I can’t imagine The General will be released with zero fanfare. It might not get a video rollout like Perhaps, but I imagine it will at least have its own single art and YouTube treatment similar to Hard Skool.

I wouldn’t be surprised if The General drops sooner than later. Once it’s handed over for pressing the risk of it leaking goes up exponentially, so I have to think they want to be ahead of that.

Is that a countdown to the album or an announcement?

I can’t believe how well they’ve kept this track under wraps considering it has 20 years of hype behind it. Wonder if it starts popping up at soundchecks “soon”.

I’m guessing digital release for the last week of September or that first week of October. Would be cool if it has a video treatment coming too, but that’s probably a tall order.

I still can’t believe this is coming. Can’t remember if I’ve ever been this stoked to hear a track. End of an era, for sure!

If they’re somehow correct, then awesome. Looks like the success of Perhaps has shown there’s a decent demand for new GNR music and it will be nice to see them continue the momentum. That said, if it’s nonsense there’s still a lot to be excited about with The General coming soon.

We’ll find out soon, but I think it’s a fairly safe bet now that they were indeed rehearsing bits of The General in those clips.

This. And I’ll keep saying it, if this track really is the spiritual successor to Estranged, Slash *needs* to be on it, and obviously Axl Rose thankfully agrees.

Even with all the rumors this summer about it appearing on set lists, I still can’t believe it’s concretely real and coming. Just so excited to hear this track, and even more that Slash is on it. If it really is the lyrical “sequel” to Estranged it’s appropriate that Slash is prominently featured on the axe.

Maybe as a curiosity after I hear the official version down the line, but I really want what’s coming to be fresh to my ears.

Yep. People keep saying here it would be the first leak they actively avoid and I’m right there with them. I want it to be completely fresh and I’m just so so excited.

Some may disagree, but i personally dig the simplicity of this version. Feel like it would have fit perfectly on UYI. Nothing game changing, but it doesn’t need to be. Just glad GNR figured out how to put out another track. Now bring on The General!!

That’s what I’m hoping. If an EP is still planned then our chances of getting The General this year are obviously much higher.

The General appeared on the set list and was one of the songs on the production card from that video they posted and subsequently pulled. I think it’s safe to assume it was planned to be the next single, though whether that’s still reality is anyone’s guess. The odd rollout of Perhaps has me a little doubtful it’s still in the cards now, but I hope I’m wrong.
