  1. It’s the dropped beats and drums speeding along the song. Very reminiscent of Matt Cameron. That’s why the song sounds a little like latter-era Soundgarden as well.
  2. Music in general on vinyl - particularly jazz or classic rock.
  3. This thread been a bit dead recently so giving it a nudge by announcing a finally managed to nab a man EU copy of Chinese Democracy, sealed as well. Sounds absolutely fantastic! Also made some other purchases recently including the Van Halen live RSD boxset.
  4. Likely nonsense but hopefully not. I just hope they work on some longer songs. Breakdown, Locomotive, Coma, Twat etc were always some of my favourites and an entire album full of 4 min songs doesn’t feel like Guns.
  5. I tend to agree. I remember when the leaks happened and people were adamant the vocals on parts of Madagascar and The Blues were simply guide vocals for the demo and would be redone for the final version… They definitely don’t stack up against the vocals on songs like Shacklers or If The World (love it or hate it as a song).
  6. I agree on Steven. Everything else is backwards… Matt is the metronome, Brain the best technical drummer, and Frank the step down in feel and technique.
  7. Yep 100%. I wonder if they could do “album” versions of the songs at some point though. With these being the single versions. Perhaps also feels very short - the intro could be expanded (singing starts very quickly), there is room for a second chorus before the guitar solo, I don’t understand why the dropped beat leading into the solo exists at all (reminds me of the approach in Atlas*), and the outro could be extended and more powerful. Don’t get me wrong I like the song as releases but there is more value there to be eeked out if it). *I used to be a proficient semi pro rock drummer years back and recorded loads of sessions / played for a few producers. I distinctly remember one producer telling me and the bassist we were “trying too hard” - we were in a poor band at the time and without realising had forced weird time signatures or dropped beats into the songs (or simply overplayed) just to keep it interesting for ourselves (forget the audience!). Atlas always reminds me of that feedback.
  8. Ordered!! Let’s hope it is the 8 minute epic I have dreamt it is and not a 3 minute throwaway b-side.
  9. Agree. Wonder if just silence would have been better there.
  10. The new version is essentially identical in structure with some bits re-recorded and some additional production tricks. They could have actually reworked it a bit. The solo seems to arrive very quickly in the song after only one chorus, so restructuring the song slightly, having a second chorus, then a build up into a more epic longer solo, then a longer outro… could have worked. But would make it a 5 min song not single friendly. Many of the CD era songs has bizarre structures (TWAT, Atlas, Catcher) and this fits in that group for me.
  11. So I’m well pleased I managed to catch that “live” (delayed) on the app. Won’t forget that. Mix sounds very good, more layers than the demo and Axl’s vocals aloud much better. Drums very good. As a minor criticism I think it sounds more like an album filler than a “single”, and it is quite short so lacks some of the epic length we’ve come to expect with Guns. But minor negatives. In general - a massive step ij right direction. Let’s hope that trajectory is retained.
  12. Yeah solo sounded good. Not very memorable. But good. Had quite an usual effect on (at least for Slash) I think?
  13. Sounds like Brain on drums I think. If they do ever release an album they would need to totally remix Hardskool for it to sit in the same sound space as Perhaps. Far superior mix.
  14. No that’s right. They played two RHCP songs in a row. I think there is a delay in the app. I’m listening from UK (5am here - lying awake as my wife just gave birth yesterday so been up all night feeding etc 🤘)
  15. Am I listening to the right radio? RHCP Give It Away playing now right?
  16. The GNR camp should only be mad at themselves or whichever incompetent suppliers they used. You can’t blame the fans for wanting to listen to music that becomes available (however which way) from a band they love.
  17. On balance, 160 pages discussing an average new song is better than 160 pages discussing no new song… 😀
  18. Drummer. But I’m a weird drummer (I think) - I don’t listen to other drummers but listen to other musicians like guitarists to then be inspired to drum alongside them. So I’ve always loved guitar and taken a big notice of guitarists as that’s what inspires me to play along - I seek out the emotion in music which often comes from the crescendos etc within guitar solos. I’m a big fan of dynamics in music - fast v slow, loud v quiet, hard v soft etc. The human touch is key. Everything at the same pace / volume is beyond boring.
  19. Robin (TIL and others), Bucket (TWAT and others), and Slash (NR and others) have all contributed excellent solos over the years. Personally I did prefer NuGuns reinterpretations of the original solos (Bucket’s Nightrain a primary example) versus Slash’s reinterpretations of NuGuns. I adore Slash but do subscribe to the view that his quality has waned recently, particularly in the studio. Ain’t Life Grand was amazing (Serial Killer is one of the best solos he’s ever recorded). But downhill thereafter. “Slash and Friends” was a good album but the solos were very sterile (a bit like the drums - it felt like what it was: a studio album with session musicians). Since then there have been some highs (WOF, the guest solo with Elan, a few others) but the average quality has dropped off noticeably (again, in my view). I have not yet heard the Perhaps new solo but have heard the original which I found good but nothing special.
  20. I’ll second the recommendation for Electric Tears. Phenomenal album. Very mellow. Excellent to listen to while at work trying to focus, or while doing yoga or just want to relax.
