  1. Steven Adler was kicked out his house as a teen lived on the streets, had sex with men and was eventually raped buy homosexuals when he was 14. (source: Adlers book)

    in that order?

Please provide better context if you can.

edit - because it seems confusing that he would "have sex with men" before he was 14 as your sentence may seem to suggest.

  2. VICKY HAMILTON (Original GNR manager): Oh yeah. So one day, I walk into the living room, and Kim Fowley (Elecktra record company exec) is sitting on my couch, talking to Axl and Izzy. I don’t think Slash was there that day. Kim is telling them he wants to buy the publishing rights to “Anything Goes,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City,” which was a brand-new song at that point. Three songs that ended up on “Appetite,” and Kim Fowley offers $2,500 for the publishing. Axl wanted to do it! I was like, “Are you fucking kidding me? Those are great songs that are worth a lot more than that!” And Axl goes, “Yeah, but I can write a million songs like those.” I was like, “You can’t write a million songs like THOSE songs. Don’t do it.”

  3. This question ceased to be relevant once the Beatles released Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Everybody knows that Satanic Majesties was a poor attempt at psychedelic rock a la Sgt Peppers.

  4. The Dead Daisies legendary hunky Aussie singer Jon Stevens offers some insights into the band. Can't wait to see 'em on Sunday with a couple of mates at the Oxford Art Factory. Tickets still available. There should be heaps of wet pussy there, too. Am hoping to take some pictures with my Lumix LX5. Might even try to record the show with my iriver recorder.

  5. The Serpico one has got to be noted - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1x2YH0xubk

    Pathetic.

Oh really? If you can't laugh about it there's something wrong with you.

    Yes, oh really.

I could laugh, but not for the reasons you might be expecting me to laugh. When I was younger, around 12, I found his rants amazing. A rock star telling the system to fuck off, damn, so cool. Yep, but when I was 12.

Now when you think about it, it's depressing, sad and pathetic. I mean, an old guy who is totally out of breath, ranting about the press (yet again) and his old bandmates, trying to portray himself as the victim (that's the Serpico reference) to an audience that couldn't care less about what he has to say? Nah, that's not funny at all and I find nothing to laugh about.

That said, Serpico is a great movie and I loved Al Pacino's performance. I could give you that. :)

Just one question. So it's ok for you to be pathetic, but not for Axl?

  7. Writing and recording sessions in Sydney -

"First day in the recording studio – Sydney

We hit the recording studio in Sydney yesterday at the iconic Music Feeds studio, which has seen over 25 years of Australian music history revolve through its doors.

Some cool artists have recorded here including Midnight Oil, You Am I, Grinspoon, Ian Moss, The Jezabels, and many, many more.

We’re also working with the amazing Matt Lovell, Australian record producer and engineer for so many amazing bands including Midnight Oil, Eskimo Joe, Grinspoon, Silverchair,The Whitlams, INXS, Spiderbait, The Presets, One Dollar Short, The Sleepy Jackson, and Cold Chisel!

Matt has also received three ARIA Music Awards for ‘Engineer of the Year’, in 2005 for his work on The Mess Hall’s’ Notes from a Ceiling, in 2006 for Black Fingernails, Red Wine by Eskimo Joe, and in 2008 for his work on Shihad’s Beautiful Machine."

  8. I wish there a system where relevant tweets (eg. when GNR members, present and past, are involved in making music, touring, or anything otherwise of genuine broad interest) could be sorted out.

I mean, someone like Matt Sorum is an absolute tweet hog! the man tweets 43 times a day about every conceivable thing he can and fucking clogs up that tweets column here. Ok, he has a new album coming out, it's fair enough to tweet about that, but.... stopping the clog an removing his every irrelevant tweet might be a full time job...

Meanwhile current GNR members Dizzy and Fortus are doing major exciting things right now -- touring the world and recording new music with The Dead Daisies http://thedeaddaisies.com/2014/02/ , playing with major name players (like Darryl Jones from The Rolling Stones), etc... and none of their tweets appear here (in the tweets column) - https://twitter.com/TheDeadDaisies

  9. Concentrate on the first 7 albums - his initial 60's rise to fame (it's all essential except perhaps for his first self-titled album where he sounds a bit like he's trying to find his feet and which mainly consists of his take on traditional folk covers), peaking with Blonde On Blonde. Then, you'll want to hear more. The first three are his 'folk' period, then he starts to get progressively more poetic and wilder and more surreal. The folk establishment people in the NY folk scene couldn't really come to terms with it and it pissed a lot of them off, but they didn't get that he had a much grander vision. I'd read up on this initial 60's Dylan period so that you appreciate what a game changer he was in terms of songwriting, eg, he made it more direct and personal, greatly influenced The Beatles and so on (or, if you are so inclined, watch the Scorcese doc No Direction Home). So,

    'Bob Dylan'
    The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
    The Times They're A-Changin'
The Other Side Of Bob Dylan
    Bringing It All Back Home
    Highway 61 Revisited
    Blonde On Blonde

  10. Bought their album today... it's growing on me, solid stuff. Have also bought tickets for their show on the 23rd and been enjoying the whole trip of reading up on media reports and finding out all about their history. They have plans to record a second album soon with their stellar updated lineup (featuring Richard Fortus and Dizzy Reed, of course...), fresh from playing together on tour.

They have a very well-put-together website featuring links to several recent print, radio and tv interviews on the Australian tour they've just embarked on - http://thedeaddaisies.com/news/

ATTENTION MODS, would it be possible to add their twitter stuff on the twitter column here? - https://twitter.com/TheDeadDaisies

  11. Walking Papers were fun, saw them open for AiC, singer had mike on a long cable, jumped into the crowd and walked around with it while singing, was pretty surreal being a fair few feet away from the stage then having the singer standing right in front of me.

Well it was a total surprise to me that a support band (Walking Papers) was Duff's band when my friend bought the tickets, so a bonus to look forward to.

Btw (off topic) dude, sorry i was rude to you here a couple of months ago, i was hitting the liquor pretty hard and made an ass of myself.

  12. Alice In Chains, Down, Walking Papers - Feb 25

The Dead Daisies - Feb 23rd

So, cool! - seeing Duff (w WP), & Fortus & Dizzy.

I caught ask those bands (except down) at uproar last summer.all amazing live, have fun!

Thanks ZSR, I'm curious to see if TDD will play anything other than their own songs here eg. a Noiseworks (Jon Stevens' old band, which i was a fan of) song, eg - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri1MTXFu8No , that would be awesome.
