff… Ideally, these additional employees would be the ones to communicate with the fans, while TB could focus on merchandize and booking concerts, which is the only thing they should be doing in any case. That itself would be a huge step.

This is a great idea and the most sensible thing for the GnR brand moving forward. The Lebeis family have actually been very, very good at organising world tours and the logistics of such a huge undertaking, so credit where it’s due. But they have no idea about PR and marketing & promotion so this is an area that has hurt GnR due to it being largely ignored. Having said that, they still sell millions of tickets so obviously it’s not hurting them too much financially!

to be fair, Chinese was eventually released. The reunion eventually happened. everything is painfully slow so maybe it's not dead, just resting.

Axl made a lot of money from the tour and could be working on it when he feels like it, we don't actually know. I don't expect him to share real information about new music even if it exists until he can see the finish line cause he promised shit in the past that he could/would not deliver on time or at all and I don't think he's even close to completing a current Gn'R album so why say anything at all if you don't seem to really view interaction with your fans as a positive at least most of the time or just a burden/risky move?

honestly, if say, a great Gn'R album is released 2 years from now, would you still consider this band dead?

it would be almost impossibly pathetic and just plain embarrassing for this band to come to an end without releasing a final album with Slash and Duff back in the fold.

Good points, yes CD was eventually released. I remember 20 years ago thinking it will never happen. But it did, however that was 12 years ago.  If GnR released an album in 2 years then I would not consider the band dead. So to me its all about creating music and releasing it. Otherwise they are currently just performers.

I agree that Axl wouldn't even contemplate discussing a new album unless it was actually in the final stages of being released as he just looked silly in the past and copped it from many people in the industry to the point of becoming a global joke.  And that would go for everyone currently in the camp. They know better now, and were happy pre-covid talking about how they are successfully touring and playing to millions. And they have done that very, very well. Axl has been very professional for a very long time and really proved alot of people wrong. Now only if he could prove alot of people wrong about the popular opinon that he is frightfully reluctant to release his art to the public.

Mmmm that didnt work too well .  Ok back to normal...

I do understand it might be quite galling for a two minute fan to come on here and ask for positivity, .if I knew how to cancel a thread I would.  Maybe a moderator could do it.

😁 Nice try and in some way we can appreciate your positivity. To be honest with you, it really is all on us that we are the delusional fools that expected more over the years. We know the deal but yet stupidly hope for more.

Axl and Guns n’ Roses, are performers now, not artists any more and that is the difficult concept we struggle with.

Like RUSSTCB alluded to in his post above, you’d be better off enjoying other bands and accepting what was incredible in the past, but is dead now.
