Bumble butchered nearly everything he touched IMO.

Although to be fair with the May Catcher solo we heard, that was apparently all chopped up and edited, he didn't play it that way in the studio. That just goes to show something either sounds good or it doesn't, no matter how it comes to together. That's why I'm not so concerned with Slash and Duff added their stems to old Axl songs. If it sounds good, I'm all for it.

Yea and sometimes you can’t polish a turd. As with Hard Skool

Haha you’re full of it on this. Slash can put the extra work in but Axl gets slack…the dude can’t even be bothered to put the normal amount of work in to attend rehearsals. Tour after tour, year after year, the guy comparatively sounds like crap for paying customers at the beginning shows because he can’t be bothered to get in proper singing shape beforehand.

I don’t disagree but it’s definitely harder on the singer

Here’s the thing regardless of who you think is better suited for particular songs, did Richard even play more lead than DJ Ashba when he was in the band? I’m not sure but I doubt it. If you like CD songs played live then the current set up is what you’re gonna get because I don’t think anyone else is playing lead guitar as long as Slash is in the band.

Agreed and that’s how it should be just wish Slash would step it up and show a little more pride and effort

My twopence... not a huge Chinese Democracy fan. I think there are a few good tracks on it. I am however a supporter of the current lineup playing material from the album. That said I wasn't overly impressed with Slash on TWAT and agree with other posters that perhaps Richard should be given the lead parts on some/most/all songs from the album. The guitar playing on CD is very different stylistically from Slash and I'm not sure his blues based approach necessarily works with those songs. Just an opinion though! Will however call out Slash for contributions on Hard Skool, which to my ears, drastically improve that song tenfold.

The problem isn’t Slash being more blues based. He could’ve killed it on Buckets bluesy Sorry solo. Problem is the incoherent, uninspired, unprepared noodling

In years gone by, I thought that an impossibility and held, axl the perfectionist, in high quality control regard. But these two releases has popped that illusion. Now that's a shame given I love gnr so much.

Poor mixing aside, The more I listen to released HS the more one dimensional the song becomes. I don't really how else to say it, does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense to me. I stopped listening to Hard Skool. Between the subpar production, the drums and the lack of depth. I actually listened to Absurd a lot more

Battleground is a really nice solo!

For me, he hasn't written a 10/10 solo since VR and more specifically Fall to pieces, Dirty little thing, Slither but there have obviously been some other good ones on the solo albums and libertad.

I agree. Since Anastasia on the first SMKC record. As far as memorable solo and songs go. I know battleground and The One is pretty good but no one outside of us care. Slash solo had a bunch like by the sword. Snakepits had some of his best. And of course VR

Guns N Roses would sound better live today if you had Fitz and Frank playing with Slash/Duff/ Axl.

Musically (minus vocals) Slash's band plays circles around the current GNR when playing GNR songs.

Fitz frankly might sound more like a GNR drummer than anyone they've had since Steven when it comes to nailing the sound. It is night and day listening to him vs Frank. Throw in the lack of Dizzy/Melissa littering the songs with stuff that doesn't need to be there and it just takes away from the sound.

Yea that’s because drummers like Fitz, Brain & Adler add life to the songs. Better cymbals and more pop in their snare sound. It’s very easy to notice just by comparing their YouTube videos. You also notice the difference in the crowds energy when the drummer plays the songs right

In one photo he is wearing a mask, a hat and dark sun glasses. The others they have taken behind his back "quick before he notices!". LOL.

Some people especially celebrities like to hide behind hats and now Covid masks. It works. Not only hides your identity but very effectively hides wrinkles, double chins, yellow teeth and no makeup. I see a lot of women and men use these masks effectively

OMG from RIR had balls though. Last verse of HS last night was more like Mikey + scratch vocals....

Sounds like his IEM went out at the end. His vocals were trailing the music. Jeez what a wreck. Baltimore was much better. The Baltimore crowd was also better. Their energy hardly waned for 3.5hrs

Slash said it on some interview, that Axl showed up to soundcheck one day and he wanted to do Slither.

For real, the “dictator Axl” comments are as old as the “late Axl” comments.

And it’s a beautiful thing that Axl recognizes the greatness  of Scott Weiland. To honor him on the anniversary of his death was a really special moment
