Can’t find the old thread but just wanted to talk about this song for a second.

Ive been listening to “Nothing” quite a bit recently. Something about it is so interesting to me. I try not to take it too seriously since it was probably only a proof of concept with scratch lines and lyrics, but there’s a part of me that see it’s as this almost heavenly, otherworldly song. Even the way the drums are, they feel like they have an echo or something I can’t describe. It’s so mysterious as well because this song was just never (afaik) talked about by the band, never even treated as anything seriously minus that .txt list mentioning it that I see discussed a lot.

I assume this song would be cut from any future releases. Doesn’t strike me as the type of song Slash and Duff would care for, and even if they did, we need to hear stuff like Atlas, SOG, Seven, etc first. Would be a fantastic album closer.

Does anyone else like this song or is it just universally considered a turd?

I made a thread about this a while ago. I also like it, despite it being a rough demo bit. I like how it's like reversely saying the same thing as George Harrison's (of da Beatles) Something. Good song could be made of it, I'm sure, but not with Slash's southern rock sound.

Having no recollection isn't a denial though that it never happened. A complete denial would be to say that he has never met this woman. No recollection bullshit. Having no recollection is an out for him, should it get proven (Rachtman or any of the other people) that he in fact met or spoke to the person. He can't even deny to ever have taken a photo with her.

Of course it could also be that he actually doesn't have recollection of that spesific night. Maybe Axl has had plenty of such nights and this doesn't stick out, no matter how much she stuck a finger up his ass.

I don't think this is much of a case. She gave three different versions, and on two of them, she said it was consensual. And she sued on the day of the deadline...

I don't think Axl was an angel back in the day, but I don't think this particular one is true

Good take. Not saying it's not possible but she does not have any credibility, because of the reasons above.

I think nobody would say it's a bad thing to have a change in perspective due to having daughters. The point is why are some people such incredible scumbags before? Why do they only change for the better once that such behaviour from another man could affect your own life?

I know a guy who used to say utterly disgusting things about women. Not aware of him abusing women, but with that attitude it wouldn't have surprised me. Now after having a daughter he became really protective and completely stopped talking the way he used to. Great, I guess. But it really shouldn't be so hard not to treat women like trash before having a daughter.

Errare humanum est. It's great if you have a healthy view on women, but not everyone is there right away. People grow up in different situations and it really doesn't help if you use drugs, women throw themselves at you without any regard to their own value. If rock stars have warped view on women, it really is no surprise. Being a celebrity alone brings along all kinds of leeches and hangers on, probably hard to treat people well when it's abuse and be abused situation. And again drugs ans alcohol rarely make people nice. I understand that in the days of rock'n roll decadence, it wasn't pretty and it's on you if you get dissapointed by them. I wouldn't cast judgement. It's sad, really. They are all victims of the culture they inhabited.

Is anybody else just so mad at this band right now? We had a new song, The General got played live, they had a kick ass world tour, Axl was no longer the butt of every single joke. And now look at this mess. I am seeing this article everywhere across all major news sites and it's just brought me down as a fan. I'm mad at their ignorant manager, at Axl acting like a fool years ago that's coming back to bite him in the ass now, at Duff and his faux feminism because apparently its only cool to care about women after you've had daughters and it affects you personally. Slash gets a pass for now. But damn, why is being a GNR fan so hard??

Ugh, just mad and disappointed. I want this to be played out fairly and for the truth to come out either way it will, but it has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Why mad at Axl for being young and reckless? He can't help it now, nor then. You give money, drugs and fame to a 20 year old, put him in a culture that glorifies it (whole LA and celeb scene) and expect good behaviour?

And the women who hang around with people like that expect nothing bad will happen? Being drunk and high on drugs doesn't make you a good decision maker, be it man or a woman. I think both parties ought to look themselves in the mirror.

They'll have to delay the general now. This will take up 3-5 years at least sorting this. Axl couldn't have asked for something this perfect to fall into his lap and give him more excuses to not release

Ahahh, don't man. I feel the same and it's just absurd if that happens. But that's what the goddamn cosmic joker seems to love when it comes to dealing with Guns fans. I'm laughing you omnipotent bastard, I'm laughing (and going insane). :D

This is the problem with GNR. It's been about 7 years since the reunion and really we have no idea of what they are like as a band off stage. It's all CIA level secretive.

They have been playing together so that should tell you something. And I'm sure media would love to have the big three on some talk show to talk about it, but since Axl really doesn't seem to care for that kind of publicity, it is what it is. And I think good for them. The music should be the forefront of what's going on in Guns. Should be...

It would depend entirely on the contract. If you're on a salary and have signed a contract stating the work you do is owned by the employer when you're under that contract, then it would be GNR that owned it.

If you're a freelancer who is around, under no contract, taking pictures for whatever reason then you own the copyright. The band giving 'permission' for those photos to be taken has no bearing on the copyright.

On paper this would be a pretty simple one to sort out really- if there is paperwork saying she was employed by the band, and that contract stated any work she undertook was theirs  then it is. If there is no contract stating that then it's hers.

This honestly sounds to me like the haphazard, bizarre and often unprofessional way that the GNR business operates has come back on them.

It's absolutely crazy that a band would take a photographer on tour and not have things like the copyright issues absolutely nailed down.....but I bet that's what happened.

Could be that or she and her legal team are looking for an easy money. They know there is no case, but they also know Team Brazil don't want no hassle, so there's a 50/50 shot of them going "Okay take some money and shut up! My boss is sleeping!".

Yeah he comes off particularly bad in all of the above.

I'm just judging all of this from the messages he wrote on here and discord. He came off as an arrogant asshole. To me it seemed like the reunion had gone to his head and all these allegations scream of what happens when you put someone in charge that isn't fit for the job.

I imagine GNR will be silent about all of this, but they should go the way of Mustaine and fire him immediately and get away from the mess. Obviously Axl is so intangled with TB that I don't know how he can fire Fernando and not risk losing his support network, but I just don't see how Fernando can stay employed even if only 50% of this is true.

We don't know him personally, but obviously we all got the same impression from him... He doesn't seem like a great guy, I wanted to give him and his family the benefit of the doubt but this kind of treatment of workers is unacceptable. Hard to imagine the band aren't aware of what was going on, unless they are completely separated and unreachable by anyone but management

This. That's why this could turn into a real shit show. If he does get fired, and he is high on ego and coke, it's gonna be lawsuit against Axl for sure. Isn't that what pretty much always happens in showbiz? Sued and countersued.

This is all very serious (and horrible).

However, all the comments that this maybe be the end of GN'R and that there won't be any more releases or touring etc., are too dramatic and overstated.

Maybe. But with how shady (at least to outside) it is to have this "family" around a multi million dollar rock star, it's ripe for a true crime story. With pressure mounting who knows what can happen. Maybe nothing.

  11. When or if we ever get the Chinese leftovers, would be interesting if Axl had a new, maybe more relaxed and upbeat song about renewed friendships. Since most of the ChiDem song have been about loss and wasted feelings and what have you, with the renunion it would be nice to hear his thoughts about getting something back in his life (i.e. Slash😄)and how that has felt.

"You were up in my ass,

    that's where you were.

    Now with the times pass

Our friendship like a warm fur.."

Feel free to use that Axl! 😆

That's because he's not singing to his abusive stepfather. He's singing to his neglectful mother. Everything in this bridge are things he's said about his mother a few times before. That she put him through hell by marrying a man that abused her children, and did nothing to defend them from him. That he wanted to help his mother because he saw her as a victim too, but he doesn't feel sympathy for her any longer. There were reports that his mother didn't want to leave the house out of embarrassment after Axl did the tell-all interview exposing her neglect. It's all right there in your face if you know what to look for.

This is an excerpt of his Rolling Stone Interview from the early 90s where he talks about his mom, and the lyrics of the bridge match it on every detail:

"And I basically put thoughts together about how sex is power and sex leaves you powerless, and picked up a lot of distorted views that I've had to live my life with. No matter what I was trying to be, there was this other thing telling me how it was, because of what I'd seen. And then she married someone else, and this person basically tried to control me and discipline me because of the problems he'd had in his childhood. And then my mom had a daughter. And my stepfather molested her for about twenty years. And beat us. He beat me consistently. I thought these things were normal. Basically, I've been rejected by my mother since I was a baby. She picked my stepfather over me and watched me get beaten by him. She stood back most of the time. Unless it got too bad, and then she'd come and hold me afterward. She wasn't there for me... I couldn't allow myself to be a real man, because men were evil, and I didn't want to be like my father. I've always felt this urge to go back and help my mom. I felt obligated to, but I don't anymore. She fed me and put clothes on my back, but she wasn't there for me..."

You make a good point, I totally forgot that. And he makes a good point, it happens in abuse cases that the love hungry mother ingores the child when something bad is going on. Sad stuff all around.

They bridge is definitely about child abuse. I'm not sure why everyone thinks every song is about slash.

The first half of the lyric is all about a child trying to impress an adult and doing what it thinks will make the parent happy without knowing it was abuse, it's a common thing in cases like this.

The second part is like his survivors mentality and acceptance he's waited too long for justice. 'no on left who wants the truth' 'the dirty secret' 'who thought i'd be around to shed a light on you' - I know Axl bears a grudge and is a bit pyscho, but if these lyrics are about his guitarist leaving his multi million pound success story of a band then it's genuinely insulting to humanity. but they're not, so dw!

The more I did, what I did, I did for you
There's no excuses for the hell on Earth you put me through
I never cared how much I cared, when I cared for you
To make you better there was nothin' that I wouldn't do
I doubt there's anybody left that wants to know the truth
The dirty secret that you hid away inside of you
Who ever thought I'd be around to shed a light on you
Well here's the story, baby, I got nothin' else to do

Looks more like something he would say about his ex. Why would he call his abusive parent "baby"? Obviously Axl feels he was the victim and Stephanie or whoever this is about had a dirty secret. Maybe that SHE was the psycho or whatever. It's all in the past. But clearly this song reads more like a breakup song.

I just can’t stand the industrial rock phase that Axl tried to turn the band into. This song is maybe worse than “Oh My God” and “The General”. Hopefully it will remain a demo and never be officially released.

I can understand that view and keeping things "simple" like AC/DC would have probably produced more released music.

However I have liked industrial rock bands like Filter and nu-metal like Evanescence, so I'm all for these styles. Although some of these demos are so pop, they would feel really out of place next Bad Obsession or You could be mine.

Regardless, Axl and the guys he worked with 20 years ago really had a good grasp on these different genres they were experiementing with. I dont think it can be said that OMG is a bad industrial rock song or that Axl writes bad pop songs. He can produce great music! It just might not always fit into that box of what Guns is suppose to sound like to some people.
