Was anybody else surprised that Izzy hasn't said anything about the anniversary? For some reason I thought he would...

I think Izzy is done with Twitter.

No word from Steven either? Getting him very nominally involved with the tour was a brilliant move, since it probably got him under the legal thumb of GnR.

It will be interesting to see what happens when all of this stops at the end of the year. Will we ever see Duff and Izzy in the studio again? Will he ever take the stage with Slash again? Was it a business falling out or was it really personal? Ca they come back from it?

What a great idea your own celebration, you will have to post pictures, will you do Canters deli and some of the other old haunts?

Yes, I think your right, my Twitter posts really dropped off after the European leg was over , and all those people had attended their shows.

I didn't think about Canter's but that's a great idea, too. I will definitely take and post some pics.

I don't get it, what was this suppose to represent in the story of GnR?

I wondered the same thing. The Gardner Street storage space? Ugh.

This got a little sliver of rage out of me. Takes some balls to use images like this to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Appetite by selling shit while also being too damn cowardly to explain in an interview why two of these members aren't there.  Pathetic.

She intrigues me and I don't know why, but she does seem to have resurfaced quite a bit lately which Is probably promoting the latest book.

She is an odd mixture, I think in her writing she is  attempting to be sex positive, (I havn't read her entire book only bits posted on here and references posted on other sites) but all her exploits struck me as coming from a very needy place, less sexuall empowerment more please look at me, I need attention from men  to prove myself worth.

The latest book attempt seems more of the same but from a different angle.  Yes, she seems to be criticising the existence of the life style she took part in, but by throwing her fling under a bus, which not only attacks him but also mocks his partner. If you look through her social media it's very obviouse who she is alluding too, and it's not Axl.

Smart, educated, feminist? I think as you say this is how she wishes to be perceived, but she fails on the latter in my opinion and the others are open too debate.

Exactly. She's someone who thinks being sexually aggressive makes her a feminist.

Look, everyone should be open to enjoying themselves sexually. Casual sex is an okay thing. As long as everyone is of age and safe and consenting who gives a shit?

However, there is nothing free or empowering about the groupie lifestyle, which is what she is a part of. She is just a nameless, faceless inanimate object for these guys to stick their dicks in. Most of these guys don't know jack about how to treat a woman at least in part because during their formative years, they had women like this degrading themselves and each other for their attention. And that's the other thing. As a general rule, she doesn't speak well of other women in her book. She doesn't care that some of these guys are married. This isn't a picturesque Almost Famous groupie situation. The women don't support each other- they fight and claw and tear each other down because it's all about HE PICKED ME. The groupie fueled backstage environment also leads to sexual assault, underage girls being taken advantage of, and rampant addiction problems. Being a feminist involves supporting other women in some way, Shirazi only supports herself.

There is no way the guy in that story is Axl. Not after the Dizzy and Sebastian situations. If it had been before the first book she would have written about it and after nobody in the GnR camp would touch her with a ten foot pole.

I could see Slash being careless enough to get with her, but that description sounds nothing like him. She uses the term "rock god" pretty casually but really most of her conquests are not, um, upper tier rockstars. The thing about the famous girlfriends (plural) might be the biggest clue. Probably Tommy Lee or Richie Sambora or Dave Navarro.

  4. In some ways, I really enjoy Perla. I appreciate the Sass.

That being said, if you start messing with someone who is cheating on their spouse to be with you, you don't really get to be surprised when that person also treats you like a piece of shit.  Was Slash still with Perla when he got back together with Meegan?

  5. The more everyone denies it the more I think it's happening. They are smuggling izzy and Steven into the venue inside some storage cases, or under sheets.

I gotta believe that that if Steven wasn't involved he would be having a mental breakdown in the streets of NYC at this moment.

i have to go to work and spend the next 9 hours hiding in the bathroom, checking my phone for updates.

  6. I will believe he will be there until the last song is played tonight and then I will be fucking enraged  because he wasn't there or he was but only Kate Hudson and Jim Carey got a good view of him.  This is my relationship to this band now.

Well, at least it gets the fan base riled up and gives everyone something to talk about. I'll take a klonopin and maybe everything will be okay.

Found this on the litho- thread. If the second one is a official litho, would it be the kind that would go up against personal "right of publicity".  It is basically a photo of the classic lineup.

That's a Rolling Stone picture. Izzy signed away the rights to it before the photo shoot. That's standard practice. Rolling Stone can use it or sell it without Izzy's permission. That's actually not a photograph, either, it's an artists rendering of it.  Which is where it gets tricky.

.What I do wonder is, do you suppose that when they use the AFD cross which has the likeness of Izzy and Steven that they get some sort of payout? I know the 3 partnership owns a lot of the logos etc but would thier be clauses for  those images being reproduced in a new context?

Izzy and Steven won't ever get money from the skull images. The partnership owns the right to the artist's rendering now and even if they use the skulls in other contexts, legally there is not much Izzy and Steven can do about it.  The legalities of it are a little crazy, though.

If they used an old photograph of Izzy in the band from 1988 on a shirt they were selling he could sue them because it would go up against Izzy's personal "right of publicity." An artist's rendering is trickier. If they used a painted/drawn image of him that was a faithful representation that lacked any creative substance he could sue them for the same reason. However, the Appetite logo is not a faithful representation of Izzy, even if we all know it represents him. This is the legal wording:

“Another way of stating the inquiry is whether the celebrity likeness is one of the ‘raw materials’ from which an original work is synthesized, or whether the depiction or imitation of the celebrity is the very sum and substance of the work in question. … We ask, in other words, whether a product containing a celebrity's likeness is so transformed that it has become primarily the artist's own expression rather than the celebrity's likeness. And when we use the word ‘expression,’ we mean expression of something other than the likeness of the celebrity.”

You're missing the point...no one is paying $500 to sit a mile away.  Your over-exaggeration is assanine.  I agree I wouldn't pay for VIP and don't belong to the fan club as I think those are a rip-off too.  But I've paid $300 to be 10 yards or less from the stage (twice for NITL,  id probably pay up to $500 for a similar spot for AFD 5 given the caveats I've already noted.

Oh, I see now, thanks. I shouldn't have exaggerated.  I didn't realize the phrase "a mile away" would be taken literally or be quite so upsetting. I sincerely apologize.

Not a mile away though....that's ridiculous.

I don't think so. It's no more ridiculous than charging $2,500 for a "signature VIP experience" that doesn't get you shit.  Or $85 for a fan club that isn't worth anything. I agree that suckers pay those prices, but the band will charge whatever they think they can get away with.  And apparently, they can get away with a lot.

  11. We went to the (2nd) Chicago show last year only because we were in the city for the holiday weekend and ended up getting decent, cheap tickets from a friend. This summer we are going to the show in our hometown. But if we had paid full price last summer, we would have skipped it.  I enjoyed last year's show, I'll enjoy this year's, but I've contributed enough of my cold hard cash to their retirement funds.

It will never just be AFD5,  it would be AFD5 plus Melissa and Dizzy and Fortus and Frank.   That's unwieldy.

We've seen Steven, that was nice. If Izzy came out of the mist to play a few tunes that would be great. I'd watch the hell out of those videos. But I don't feel the need to spend $500 to stand a mile away from them in a stadium and watch Fortus creep on Izzy on a video screen.

I know right? I often wish that a super hot man will come to my place of business, verbally assault me, and then take his dick out and piss in front of the people I'm trying to take care of.  Only if he's hot, though.

Everyone got the sarcasm, right? Let me be clear. That woman had to deal with a drunken, belligerent asshole who berated her and exposed himself at her workplace . That's fucking gross. Saying you're jealous of her because you happen to find the dude attractive is also gross.

BTW, am I too weird for envy the stewardess that witnessed Izzy's "criminal behavior"?

  14. Both Susan and Perla have a Southern California inflection, but both use their big girl voices:

This is the only time I've heard Erin talk but it sets my teeth on edge:

    I've never heard Meegan speak.

Yeah I read some of that stuff last night on Lucy's post....it's all so ugly out there in IG world sometimes. But enough of that, how about a sweet, happy pic instead?!

I love Meegan's fashion sense. Very cool and "rocker chick" while still being classy and age appropriate.

  16. They're not young and hungry. They have nothing to prove. Labels and management won't be encouraging them to release new music, because there is no money in it and they can keep the major players isolated and  happy on tour in a way that they might not be able to in a studio situation, which could put the entire thing in jeopardy.

Young bands release their best music when they are young and their egos still allow the band members to challenge each other creatively. That's over with this band and it's been over for a long time. There are three very distinct levels within the band now Axl on top, Slash, Duff (and Izzy if he was involved) in the middle and everyone else on the bottom.
Can you imagine Richard challenging Slash? Or Duff challenging Axl?

Even if Izzy came back to write and record it would just make things more complicated.  I love this interview with Izzy talking about how he and Axl would work together:

There's zero percent chance of them working together like this anymore. Axl wouldn't take criticism from anybody at this point, and even Izzy, not without ego, would run away and work with his hired hands in a desert studio somewhere if he got agitated.

Slash, Duff and Izzy have creative outlets outside of GnR where they can be creative while being in charge. Richard and Frank are hired hands in a touring band.  Axl is Axl.

I'll probably just watch them from my house. I'm not sure why (maybe because the 4th fell on a Tuesday this year?) but the fireworks have been non stop since the 1st. I think I'm all firework'd out at this point. :P

I haven't slept in 5 nights because of all the damn firecrackers.  Damn, America your birthday party is so loud.

Did you guys see Perla's garage sale? That girl is nuts to post her home address on instagram like that.

I almost posted that on the WT. What was she thinking? Her kids live there! Perla being Perla.

I have noticed she has toned down her fashion game since the separation with Slash and really slimmed down, too. She looks better.
