  1. Reunion would be a disaster since the music Slash records now days is mediocre at best. A reunion is more endless touring, a new album that will take years to create if it ever comes out, or Slash fucking with the music already recorded for CD II.

Slash's music wouldn't be the reason for a reunion being a disaster. Axl would fuck it up. Oh and Chinese Democracy is way worse than Slash's songs.

CD is at least creative, something Slash hasn't been in decades. Axl still has potential to put out something great, Slash doesn't.

No its not creative. It's a bunch of pop songs with shredding and layers of stupid noise. Slash's music is not my cup of tea but at least he's not pretentious.

I meant creative in that Axl was trying new approaches. Slash writes the same damn song again and again. I would rather he be pretentious than to put no effort in at all.

Exactly. Rock n roll is about staying true to your own vision no matter what anyone says. Whether you like ChiDem or not it's Axl and his vision warts and all and that's why I love him. He's one of the last few rock guys out there willing to do it his way and not be swayed by corporate bullshit rock songs. I don't like a lot of Robert Plant's new music but he's doing the music he likes and i respect that. Be yourself. Janis joplin didn't always sing pretty but she sang the way she felt. I feel her and Axl are alike. They're raw and real and so often misunderstood. They don't play it safe in their music. Slash is still a great performer but his songs in my opinion lack the depth and meaning of Axl's on Chidem.

  2. I've seen all the legends of rock perform altho they are older now when I saw them but Axl had the best presence out of all of them. He is prob the third best concert I've been to and that is only because I saw legends Tina Turner and Led Zep in 2007. I'm saying this because it is clear that we can't judge Axl like any other normal bandleader coz he is not. His extreme perfectionism and insecurity has got to the point that his best friend and ally in the band, DJ, is even leaving. Altho I don't think Ashba is a very good guitarist, Axl has appeared the happiest on tour since this guy came into the band and they get on well. I sympathise with Ashba because I think her really though he was making an album with Gnr. His material prob wasn't good enough and Axl has very high standards. However I think it's time t=for Axl to put aside the perfectionism, and just release average stuff for his own mental health and to just get writing again!

Axl is far from a perfectionist. Just listen to CD and take a look at its booklet. A perfectionist would never release that Vegas DVD without rerecording vocals either.

Didn't Axl say that the album was rush released before he could finish the booket? I didn't even know a Vegas Dvd was released. Is it avail in shops and Amazon? So he released a concert dvd with no promotion? Sorry Haven't been on here in awhile.

I would recommend NOT to buy it, he sounds Awful, this is one of the clips from the DVD

Thanks, clearly his rasp and power has diminished over the years as he was not using a good technique to begin with. He could force it when he was younger but now his voice is just not going to hold up. He is a natural baritone and his voice on the versus of Patience and don't cry is still good. I wish he would use that part of his voice more often. He has a great natural voice without all that put on rasp!

His voice was pretty good in the 2010 shows, his voice did get better in 2014, but he was a disaster in 2011 and 2012

He was good in 2012 when I saw him but at times his voice was buried in the mix(I presume on purpose?) He performed "there was a time" when I saw him in 2012 and his voice was very powerful on the end screams of "I would do anything for you". It shows he can still do the rasp and picks and chooses where to do but he can't do it consistently over a 2 hour concert as it wears out his voice now. Even with training I don't think he could consistently belt a 2 hour concert or maybe he has voice damage.

  3. "...I have reached a point in my life where I feel its time to dedicate myself to my band Sixx:A.M., my adoring wife and family, and to the many new adventures that the future holds for me. I have always been driven by my passion for creating music and Sixx:A.M. has always been a place where I can express myself honestly and share that passion with my two brothers and bandmates, Nikki Sixx and James Michael..."

It seems clear that for the creative spirits in GNR, depending on Axl for releases and not being able to function as a band has got to a point where they feel completely shackled and unable to do what they want to do: make music and release it.

It's sad. So much music that has already been recorded and that will never be released for whatever reason (not being up to Axl's standards? The label not willing to release it? Axl not giving a fuck? A reunion on the works?)... Bumblefoot wanted to make music, so he left (or so it seems). Ashba... same thing. Finck also left cause there was nothing happening. So we have Fortus who will stay as long as the money keeps coming and Dizzy who seems to be loyal to Axl because if it wasn't for him, he would have never made it anywhere.

I stopped expecting anything from GN'R a while ago, but it's still painful and sad to see the whole thing slowly falling apart.

At this point I think the best that could happen is break up the band once and for all. I would still like to hear new music from Axl (maybe as a new band, or as a solo artist), but I don't expect anything.

Why does Axl keep hiring guitar players who love creating new music.........if he has no interest in creating and sharing new music with his millions of fans?

I think he does have the interest... he just keeps undermining himself.

This. Axl has major issues and he's never dealt with them it appears. I truly believe if you asked him he would love to release new music but again so many mental issues/lack of confidence. It is surprising on one level coz I thought Dj's energy and enthuasism would rub off on Axl but again that shows you how cut off he is from positive energy. It's very sad as he is one the greatest frontman/songwriters of all time.

  7. Hey guys, I have been out of the loop for awhile and I have a question.

What is with the DJ Ashba hate? I had never heard of him until he joined GNR and I dont know anything about him.

But I keep reading tons of negative comments on him. What exactly is it that gets the fans riled up?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I haven't been following recently.

Also, as far as this Dio award goes; I do think Axl will show for sure. I just find it hard to believe that Axl will no show an award for him personally that bears Dio's name. Although I could be wrong. I do remember reading on a Dio forum that Axl showed up at Dio's funeral. Is that true? I do find that hard to believe as I didn't know of anytime Dio and Axl had crossed paths. Can anyone confirm or shine light on that for me as well?

I don't think he will put on a show if isn't "feeling" it. I expect a back out the night before or something like that.

At the best, Axl performs well and makes amends with Slash.

At the worst, Axl sees Slash and attacks him. Wouldn't that be a crazy headline? Axl punches Slash after receiving Ronnie James Dio award.

I'd be really disappointed in Axl if he didn't show up. I mean they are saying you Axl Rose by yourself deserve an award for your life's work. Whoever runs the Revolver awards are obviously huge fans of his so he's going to have a good time if he goes and he shouldn't shy away from it coz it'll be a positive experience for him. It's a more heartfelt recognition whereas the RRhof was more a ploy to get the Orig gnr back together. I mean when has Axl ever got recognition from his peers? He's criminally overlooked and I wonder why they decided now to honour him now? It's great he's finally getting that recognition he so deserves.

  8. Im hoping Paul shows up. I also hope he only plays CD songs as they are GNR's greatest material.

It would be very nice to see Paul appear at the residency. Although he is belittled by certain posters, the songs posted here a few months ago are way better than anything Izzy Stradlin has done post-GNR.

    Uhhhhhhh...

Sweet Caress is a song that Axl would sound great on. Wish Izzy was still in the band.

  9. It's not a case of "vocal cord damage" vs. "purposefully pissing fans off", though. I do think there is some damage, but I think there's also less drive; not to say he wants to give a shit performance, but he's not willing or doesn't feel the fire in him to push himself as hard as he used to. He alludes to that somewhat in the Oct 2012 USA Today interview:

'In GNR's early years, Rose worked out the "angst, frustration and rebellion" of his painful upbringing on stage and off.

"I was expressing my emotions and took that as far as you can and still be alive," he says. "I could beat my mike stand into the stage but I was still in pain. Maybe fans liked it, but sometimes people forget you're a person and they're more into the entertainment value. It's taken a long time to turn that around and give a strong show without it being a kamikaze show.

"There was a much more self-destructive nature in Appetite. It was a going-for-it-at-all-cost thing that worked then. I don't know if that's the smartest thing for me now."'

Should Axl be killing himself on stage each night just for our pleasure? No, I don't think so. But I also don't think he's going through standard performer preparation like rehearsals or fitness training. It's gone from one extreme to the other. 2010 I think he was giving it all he got, 2011-12 he mellowed out a bit but he did talk about exercising ("not as much as I should"). Now I get the feeling he's really just settling for bare minimum, which is a bit sad. He can get away with it South America because the crowds there are so excitable anyway, and maybe Vegas too since it's a stroll-in-after-blowing-everything-on-the-craps-table kind of gig. He couldn't get away with this in normal US/European shows, though, so maybe he'll turn it up a notch again in the future hopefully.

Wow t4p never noticed he said this before. It explains a lot

  10. Why is this a thread?

So you're complaining about a positive thread about Axl?! Why not go to one of the threads crapping on Axl and ask the OP why that is a thread? Wow things are weird here. There's so many negative threads on the board that I thought would be good to to being some positivity.
I'm bitching because there is already a whole thread devoted to this show, not because of the content. I'll bitch equally when the whiners repeat themselves.

There are random threads here. I don't care what someone creates a thread on. I got frustrated haha coz people are crapping on Axl's voice so much.

  11. His voice is never as bad as people say it is, with rare exception

Yeh and It's obvious he's conserving his higher register rasp type singing coz at his age he can't sustain it for long anymore. His baritone register is perfectly intact.

yeah at his age its imposible considering 2010 never happened and he started with this in 2011

It's obvious he overdid the rasp on 2010 tour as when he came back the following year he sings his voice had lost some of that grit. Since Rio 2011 he hasn't been able to sustain it. I don't care though coz his baritone register is so rich and beautiful that it makes up for it. He just needs more acoustic songs to show off that part of his voice more now.

So youre saying that his current voice is richer and he must play acoustic songs? his voice is just in a bad condition! and of course he sounds good in patience, that song is just like "talking" to him

Well if he is singing that mickey mouse falsetto style and sounding bad in that high range then it's better for him to switch to the stronger part of his voice more often which is his lower range. If his voice was in bad condition he would sound terrible in Patience. He shouldn't sing only acoustic songs now but he def should add in at least 3 more to the show, and even do some slow tempo covers if he has to. It would be a nice variation. He sounds good in Patience because of his phrasing and quality of voice. Some people get too hung up on wanting Axl to just be this loud raspy rock singer but if you truly listen he's not just "talking" as you say but he sings it it with great lyrical phrasing and musicality.

  13. How can anyone complain about Axl's vocal last night! He sounds so great and strong on Patience last night in SP. Proves he hasn't lost his voice one bit he's just conserving it at times. At the end even adds the rasp that all of you so obsess about constantly! I'm now convinced if he sings Patience at Golden Goda he's blow everyone away. It's the song that best suits his voice now.
