It really makes zero fucking sense that The General was not given a digital release after the live debut. Such a wildly bizarre operation, this band.

Monsters is an absolute beast, though. I have a hard time understanding people who prefer Absurd.

Agreed. The chorus is strong, but like many of Brain’s remixes, it repeats/goes through the same basic musical elements throughout and isn’t much of a journey. Monsters, on the other hand, ticks all the boxes and gets richer with every listen.

As good as these are, the audio quality (likely a result of however these were ripped) is still quite poor. I expect the actual release to sound much more crisp. 

Getting to hear both The General & Soul Monster (Monsters) this week truly marks the end of an era for me as a GNR fan. Just nuts!

Monsters/Soul Monster lived up to the hype, no doubt about it. Best of the 5 reunion tracks by far.

Monsters gets better with every listen. Really Slash’s best work since Contraband, I think.

- Are these meant to be separate tracks? Or it it more like The General Part 1 & 2? 

- How on earth would 9 minutes fit on a 7" single? 

- Who leaked this? Why? And how did they get it? Is it an early delivery? 

 

Really glad to have these, they sound great, but it also deepens the mystery and frustration about what's else might be out there.

I wonder if Monsters was supposed to accompany another single, maybe Atlas? But even that is odd, unless it’s another vinyl only track.

Slash’s work in Monsters is his best playing in years. I think it’ll stand out even more in the polished official version.
