Besides, it would be utterly ridiculous to think that in spite of them having worked on the album and having told us so (Slash etc.), they'd eventually say "it's just not happening" for some reason.

I get the point your making... but it never coming out feels like an entirely possible outcome.

For all we know Axl hasn't laid down a thing, or decided on a single melody. So best case scenario... in the worst case scenario... is that the music gets repurposed to SMKC or something in a few years. I don't think I'm alone in easily seeing them say "yeah the pieces never ended up fitting together but we had a blast with the touring... done."

If this unprecedented opportunity to hunker down and create music results in no signs of life with respect to an album by the time they get on stage again.... I'd say it's toast.

Honestly if I was advising them I'd say: Just nail a song. One song. Do a single. If Axl is gunshy and feels at all spurned from the CD-era, you need to walk before you run. Slash knew Slither was huge, he knew Fall to Pieces was a hit, they're not stupid. They've gotta know they've got something in the chamber after 5 years or whatever to polish up and lay down with confidence, to feel that collaborative success, hear audience reception and get cohesive and get Axl fired up to do more. I mean, maybe Axl has complicating factors we don't know about, but if not...

Could be, he doesn't seem very friendly when he talks about Bumble. Tommy sounds like the biggest ass from the CD era.

they all kind of sound like cliquey bitches grasping their meal ticket

who doesn't love the US version of Slide It In (... I'm sure a lot of people, haha... but I like it for Sykes).

and how huge does he sound on blue murder

it's a matter of personal taste of course, and I don't mean to shit on anyone's preference, but I think Slash never found the right singer for his solo projects/bands. Scott was the most interesting to me and he didn't really have the vocal range but I'm not sure what is worse: bone headed singers that come up with lyrics like "do you like the way I murder your heart" or Myles The Generic and the neverending tepidness.

    this is it

That doesn't mean they're not all technically proficient and good singers, either. I love both Snakepit albums, I saw VR and liked them lots... I see SMKC often.

But it's always been the vocalists holding Slash back. Singers write lyrics, vocal melodies and are the face of the band. Myles, Rod, Eric... they're not rock stars of the vein that capture mainstream attention. And no band with the most famous member being the guitarist really sustains mass appeal.

People wonder why rock is dead but honestly if someone like Harry Styles got a little debauched and had a band like GNR backing him and songs to match, rock would be back in an instant. It's the right frontman that gets you stratospheric fame.

There were lots of good bands even in the 80's and in rock's heyday that didn't get anywhere because they didn't have frontmen who could sell it.

I mean... I like Slash, but does anyone really think he would take an existing Robin and Bucket solo and make it better?

    Yeah he would. Definitely.

Because if it's a hacked up cut and paste job with plug-and-play band members and musical pieces from bygone eras, it'll be released and shrugged off in a week. A giant thud sound will echo through the digital ether and the book of GNR will be slammed closed. And with that awful taste still lingering, people will start to say AFD wasn't even that great.

Axl Rose podcast.  hes pretty smart and supposed to be funny, so he could probably give Joe Rogan a run for his money.  the difference is Axl has WAAAAAAAAAY cooler real life stories than Joe does.  And Axl would probably kick some guests asses once they piss him off.  I'd definitely love to hear him interact with other rock legends as well as the diverse backgrounds of Rogans guests.  would be fascinating to me.

    that would actually be awesome

he could engage all his self-help, personal development interests... his political bent... his love of music and pull from his career for endless stories and anecdotes with his star power and contacts ensuring endless interesting guests

he could do ayahuasca... and listening to music business stories and the creative process of music would be way better than anecdotes about the Comedy Store.

he'd really have to let his guard down, though, in a way that might be antithetical to who he actually is. that said, it seemed like he liked having a soap-box in his prime.

You mean spaghetti with sweet chilli o’ mine from the garden, served with some bad apples on the side stuffed with a dead horse meat, decorated with a new rose surrounded by scraped hairs of a dog? Oh my god, sorry, this I love.

would a GNR cookbook be worse than Fernando's other ventures?

    i think it'd be better

    you've already done several entries...

Nightrain braised lamb shanks? Axl likes his pre-show lamb.

  7. I dunno, the whole product band thing as some kind of label masterplan doesn't really jive.

They obviously had a look and a vibe they were going for, they were clearly image conscious... but the west coast tour, Slash and Steven / Izzy and Axl's friendships prior, living behind guitar center in a storage unit...

All I get from "built around an idea and a marketing strategy" is they wanted to be huge and they knew how to make headlines.
