the Perhaps music video is really well made and editing is also great. really makes a more emotional connection with the tune. I feel like they went for it with the ballad and it reminds me of the PC music video so it's a cool thing Gn'R did imo also representing the curent lineup in a proper way.

Absolutely, now imagine they would do a "watch us inside the studio creating" video like Slash did for Killing Floor, which is a hell of a video,  instead of that horrendous The General video (or preferably for a different song anyway). Now that would be something!

I'm always eager to hear new Guns N' Roses songs, but after hearing how organic and lively Duff's new album and Slash's new blues stuff sound, I'm not that excited to hear those Nu-Guns -era songs anymore. They're cool compositions and nice things to have, but they do sound kind of stale in comparison to examples mentioned above.

Yeah, the contrast between how Slash and Duff operate and how Axl operates is almost mindboggling. You wouldn't believe they are in the same band if you didn't know it.

And yes, while it's cool getting anything new from Guns, I can't help but feel so so tired whenever I see all those ancient song names repeated and repeated in the same old same discussions of what might be released next and so on, while there are cool new projects by people from the band out there. I would most definitely say the same about Axl, if he'd choose to release a piano instrumental album or a soundtrack score or whatever. It's not some kind of Axl vs the others thing.

I liked the Barbie movie and I'm Just Ken is a fun song, it was cool to see Slash play it. Loved Ryan's suit too

    This.

Totally changed my view on this. Initially I was really upset that Slash was featured on this but then I saw the movie and got what it was about and now I love the way Slash makes it even cooler with his playing.

He really as an eye for staying in the focus of the people (although I agree, that song with Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas Superbowl was not co cool).

in a 2012 Gn'R gig I've attended, Bumble performed this song during his solo spot. just looking at his face while he played and sang it, I'd say my guess is that it is totally about his time in Gn'R, but as you said, could be about something else.

I had the same feeling back in 2012 when I saw them in Mönchengladbach, but I really liked that song. Same with Tommy's "Motivation", I always like that song and his Village Gorilla Head album.

  5. I still can't believe that they didn't use the momentum of the reunion announcement and the first tour cycle (or maybe even first two) to announce and release their final album of quality material, think of Black Sabbath 13 for example, and go out with a bang. Tour that album a few years and call it quits in style. Not all this rushed "single song with a lazy video here and there" approach, although I must say that they kicked it up a bit with Perhaps (really really cool video) and The General (embarrassing cheap looking kids video game style but I'm sure the tech behind it is mind-blowing :book:) .

Now we are what? In the 8th year of the reunion? Oh I'm sure they're really focussing on a new album just now.

Well, as Slash once said, the legacy is tarnished anyway, so who really cares at this point?

Here's a transcription of what Duff said in this interview:

    *

Brian Koppelman: When you write these songs, I mean when you get an idea or you get a groove, do you ever… how do you know “Okay man, I’m gonna save this bit for a band that I’m working with.” Because you’ve done so much band stuff, not just with Guns N’ Roses, but so much of that stuff.

    Duff: Yeah.

Brian Koppelman: How do you know, “Okay, this little melody and riff, an idea, feels right for me,” “I should play this one for Slash,” “I should not,” “I should play this one for…” How do you… Or is that not in you head at all and you address it like, “All right, I’m doing a Duff project now”. How does that work for you?

Duff: Man, okay, so if you could see my screen, if I could share you my screen on my iPad – which I’m talking to you on right now – I got a thing called Garage Band and I just hit the microphone and I have my acoustic guitar with me at all times on the road everywhere. It’s my punk guitar killer, it’s my everything. But I just love to play having the guitar in my lap. And I’ll write songs – there’s all this I call my crappy demos, they’re all on my iPad. I’ve shared my crappy demos only with a couple of people, Slash being one, because he knows what I’m trying to get. Or Mark, my producer. My crappy demos. So I will label them, you know, with a question mark: “GN’R?” or “Iggy?” Or, you know, “Ozzy?” But most of them for me… I wrote a song called “Amen”. It just all came to me when that - you know, everything that went down in Gaza and Israel, like that day. I was on the road watching TV and just heartbroken. You know, I’ve read so much history about that area dating back pre-Christ and all that. But like, they have just been under siege forever, you know, and this isn’t… I guess you don’t get surprised anymore. That’s happened a million times. But heartbroken you can be. You can be heartbroken.

Brian Koppelman: And in fact if you’re not heartbroken a little bit by this stuff - when you see kids in these situations… there’s something broken. But it’s so interesting like you just casually said that-

Duff: So I wrote a song called “Amen” and I sent it to Slash, and I said, “This is a Guns song. This is a Civil War, this is a new Civil War type of song.” Civil War is a Guns N’ Roses song-

Brian Koppelman: Of course, I know.

Duff: Those out there listening might not know.

    Brian Koppelman: Yeah.

Duff: And I’d say there’s a new civil war.

    Now that's something.
