  1. It's a tricky one, this, in my humble opinion. If the alleged actions took place, he grabbed her by the hair, dragged her across the floor until she bled, and basically overpowered her. That's not what you expect from a hook-up. If you're into the rougher side of things, you tend to discuss what you're going to do, make sure everyone's on board, and set limits and safe words before going ahead. That is especially important when you don't know the other, and there's no established trust, nor knowledge of what the other likes and can cope with. As such a discussion does not appear to have taken place and Axl allegedly just went ahead and did that without clear consent his actions would, arguably, class as assault. It doesn't matter that she wanted sex - it's the way that he went about it that makes it problematic. Unless one-night-stands in the 80s were very different from now, you wouldn't expect to be injured and overpowered by your date.

But I don't think the case will go anywhere. If it ever went to a jury, all the defense would need to do is read excerpts from her memoirs, and show clips from the documentary, and it's pretty certain that the case will go Axl's way. Which makes me wonder why she's going ahead with this - she must know that her previous accounts undermine her case. There may be evidence that we do not know about. But there's no point speculating about that.

  2. I've been a Club Member for a good while now. It is excellent value for money. It being a lifetime membership is a very good deal for members... it may, however, make raising funds a bit difficult over the longer term? Sooner or later everyone who's interested in becoming a member will have the membership and that ends that source of income.

I wonder, then, if creating an annual membership would be an option? I know that it would create yet another membership tier, and you're probably not keen on that, but I would be happy to pay 10 - 20 dollars per year to support the site and others might be as well. I know that I am not the most active poster. I tend to be more of a lurker. This site has offered me so much, though, over the years. The members here are extremely knowledgeable. And the times I watched shows with other members have been excellent fun. I am definitely fond of this site and would gladly support it on a more regular basis.

As it wouldn't be mandatory nobody would be excluded from the site. There'd be the free membership, the Club Member option and whatever this would be. Something to suit every pocket.

  3. I get that people are excited for something new(ish). And some people like it. That's cool. Different tastes and all that... but it's not for me.

I understand that I don't have to like every single GN'R song, and I don't, but I think that this one's the worst one out there for me yet because I simply don't feel anything when I listen to it other than, perhaps, a sense of mild disgust at the mental image of a pussy full of maggots. Anything else I feel is about the fact that this is the song they chose to put out there to catch the headlines. I mean, the sound is outdated and the lyrics are like something dreamed up by a bunch of young lads trying so, so hard to be edgy, and it's like the band doesn't know what they are now, like they cannot move on. I get that same sense when I see them drop f'n' anywhere and everywhere they can. They're middle-aged multi-millionaires. Singing about a pussy full of maggots just seems shallow, inauthentic and, frankly, sad... I hope they figure out a more mature sound. It could be awesome. They could be awesome.

And yeah, I know that plenty of people see this as a joke, as trolling, whatever, and if you're one of them you'll think I'm not 'getting it', but that won't stop me from cringing at this move.

My bloke went to the 2017 London one with me. He refuses to go to any more. Can't say i blame him

Mine went to the Manchester 2006 concert with me. There's no way I'd be able to drag him to London, Dublin or Glasgow.  I think there are a million-and-one things he'd rather do instead.

  5. I have thought for a good while that it might be an idea to have an annual membership fee rather than a lifetime one. The lifetime membership is a sweet idea, and cool, but an annual membership fee would help keep the forum going, and if those You Know Whos manage to damage the relationship between MYGNR and the host even further, it could help us migrate to another host.

Leave it optional, and leave it at not too high an amount as not everyone's got a lot of money, but I think most of us could afford a tenner a year, say? I'd definitely pay that to support the forum, considering everything it's given me over the years. I may not be the most prolific poster, but I read, and I join in when I feel that I have something to say. :)

As for the issue with the links... it's seriously petty that they're targeting us. I don't know the solution, but I do remember that when I joined the site it took a few days for my membership to be approved. I don't know what was going on at that time to have a vetting system, but if that is no longer in place, it might be an idea to return to it? I realise that it's a hassle for the Mods, but at least when troublemakers are spotted, they won't be able to create new accounts with the same ease as without a vetting system.

Of course, I don't know how the vetting was done back then. What with VPNs, it's probably difficult to identify who's who...

Exactly, paying $40 or $80 to only be abused and condescended to on a daily basis, is not conducive to a good environment. 🤬

Yep. It's why I didn't renew my membership there. The environment was toxic.

I wasn't subjected to as terrible a treatment as your friend, but did receive nasty comments of a sexist and xenophobic nature and nothing was done about it. I expect better. And what was done to your friend is inexcusable.

I wasn't aware that management needed a relationship with people other than GNR themselves.

what kind of relationship would that be?

free cookies and tea each sunday, and free demos for all, from your "best friends" at GNR?

when did "thank you" during concerts, stop being enough?

(by the way, thank you too Axl!)

oh, people want more? fuck that shit. not everyone shares that opinion.

How about professionalism? How about, when you sign up to a service related to the band, like their official fan forum, the staff working for the band actually does its job so that when members are subjected to racism, sexism, xenophobia etc, something's done to stop it? I've been a moderator on another forum for 15 years now, and that shit doesn't fly there. You look after your members. That goes when it's a free service, but it's especially expected when it's a paid service and if they don't want to do that, don't offer the service. It's that simple.
