The runtime of LZ 1-IV is roughly the same length as UYI 1&2
i was gonna say thisAlso Led Zeppelin’s output contained a lot of songs that they didn’t write as such, more just reworked old blues tracks.

I’d suspect he’d use the lower voice for that bit 🤣. It’s a pity we didn’t get a performance of it back in the day when he still had the chops to do it….I’d still like to hear it now though.
Edit - just saw they did it 3 times in 88 and once in 90?!
there’s a video of him singing it in a performance with Metallica guys and Bach I think, it’s not the best quality but you can hear the voice in good condition and he’s giving it full throttle dancing around with his top off etc lol

It’s not that hard to release an album. But when you’re a perfectionist who took a decade to produce your ‘magnum opus’ which then received a pretty critical reception on release, there probably isn’t much appetite (pardon the pun) to just knock out more albums for the sake of being prolific..

Hmm. So basically we can expect a couple of new songs sometime in the next whenever, and then maybe they’ll get round to writing a new album after 2023? It’s not that promising tbh

Probably the motivation to get coached.
But what exact things can the coach tell Axl about singing that he doesn’t already know?
-
What exactly is it that a vocal coach can tell someone who has been singing for 50 years?
Genuine question

For years I thought “to the bar” was part of the beginning of Bad Obsession

On a related note, I think Sorum says in his book that this song was supposed to have a full drum part, but when they came to record it he was too fucked up to play, so he ended up just tapping a tambourine or whatever along to the acoustic guitars.
To the bar

I think it sounds like the kind of thing Axl was trying to steer away from when he diversified with his big UYI songs and CD; i.e. generic, macho, America fuck yeah Rawk music that sounds dated

Doesn’t help London is brutally expensive, so driving yourself is pretty much out of the question (costs £100s to park, and theres no guarantee your car will even be safe).
never used to mind the megabus when I was 18, but I’m ageing like milk and don’t know how many years of it I have left in me haha. It was a struggle back in July!
You in Cardiff mate? I was born there and grew up in Cymru but in London now. - If you want cheap train travel use the TrainPal split ticketing site / app, booking in advance you can get vastly cheaper fares, it can be quite life changing to use and no more mega bus!- 1

It’s the verse vocals that sound a bit rubbish, too corny / clichéd and just not good singing
The chorus parts are ok, sound a bit like Scott Weiland, I think a lot of that is just the way it’s been produced though
-
I always found it a weird performance. They were at their peak of rawness in 1988 but the awards ceremony environment is sterile compared to their shows. The stage looks too big for them and Axl has to dance all over it to fill the space. It’s a good watch though.

He was surprisingly critical of Slash in his book. It interested me though, the GnR and VR bits anyway
-
No disrespect to Brian Johnson, what he does is an impressive vocal feat, but he does basically sound like Daffy Duck on steroids. Better than Mickey Mouse maybe, but not better than Axl on form, or Bon Scott.

I watched this recently and to my surprise it didn’t seem half as bad as I remembered it, I mean ok Jungle was weak as fuck but Crazy was pretty good by post 2010 standards, maybe it just seemed really bad at the time in context of 2006, but compared to later NITL efforts it’s actually alright
-
Garden of Eden is just filler, never knew why they thought it was single material. Especially as it was never a live song. The other two are ok, RNTDH is the better one I suppose.
-
Yea I think it’s the best representation of them, sloppiness and all, even if they weren’t happy with the show themselves.. also I do like the end of RQ where Axl disappears, it’s quite interesting to hear that part without the vocals

Visually, RQ from Ritz 88 is one of the best we have, but audio wise, less so.
Axl throws the mic at the monitor man and skips the last part of the song. Slash is quite out of tune on the final picking part. They were insistent this was due to bad sound engineering though, not being able to hear themselves and “hearing spaceships land n shit” as one of them said, something like that lol -
I was wondering recently if anyone we know was at Ritz 88. Seeing as it’s such an iconic show, it would be good to hear a witness recollection. There must be someone who was there that is still a fan and maybe on the forum?
-
I think that line about mother being a cunt in Bad Obsession was written by Izzy though? It’s him singing it on the demo.
-
Axl is the one who thinks and talks about current affairs the most
Izzy is a quiet, brooding but thoughtful type
Duff reads about history a lot and went to college after 90s GnR
Slash has his niche interests, dinosaurs and stuff
Steven is the least ego driven, just wants to have fun and friendly guy

I think the part acoustic version of KOHD from this show is their best live performance of it. Axl is on top form and Slash’s acoustic guitar is amazing, over the back line of Matts drums and Duff playing electric bass
-
I used to buy a lot of rare records of theirs in the 90s but a lot were unofficial bootlegs etc. The only official album I bought new from a shop was Spaghetti. I’ve seen them live 3 times but was always bought the tickets. I wouldn’t bother buying a physical album anymore. The amount of money I’ve actually given the band through purchasing official stuff must be pretty low, but I’m the biggest fan of theirs that I know IRL. You don’t have to buy physical albums to qualify as a fan.

I think Slash was more keen on Zakk Wylde, yet felt the overall sound was too much like 2 competing lead guitarists.
It’s funny though because Fortus seems like a player who could easily be a lead too.

Use Your Illusion--filler myth
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS

We have to ask ourselves how an album comprised solely of the apparent filler tracks would have done, to estimate how average they are.
