I mean, they "say" they don't want K.O.'s but how can they prevent one?  If Jones walks into a clean Tyson uppercut, he's going to get K.O.'d.

Well generally speaking I guess its an indicator to the fighters that they need to go easy, like Corey Sanders when be had an exhibition back in the day with Tyson?  Then again I guess when you charge PPV people should get a show but then if anyone cared about the people getting a show this maybe wouldn’t be happening.  They ain’t gonna be throwing full-bloodied shots I don’t think but what do I know, I didn’t set the thing up, maybe they are.

What's your prediction for tonight's fight, @Len Cnut?

Which one?  Tyson?  What to predict, 8 2 mins rounds, no KO’s allowed.  Its an exhibition, they move around a bit, sweat a little, thats it.  Nobodys looking to embarass anyone here.

It will be terrible. Put on your old clips of Tyson instead and save yourself the torture.

Dubois vs Joyce will be good though, you should have a butchers at this lad Dubois, he’s quite good:

I think it’s better,  rare that it happens. I don’t mind the 3rd either, but it’s not in the same league as the first 2.

Isn't Copolla re-doing the 3rd one?  I think they're all important insofar as the story isn't properly told until Michael dies an old man in that chair.

Iron Mike coming in about 4kg heavier than Roy..

Mate, at the risk of redundant repetition, the whole things a fuckin' joke, the undercards a joke, the hype is a joke and the biggest joke is that you have to pay 20 quid for it.  All these people like 'OMG MIKE LOOKS LIKE HIS PRIME AGAIN' off the back of a few well edited youtube clips.  Really?  His prime?  Is this what Mike looked like in his prime?

    tyson-jones-weigh-2.jpg

Maybe I was watching a different fuckin' prime to everyone else.  And all these people getting all hyped up about this shit, I don't care about your fuckin' stem cells and your fuckin' cryo-chambers and ice baths and new age strength and conditioning and diet bullshit, no man can beat the clock, no fuckin' man and thats gonna be apparent really quick after the third round when these boys look like they're walking in treacle.

Now don't get me wrong, I ain't against a man wanting to fight if he wants to fight, what annoys me is the machine behind it, what annoys me is treating a fuckin' exhibition fight like some kinda championship contest, its just the most phoney bullshit and its bad for boxing because at the end of it its what, a sparring session and some youtube f@ggots on a fuckin' undercard, its snake oil, you're gonna get to fuckin' 4:30am and, once we've stopped wanking off over clips of Tyson 86 and Roy 98 we're gonna be left thinking 'what the fuck did I just watch?'.

And the REALLY sad part is, after all this big speech, I'm probably still gonna end up paying for it   8 two minute rounds for a phoney belt thats ain't worth the leather and steel it cost to make that shit.  I would love nothing more than for Mike to turn up, look great tonight, then go on and fuckin' take on AJ and Fury and do em both but it ain't gonna fuckin' happen, there are no fairytales in life.  I remember at the end of Mikes last fight he said he didnt want to carry on because he didn't want to embarass the sport of boxing and disrespect it by like...abusing it.  Not saying thats necessarily what he/they are doing now but...

Oh, some of the old footage of Bestie is absolutely fantastic, he definitely was as good as anyone ability wise, a footballing genius apart from the sideshow of his off field activities. The fact he was from Northern Ireland basically hampered him from showcasing it at a World Cup.

I definitely think there's a bit of me looking at it through generational tinted glasses, though, I mean, a lot of the kids nowadays would have Messi and Ronaldo etc. above any of the greats from the past but to me, Ronaldo, for instance, for all his record breaking stats and whatever, just isn't very pleasing to watch. It's almost like he's too athletic, like he should be in track and field flying over hurdles or something? Maradona, Best, Cruyff, Zidane and the like just glided over the pitch, made it look effortless, they were like artists and it was beautiful to watch.

Football in general has lost a lot of the magic it once had for me but I feel that way about a lot of things nowadays, haha! Probably just the old fart in me coming to the fore.

It's also like trying to compare boxers from different eras, you can't really do it but it's fun to nonetheless.

You know what, right after I made my post i felt bad because i felt like I wrote of Besties footballing skills, I mentiones the drink I said ‘icon’ but I totally ignored the footballing prowess, of which he had a lot and he was just a midgety little Irishman with skinny legs, the man was a prodigy for sure, believe me, I’ve seen every goal, I just meant like, all told, if we were to be clinical, is he a Ronaldo (the slaphead)?  Or a Maradona?  Unfortunatly not.  He’s the worlds greatest couldabeen.  What he was though was the closest we ever came to great...and earlier than everyone else, the first superstar of football...and boldly individualistic at it...that alone makes him a legend.  Ans remember, this is coming from an Arsenal supporter

Lineker was at it also on twitter with hand of god references. A gulf separates Shilton and Lineker politically but they're bonded in never quite getting over that match.

Also, stuff about Maradona ''being troubled''. Maradona seemed to utterly enjoy (and rather manage) his decadent lifestyle, and loved being Maradona. He loved the coke, booze, food, women and generally being a mad little bastard post-football. (for us watching world cups at home, the corporate box with Diego and his entourage was frequently more entertaining viewing than the football game!). He continued with this lifestyle until the end. It wasn't as if he was Gazza, turning up at Tescos in the morning for a six pack  with his todger on show. Can nobody be a reprobate anymore without being deemed, ''troubled''?

Yes, Maradona probably shaved a few years off, yet Maradona packed more life in one minute than any of our sad lingering lives.

    PS

    Downloading that Maradona documentary.

I fuckin’ told you to watch that when it came out, you indolent bastard (fair play, you might’ve been doing umpteen more productive things).

I agree with you though, the man loved his life, like Ollie Reed before him, I hate these mournful obituaries, Stephen Fry actually laid into the news reports that claim Peter Cook lived some kind of miserable life just cuz he loved getting pissed, like its all about misery and despair and that.  Its bollocks, liking a drink don’t mean to say you’re some kinda crackhead round the back of The Coach and Horses dishing out blowies for a capful of Grouse a turn.

I don't think there are many others who were as universally loved as these people, transcending the races and religions.

Bestie deserves to be in there for his heroic boozing, skirt chasing, Miss World shagging, off the field exploits alone. It's an achievement he could ever be bothered to play a match!

Turned football into rock n' roll.

    He's in.

See therein lies exactly why I love Bestie (and btw I despite Man Utd and 99.9% of the players who played for em, it takea a monumental amount of exceptional circumstances for me to love a United player and I love Bestie) but football-wise?

I love him like I love Oliver Reed (who was a champion actor btw) or...I dunno Peter O Toole or Richard Harris but was Bestie a great, objectively speaking?  Difficult to argue.  As I say, I love Bestie for what he was, an icon of the 60s, a bit of a lad, a champion drinker and a champion shagger...but if the latter two made you a great footballer then I have uncles worthy of mention alongside Pele and MaradoNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNa

Now you has an great reason to say that " GOD died".....

Everytime I hear the word Donna, Doner or Dona, I think of slags   Thats my excuse.  I mean the word, however its spelt, has an association with slags.  a Doner is what you buy a slag on a night out.  Madonna was the king slag of the 80s, Ma-Donna or the mother of all slags.  And Donna in general is a slags name   (sorry to  anyone with a Donna in their life ).  You think Donna you think gaggin' for it.  Shit, Ritchie Valens even wrote a song about a girl called Donna, a slag who 'left him' (edited for the 50s, it has to be 'left him' cuz you couldn't say she was putting it about in them days!)

Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Thats it Shilts, forgive and forget   Listen, my allegiances lie with England and always will but, is it just me, did anyone else see this or did I hallucinate it but the goal right after the hand of God entailed ol' Diego pissing all over the entire England defence and putting it in the back of the net, was that not the case?  I think it was, wasn't it?  So who cares about the hand of fuckin' God?  'changed the complexion of the game' no doubt will be the reply.

I honestly dont get why people find her attractive.

She's quite stocky and she's got a jawline like David Coulthard.

She looks a bit like a drag queen to me actually.

She went to school like literally a 2 minute walk from where I'm sitting now.

My boy Joe Willock just stacked his motor.  Shocking behaviour, shocking way to carry on, setting an awful example for the youth.  That would be the youth into Grime and Drill, offing each other in record numbers all across London.  (I touched 120 on my way up north the other week in my brothers Jag, fuck me that car can fly :D)

The Pressure on the Boy after those Headlines at the time must have been Immense.

He was a fuckin' wanker then and he's a wanker now, overrated as fuck.  That entire generation in fact, Wilshere, Oxlade Chamberlain, Walcott, Wenger put so much faith in those cunts, they were given chances and respect and oppertunities that young footballers dream of and what did they do?  Shit fuck all is what.

The typo on this title made me first believe it was Madonna who had died and I was all, "who cares, but a bit young wasn't she?", and then I entered the thread to find out exactly how big of a Madonna fan Lenny was, really, and I thought this was probably a result of having a girlfriend and that it fit with Lenny's ongoing demasculiniation process, and saw it was really Maradona who had died and I was all, "fuck you, Lenny, for messing with me."

Great player. Almost up there with Messi and Ronaldo.

Christ Almighty, for all the shit spelling that goes on around here why am I getting it up the arse over an extra n?

There’s no way Bestie belongs there.  He’s a footballing icon but like, you judge these things on merit right, achievement and that?  Bestie don’t cut it.
