You’re the one GnR fan who took the advice they put on the warning stickers on UYI, lol- 2

Seems a bit of a douche move to suggest Slash can’t write songs, based on his solo stuff. Niven wouldn’t say that about Izzy, even though Izzy basically follows a format of creating lots of similar average sounding Dylan/Stones type songs as much as Slash follows a format of rewriting Aerosmith Rocks to infinity, if you want to look at it cynically.
-
It’s definitely Matt. He is half a beat late with the first hit. It really annoys me that all the videos blame Slash for being drunk.

Yes, according to Slash.
To be fair it was a wise suggestion.
I still want to know who came up with the final arrangement for the end section of Rocket Queen, since it was different before they recorded Appetite

Duff did Heroin occasionally according to his book, few smokes here n there, no raging habits like the other 3.
-
Regarding his input on Jungle. Was it him who suggested cutting the second “when you’re high” bridge from the song?

I also think he was about to say Duff but then remembered that Duff did do some drugs.
They all did drugs.. as I said before, in their world ‘drugs’ means full on heroin addiction, everything else was pretty much acceptable and par for the course

I don’t know if Axl was on Xanax here but quite possibly on other prescription medications as he said he had been given, or just stoned on weed as he was partial to that
-
In GnR world ‘sober’ meant not having a full blown heroin addiction, so yeah I expect he was thinking of Duff when he almost cited an exception to who was on drugs.

I used to half joke that he should just hand over vocals to a young female who could belt out AFD amazingly.
I mean Fergie for example would sound amazing on it. But I’ve never realistically thought he could be replaced by someone, of course not. What they have done recently is actually the best compromise though. Him dropping octave when he needs to, Melissa and that guest female vocalist providing the necessary support when needed. It’s what some of us have been saying they should do for years. We could’ve averted years of painful Mickey embarrassment if he’d made the change earlier.
-
Anyone notice in that new Gibson interview, Slash couldn’t bring himself to say Niven’s name in the two anecdotes he told featuring him, he just referred to Niven as the management at the time etc lol

I always thought YCBM was a bit of a weird fit for the film tbh. Sonically it fits, but the lyrics are irrelevant to the film’s theme. What has a bitter tirade from Axl about some relationship of his got to do with a story about a time travelling cyborg, lol
I liked that they did it though, obviously

As far as I can tell, Axl's always been open-minded and diverse when it comes to music. In general, I don't think he has changed as much as people think.
My thoughts exactly. it was Axl who was most keen to “bury Appetite” and diversify the band’s musical output for UYI. Slash would’ve been content to continue with re writing Aerosmith Rocks album songs. Izzy to do his style. Chinese sounded different only because it was the first time Axl had total control over the artistic output really. -
So Fine in the top 20 😄

2002 ?
That early? I think Blsckstar or Soulmonster said it was a couple of years before NITL but I can’t quite remember. I guess it depends on what qualifies as a rant, too..
-
God he was such a drama queen, lol.
You can just feel the rest of the band behind him thinking oh god, another Twain wreck.
Fun times though yeah
What year did the rants finally stop?

Assuming it’s true that he’s in as good physical shape as over ten years ago, I guess it has implications for the theory that all he needed to improve his voice was her back into good physical shape.. seems it would take a lot more..
-
Yeah of course it’s him - in fact that’s exactly how he used to sing it on the early live versions. Listen to the version at Music Machine 1986 (37.50 mins on the full video) and you will hear him singing the intro in this low register
-
Not really but for Axl and Slash they each represent commitments to each other’s past work.
Slither is wayyy better

Hmm right ok, just watched Reckless from Lisbon.
We can file this under “OMG wow they brought back Reckless and… uh… oh god he sounds.. oh christ why did they do that 😩”

Wait what, they’ve brought back Reckless Life?? Why didn’t anyone tell me!

Quite enjoyed that, don’t think the Carrie Underwood SCOM was as good as he thinks though.. aside from the whole “for a 60 year old” disclaimer

I don’t get the big dislike for Ferrer. I’ve got a feeling most of it is based on trivial things like thinking he hasn’t got the right look for GnR or something. Apart from the odd extra fill he does in some songs I don’t think the average fan could tell the difference between him and other drummers, on a straight drum track. If he was that bad the others wouldn’t work with him. He’s not my favourite obviously but I don’t mind him in the role. Evidently he’s regarded as more reliable than Adler and not confrontational like Sorum so as far as Axl’s concerned he gets the job.
