  1. I remember seeing that sometime around '91 Guns made the press sign something that gave GNR the right to review any interview theat was conducted with the band before it was printed due to a fear of being misquoted.

I've always found it interesting that the bad press campaign seemed to swing into full gear even more so after that contact was given out to the press. If you're from a magazine and want to write about Guns because you know they'll sell units you will probably choose to write the negative slanted article that doesn't involve direct interaction with the band so they don't have to get approval over the final edit.

    Daddy, don't
    I swear I won't
I'll be good from now on
    And I'm awful sorry

    Daddy, don't
    The hell I won't
    I won't be good anymore
    And you'll all be sorry

Can anybody tell me why the pain, it just won't stop?
Can anybody help me? This pain, it just won't stop

    My only regret
Is that I never took the time to forget
    All those unspoken feelings
    That were never spent
On those who understand that love deserves respect
    And not your sordid meaning

    Daddy, don't

That's cool. I don't remember hearing that. Was that said at the same time that Axl first showed the picture from the stage?

  5. I don't mind the new version. I'm happy to have the demo as well and prefer the drums and the opening on the demo but Im a fan either way. I always thought the school bell was a nod to Alice's "Schools Out".

The only thing perplexing about the song to me is that I've never actually heard the term or phrase "Hard School" before. Hardcore, old school,  sure,  but never together.

So fucking cool! Really amazing to get to see the work that's involved, and to get to hear what Axl heard before he came up with the vocal melody over the music.

That does give a whole new appreciation for the work. Now seeing Slash do the solo live twice, do you find it weird that he doesn't preform it closer to how the recording is? At least the recording we have lol.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

It does seem odd. Maybe it was a passing idea Axl had then. Interestingly though, earlier around that time he had also called Izzy asking for the 1995 demos (and kept Down By The Ocean and likely other Izzy songs) as well as for Izzy to play at Rock in Rio 3.

It was probably the Bob Ezrin effect.

Was this note about calling Izzy from the Canter chats too?

Marc Canter said that Axl liked some of VR but had some "constructive criticism" about it, e.g. that it could be better here and there.

It seems that he probably felt that at least Fall To Pieces should have been GN'R material, as he mentioned it specifically in the chats. And according to Marc, Fall To Pieces was one of the three Slash songs that Axl was thinking about including on CD in 2001 with Slash playing on them, provided that Slash would apologize.

Wow thats a lot of info there. I need to re-read those Canter chats!

  9. I may be way off here, but during the Axl chats, when one of the users asked him for his thoughts on Contraband, he made a point to say that it was a good question, but it was going to take longer than he had the time for to give a detailed answer.  And I always thought that maybe Axl felt there were some of those songs on that album that should have rightfully been Guns material? Especially when you factor in that Izzy worked with the guys involved in VR at the beginning.  I wonder if there were riffs and ideas that made it onto that album, that were born in some of the last official 90's GNR sessions.

Just seemed to me that an answer of "creatively uninspired" or "not really what Im into at the moment" would have been easy enough. By not saying something like that, you can kind of read between the lines and see that Axl did dig some of the stuff. Evidenced later on by his willingess to sing "Slither".

No, there's no reason to believe it's real. For one, it doesn't make sense that stuff like that would be on Beta's email, so I'm inclined to think that it's fabricated.

I guess the part that makes it so interesting is how specifc it is in refrencing Duff's album. But of course you WOULD add those types of details to make someone believe.

There's nothing more in it than what ShadowOfTheWave posted.

Is there any reason to believe that it's actually true and exists, and not just GNR fan-fiction?

Even though I am so interested in it I would read it even if it was fan-fic lol.

This is ok with me. I mean, the arrangement and layers do make a huge difference, and maybe the song structure was thought to be simple because of those other elements to be begin with.

I mean, this is an extreme exemple, but look what Hans Zimmer did with Interstellar's soundtrack.

Someone here once posted the demo of "Eye On You" set to the Interstellar trailer and it was pretty epic. Anyone still have that? I searched to no avail.

Aside from the singles they've released in the NITL era, we can assume these would've been on CD2:

    Atlas

    Going Down

    Tonto

    Cuban Skies

    Nothing

    Monstrocity

    Thyme

    OMG

There's also titles like State Of Grace, Berlin, Down By The Ocean, Seven, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting...

What are the "L" and "V" next to the titles? Implying thay Lyrics and Vocals are still needed?

Beggars and hangers was defiantely one. It was soundchecked by GNR in 93

Wow! I had no clue about this. Thanks for that.

Back And Forth Again is confirmed to be one of them since there even exists an actual recording of it that we heard a snippet of with Axl whistling over it on the Making Videos DVD.

The rest I believe has always only been speculation. As far as I know there are also some unreleased outtakes from the 5 O clock sessions that never came out, so it could have been some of those also.

I don't think I ever heard that. That's really interesting. Definitely one of my favorite Slash solos in that song.

  15. This may have been discussed before, but do we have any clues on what the 3-4 songs off the first Snakepit album were that Axl wanted to work on?

Also, there's that Axl quote where he mentions that he was told he wasn't allowed to change anything in regards to lyrics and melodies. Does that mean Slash had written the lyrics and presented them to Axl as they currently appear on the finished album? That seems unlikely. Surely the tracks weren't sung by Eric Dover and then presented to Axl for possible contention for the next GNR album.

Any ideas on these two questions?

My vote on the possible songs would be for "Beggars and Hangers On" , "Back and Forth Again", and "Lower". All 3 are really excellent as is, and I would have killed to hear a '95 version of Guns rip through those tracks.

  16. The part that I don't really understand is how Bucket wouldn't have any portion of royalties on TWAT. I mean I get that Axl may have written the basic structure of the song, but wouldn't the solo be worth something? I'm not sure how something like that get's factored in. And you would think if it's really up to Axl's discretion, then surely that solo above almost any other one would have scored Bucket some points?!?

I say this with what Ringo calls "peace and love" - it is Slash for God sakes, there is no way they would release a new single in 2023, with Slash in the band for 7 years, with a song where the lead is from a dude who has been out of the band for 19 years

The outro solo on TG is nothing really crucial to the melody, unlike the main solos to November Rain for example, its just Slash doing his thing and going crazy.  And the studio version was probably him just laying down various takes of him going crazy on the solo and them picking the coolest sounding take anyway - it wasn't a solo Slash wrote down on paper and thought out ahead of time

I dont think it makes sense either to release something with Bucket. I think it's possible though that what we heard is an older version that was leaked by someone who figured that the value of the track they had would plummet once Guns released the finalized track officially. I don't think that's totally out of the realm of possibility. For the record, I love Slash and couldn't be happier to have him back. Just throwing out possibilities.
