  1. I just got back from a Nine Inch Nails gig and I gotta say, Robin was the coolest person on stage! He has a lot of charisma and got the loudest applause when his name was introduced. Some people even knew who he was before hand. It was pretty awesome!

Yup. I saw two shows last week and he got the largest applause at both shows. His stage presence is just enormous. Amazing performer.

I've proven it by pointing out that Robin can't cover Slash decently. I guess asking a supposedly professional guitarist to play something that was never too complicated to begin with is far too much to ask; and anyone with the audacity to point out that they don't have the talent to do it when they fail is automatically biased, right?

Right, but you simply pointing it out doesn't make your argument. Childish "lol sucks" posts don't really do much for one's stance. Nah, you proved my point via your posts.

I don't expect everyone to love everything Robin did. But the dumb "everything he did sucks and SPLOOSH IS AMAZING" arguments are a pretty clear indication of bias.

Where did I say that Slash was amazing? I just said that it takes somebody pretty useless to fuck up his guitar solos when they aren't that technically demanding in the first place. I expect better for Guns.

Forgive me for thinking that the self proclaimed #1 Slash fan thinks he's amazing then?

You do realize Robin played the solos different intentionally. It's not "fucking them up" and has nothing to do with technicality. You totally missed the point if all you got from it was "it doesn't sound like I remember back when I was smoking weed with my mullet". FFS...

Of course I'm the #1 Slash fan. It says so as my member title, doesn't it?

He changed it due to lack of talent just like his emo replacement. Unless of course, you're truly foolish enough to believe that making things sound like shit was his way of "improving" them. If that's the case, carry on blissful feller, don't let me ruin it for you.

That simply isn't true, and you are in the minority in thinking that. I think most people fully realize that Robin changed he solos due to the nature of his playing style, not for a lack of ability. It's just in the way he did so that has people split - which is totally fine as I've already stated multiple times now. What you're saying is pure BS and you know it. Infact, in a lot of cases what he was playing was "technically" more advanced than the original solo, or just completely different phrasing. It has nothing to do with lack of ability. You're right about Ashba as evidenced by the fact that he had to hand the second half of SCOM off to Ron because he couldn't even attempt it live, but with Robin you're either trolling, delusional or so biased you can't bring yourself to admit reality. There's no way around it.

Maybe it's you that is so biased it's blocked your capability to understand what is going on around you. If he had the ability to play them without sucking, he would have. I think anyone with the tiniest bit of common sense would agree with that.

I don't know how to have a reasonable debate with someone so obnoxiously repetitive and defiant. If the solos suck in your opinion - fair enough. That doesn't change the fact that he played them that way out of stylistic choice as opposed to technical incapability. If you really think that, you're out of your mind. His studio work and history in other bands would pretty much prove otherwise.

  4. Lol Trent Reznor's errand boy defender to the rescue

    Inb4 six page cryfest

So yeah, if anyone wants to have a real discussion/debate (or you know, just show some Finck appreciation since this is the Robin Finck Appreciation thread) feel free. Otherwise...leave?

I don't think you could argue that Robin isn't an ok guitarist, but anyone who thinks he improved on slash's solos is probably in a vanishingly small minority.

And no, I don't like everything slash does. But he played some great solos in guns - agree?

    I'm fully aware of that.

    Agreed.

  6. I greatly appreciate that he had the decency to leave the band and quit fucking up legendary music. I would appreciate him even more if he could somehow convince his replacement to do the same.

If by "fucking up" you mean improving, then yes.

It's called putting your own spin on things as opposed to just playing (in Ashba's case, attempting) note for note, boring renditions of 80s cockrock songs. Robin is the most artistic and unique player Guns N' Roses ever had.

His Patience and SCOM solos are particularly impressive imo.

 Sorry man, but that was laughably horrible.

Are you sure you're not just laughably biased?

Biased against or towards what? I'm pretty sure I'm more along the lines of brutally honest. :shrugs:

Against Robin (duh?), "NuGNR", Axl. Toward Slash, 80s cockrock, etc. Idk "mate", you tell me. Can't say I'm familiar enough with your posts to know, or care.

Against Robin for sucking surely. Same as most people with ears. I do have to admit, I am the number one Slash fan on the boards though, but that has nothing to do with seeing suck for being suck. :shrugs:

    Point proven. Thanks.

You had a point? Really, all that registered was "I get turned on by skullets. Who cares if he can't actually play guitar."

Yes, I had a point. It being - you're biased. Think you've done more than enough to prove it by now. But please keep up the hilarious jokes. They're killing me. ;)

  11. I've heard about that video before. But I've never seen it. Anyone know where to find it?

Band Jam + Dizzy Solo (Toronto 2010)

Does anyone know what song Dizzy is playing in his solo? I haven't heard that one before. Not saying it's a new song since Dizzy usually just plays instrumental covers. Just curious.

    Band Jam (2006)

This one is similar to the jam from 2007. The ending with Axl seems way too planned to be just a basic jam.

Edit: I don't hear ITW in that jam.
