  1. The current line up may not be suited for the follow up albums that were already written.

Didn't Axl say back in the day CD was to ease fans into the new sound of guns n roses which was going to be industrial like?

If so, the stuff they have to release may not fit this line ups style esp if the songs we have not heard are more like CD, Rhaid, and Silkworms.

This band is more straight up rock than those kind of songs. Wouldnt this line up be better served to write their own songs as a group than just rework songs that were done by a different set of players? Plus those songs are going to be a few years older and may sound even more dated.

I think this set of players would be much better off writing a straight up rock album ala sixx am than to just cover what BH, Robin and co did before them.

I agree. I always thought for CD they should have released a 2 or 3 disc set (plus maybe a collectors edition with alternate takes/live tracks) bringing that era to an end then do a final Chinese Democracy tour with the main emphasis on the new songs then record a 'regular' album. I was pretty surprised when I found out that CD was only a 1 disc set. However, it looks as though if and when the next album is released it will be more stuff from that era. With Bucket, Brain and now Robin out of the band it feels like a very different band. Ashba is very different to Finck and Bumble to Bucket.

Having said that, I'm over the moon they are touring having waited since 2002 to see them.

  2. Not to be an asshole, but...anyone else worried that there might be another volcano eruption during the European tour?

Dunno, these things happen. Hopefully it won't disrupt any concerts. If it does then the dates will probably get rescheduled anyway. Euro tour isn't until the summer anyway.

  3. Music videos: they a must, they'll not only get tons of views on Youtube but they'll no doubt get viewings on Kerrang, Scuzz etc.

Bonus Tracks: Not too sure about new bonus tracks seeing as how some of the tracks that weren't on CD are going to be on the next album and Bach said that Axl had tons of material (if those albums ever see the light of day of course...) Although as I said in the other thread something like Deep Purple did with their last album would be cool which was some live tracks and some alternate versions and one new song. Seeing as how many people want to hear some of Bucket's solos that weren't included not to mention Brian May's solo. I'd also say add some rerecordings of old songs for good measure.

Alternate covers: this was meant to happen wasn't it? Not too sure about alternate covers as only a handful of people would buy all of them. I'd say better artwork though, I quite like the simplicity of the album cover but some of the official artwork on recent posters etc. is stunning and would make a better album cover.

Axl interview: 60 minutes with Axl would be awsome but I also think he or other band members should appear on radio/TV chatshows around the world when they are touring.

Making of Chinese Democracy: As controversial as it was I'd like a movie similar to Some Kind Of Monster. Metallica had a hard time making St. Anger and Guns certainly had a hard time making CD.

DVD/BluRay: Great idea, could be bundled in with the CD or sold separately.

Proper website: A must, afterall that online shop has been coming soon for ages! Tour dates could also do with updating.

Huge relaunch: This is the main thing that GN'R needs. Like what was happening around '02 with the VMA's. I think if CD had been released in '02 it would have been a far bigger success as there was more hype at the time.

Free CD in newspapers: Prince did this and all the added exposure did him a world of good. I wouldn't suggest giving away Chinese I'd think similar to what KISS were thinking of doing over here in the UK which was releasing a greatest hits CD via newspaper (or it could always be Appetite for Guns) but recorded/rerecorded by the current lineup. It would also be an idea to have a picture of the whole band together on the front cover. This would show the general public how good the new lineup is and who they are. Most people only know Axl is in GN'R and couldn't name the other members.

  4. People's voices change with age the thing is though Axl's voice isn't completely gone and he's still one of the best frontmen around. Look at Robert Plant, did he sound as good as he did in the 70s at the O2? No. Was he completely fucking awsome? Yes. Same applies to Axl.

  5. Bach said the 3rd album was meant to come out in 2012 i think, but with this band nothing is what is seems, and something is usually nothing.

    Ah so that's where I heard 2012.

The results of this poll are very surprising. I thought alot of people would be against it.

Don't see why rerelease with promotion = good things for GN'R and a rerelease with promotion stuff = good things for us and GN'R :D

Seeing as they're on tour they could always release a 'Tour Edition' of Chinese Democracy like Deep Purple did with Rapture Of The Deep. Purple's had an extra CD with recent live tracks, alternate versions of songs and a new track. It would be cool if Guns did something similar, some alternate versions would be cool Catcher with Brian May's solo etc.

  6. maybe re-release CD as the double album it was meant to be.

As much as I love Chinese Democracy, I wouldn't like CD I to drag CD II in any possible way.

I think that it will be better for CD II to come and live without the shadows of CD I and all its bad press and problems..

    +1

I guess we'll hear new music 2012 at the earliest wasn't that when the next album was rumoured to be out anyway. I'm sure I read that somewhere...

  7. I don't know if I want to see a 67 year old Axl performing Welcome To The Jungle. That just seems ridiculous.

It's kinda like watching a woman getting fucked by a donkey. You really don't wanna see that, but still you're a little curious about how it's gonna go down...

The question is will a 67 year old Axl be going on stage at midnight?

  8. I'll echo wanting to hear the/a rerecorded Appetite or Greatest Hits set.

Thing is though, I can't ever see it being released. The rerecorded version is over a decade old and features an almost completely different lineup. Although it is nice that we got Sweet Child O' Mine which is all I think we'll ever get from that.

Also if they do rerecord it with the current lineup as a standalone album it wouldn't have lots of potential, it would only be us, the diehard fans that would buy it out of curiosity. As with Journey and KISS it would probably only be a viable option if it were released with an album of new material or a rerelease of Chinese. Another option which it was rumoured KISS were going to be doing with their rerecorded greatest hits album is to give it away as a 'free' CD in newspapers. Prince did this with Planet Earth. It would also be a good way of getting the general public to hear the latest lineup and realise how f****ing awsome they are and stop bitching!

Of course if it did get released in some shape or form it would be very contraversial as was Kiss Klassics (the rerecorded stuff that KISS did). I actually think KISS are a great comparison with GN'R as many rock fans dislike the new (although its not really that new at all) lineup and the fact that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss have gone. The Slashites are similar to the Frehleyites like that. I think Sonic Boom did KISS a world of good as did the rerecorded stuff showing off the current lineup. I'm surprised that Chinese wasn't released with some rerecorded stuff as it seems to be the trend at the moment.

  9. Ronnie James Dio is 67. Enough said. Dio was touring with Black Sabbath up to his diagnosis with cancer (and if he recovers still will be as they have dates booked) and is still one of the best frontmen of all time; running around and singing brilliantly. rock3

So Axl's got another 20 odd years yet.

  10. Would be cool if Guns did what Journey and KISS have done recently with their latest albums which is to release (or rerelease in GN'R's case) the album alongside a selection of old songs rerecorded by the current lineup and a DVD of a recent live show.

Rereleasing an album did Nickelback a world of good, nobody cared about All The Right Reasons first time around, second time around in 2007 Nickelback became superstars (here in the UK anyway). Could work for Guns. Rerelease it and then release some new singles. Mainstream radio stations in the UK play November Rain a lot so possibly releasing some ballads like Catcher and This I Love may work well as they are radio friendly.

Although I think the whole Chinese Democracy saga will end when the world tour ends.

  11. I would only be happy with leaks if by close to the end of next year we have heard nothing concerning a new album and even then I wouldn't be too happy about it. The fact that there were only three songs on Chinese Democracy that I hadn't heard before really took some of the wind out of the sails for me. Plus it clearly causes huge internetal problems with the band and management which stunts any progress that can be made.

That's one way to look at it - leaks cause problems for the band.

Another way to look at it is - delaying your album for 14 years causes problems for the band.

Agreed. If the album was released in 2002 when it was allegedly finished then leaks wouldn't have been an issue.

  12. When they played Download the other UK dates came after bar the warm up show at Hammersmith. So I guess we could expect a small warm up show in August before Reading/Leeds and then an arena tour in September/October. It would be awsome if they did shows before August though.

Of course we may not even get other shows, in 2002 they just did Leeds and London.

Actually they DO shows before August...They have 2 or 3 festival dates in Scandinavia in early June; So I truely doubt that will do these gigs, twiddeling their thumbs until Reading and do an arena tour afterwards. It would make sense if they had an open air tour, doing festivals and some shows on their own in june, july, august!

I sure hope so stuff before August. Moving to Cardiff in September from the South East of England and GN'R haven't played Wales before. Hope they play The O2. Another small gig would be awsome but will probably be nigh on impossible to get tickets for.

That's an awesome series of concerts you've got there in your sig! I'm also seeing Pearl Jam this summer, but still I'm envious...

Haha thanks. Hooray for student loans! The Download Festival lineup is so awsome this year. I'm just hoping that GN'R go down well at Reading and it isn't another Download '06.

  15. As people have said on the whole bands don't play tons of their latest material. This is because I guess on the whole the fans that go aren't completely diehard fans who have played their latest CD tons of times over and go because they want to hear the greatest hits.

Take Deep Purple as an example, when I saw them back in 2007 at Brighton on what was their Rapture Of The Deep tour they played two songs from that album even though it was a brilliant album. I'd have been happy if they played the whole album but most people would have probably got bored as they probably wanted to hear the greatest hits. It's also not surprising that Deep Purple also play most of their songs from the classic lineup even though Ritchie Blackmore and John Lord aren't in the band anymore because they are awsome songs and people know them.

I think it would be awsome if GN'R played all of Chinese Democracy all night every night but it aint gonna happen. I'm just happy I'm finally going to be seeing Guns N' Roses at Reading this year after waiting YEARS to see them. If they play only two or three songs of CD who cares? Whilst I love the album I know whatever they play it will be awsome because from all the bootlegs it seems that GN'R are still the best live band around, however many CD songs they play the show will still be awsome. Also shouldn't Axl and the band get to choose what they play?

As for whether or not it is Guns N' Roses, it is. Lineups change, look at Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Smashing Pumpkins, Megadeth, Metallica, The Rolling Stones etc. People should get over the fact that Slash isn't in the band anymore. In fact I want to buy a T shirt which says: "Slash isn't in GN'R anymore GET OVER IT!" All GN'R members past and present have been awsome and made awsome music, I don't get this one or the other thing when it comes to GN'R I like both the stuff the former members have been doing since leaving and GN'R.

  16. Wonder if/when any more UK dates will be announced. I'm guessing after the Friday/Sunday for Reading/Leeds has sold out. Hopefully there will be a small(ish) warm up show for Reading like there was with Hammersmith in 2006 for Download. If the Reading sales go well I'm hoping for a show at The O2 in London. Although there was around a month between the Download show and the arena shows in '06 and by mid/end September I should have moved to Cardiff. Still can get to London fairly easily though. Seeing as how I missed out in 2006 I'm going to try and get tickets to whatever London shows there are. Whenever GN'R tour it feels like it may be the last time to see them. :(

  17. I hope that there won't be any idiots who will throw bottles and other stuff at Axl and the guys. Although saying that looking at the lineup on the whole it isn't very rock/metal heavy so will the people that go even know about the politics of GN'R; and if people are going just for GN'R (as I am) then I doubt people will pay around 90 quid to just go and moan. The only issue may be the whole going on stage late thing although most days at festivals finish around midnight and most people camp so timing shouldn't be an issue. Also from a purely selfish point of view I hope Axl does go on late as I'm not camping and am getting the 4:40am train home the next day so the later Axl is the less I have to wait around in the morning!

  18. 90 quid for one day??!?!?!?

I paid 60 quid for the whole weekend the first time I went in 1994

Well it's £75 but those pesky fees bring it up to £87 and that's inflation for you. It's a shame they aren't doing Download though as I'm going there and would rather have Guns than Aerosmith.

  19. I got a Friday Reading ticket just for GN'R. There are few bands I would pay pretty much £90 for but Guns are one of them! I guess there may be other dates but I don't want to risk it, back in '06 I couldn't go to the Wembley gig even though I had the ticket in my hand and have waited four years for another opportunity so I won't be missing this!
