    Hahaha, no.

    This is bordering on parody.

Trent’s lyrics switch between an autobiographical and detached first person present to a passionate, direct second person and comment on addiction, suicide, women, and capitalism. Axl’s dabbled in these topics but never with too much grit or a level of accompanying romanticism.

Axl’s lyrics are abstract, passive, and in a word: dramatic. He’s never met a metaphor he didn’t like. Instead of focusing on narrative, Trent is forensic and rarely poetic. The music is equally as brash.

Trent’s arrangements show a greater level of discipline but also a greater level of rigidness. He started to loosen up a bit when he got into the poppier Year Zero and With Teeth but the structure is let a loop/sequence play out and when it starts to get old change the key or switch directions.

For all Axl’s pretense about getting into new and/or industrial territory, none of the songs are based around loops and always have the same structure. Overdone intro, verses, chorus, verse, bridge, chorus, outro with elements of intro. It’s one reason why I found “Oh My God” so refreshing. First-person, direct, heavy, a bit different and way different from the CD song structures.

Nine Inch Nails songs are vocals high in the mix, drumbeat heavy, and washes of electronica. Guitar functions as a pure tone or tone enhancer. In AFD they’re set pieces, Chinese set pieces or orchestral.

In short, “Oh My God” is the only one I’ll accept but still, eh, not really. It’s Axl doing industrial. The rest of the songs? Not even close to NIN.

Yeah, the whole comparison between GN'R and NIN is a big meme.

Cool video. Listening now, there is also some good GNR talk that begins at around 16:45 :headbang:

But during the Q&A he expertly sidesteps giving a direct answer about a new GNR album with this golden statement  - "Like I don't...I don't wanna necessarily see Mick Jagger practicing his dance moves, y'know??

Totally, that was such a ridiculous answer lol.

BTW, about your signature, have you heard the latest record from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard? There's a song there called "Planet B". (They're the best rock n' roll band out there today)

    you have

you have better, rhiad, silkworms, chinese democracy and OMG that have their obvious industrial roots.

To me, industrial implies repetitive looping harsh riffs, etc. Silkworms and OMG, I guess, but I think the rest are just overproduced hard rock with orchestral elements or something! The album Chinese Democracy sounds more like Muse than industrial rock/metal (to me).

ut I think this track comes the closest due to the distorted bass and drum loop thing. Someone mentioned Ava Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins and I think that's a good comparison!

I already did that. I wont post any links, but if you want I can send my IG post with me playing the song. Of course, I did in less than 24 hours after it leaked, and I still needed to learn a lot of the stuff in the break and in the outro, but still...

    Sure, please PM!

All I have access to right now is a crusty Telecaster, gotta have humbuckers to do GN'R...

  5. After years of listening to the first verse, I feel oddly satisfied knowing how the rest of the song goes now.

I'm confident this would dominate modern rock charts.

Some of the more calm parts remind me of The Smashing Pumpkins.

I started playing guitar when CD came out and I can now almost play a few of the Bucket and Bumblefoot solos. I will try to learn this song by ear

Very cool! Does this mean Robin is getting some songwriting credits? I havent followed too closely for a while now, but always wondered what it felt like for Finck to have been there all this time and then Ross and Alejandro(?) show up as co writers.

Nah, only Trent and Atticus are on the album. Robin is not involved there, Trent actually sings those parts of that song on the album

The link seems to be down but here's another

In case that link is taken down, search for "NIN Mad Cool Festival Madrid"

  7. Axl might have been heavily into NIN at the time, as evidenced by his recruitment choices, but I do not understand the argument that CD sounds like NIN because it really does not. For example, which Robin Finck guitar parts sound like NIN guitars? None. Which songs are structured like NIN songs? None really, because there are guitar solos and stuff.

CD sounds more like Muse or something with all the Marco Beltrami orchestras instead of NIN.
