Tonight is the leads meeting.  We have to go over the budget requests for next year.  $1000 is the least I'll take.  We're getting some money next year!  Up to $6000 if everybody gets to play.  The minimum I would like gets repairs done to the hoop house and compost bin.  Finishing off Masha orchard area would be nice.  It's been under renovation for a few years now.  Everything depends on next year's plant sale.  Looks like we are going to be doing that online

Could be the Seatlle rumour mill, thats true. Equally it could be from his months of phone calls with Axl abut joining up. For example, if David were concerned that Axl is just pulling in various people without an eye for chemistry, Axl could say 'Well, Guns was originally about a number of factors and our lineup wasnt only based on chemistry...' (In the interview David seems to be connecting this sentiment to Duff - buts its very fuzzy what hes trying to say on that specifically)

I note that Gilmore is quoted here talking about Slash and co being very focoused on "making it." And that follows him speaking about them brainstorming singers (presumably with 'making it' guiding that decision too?)

Do we know when the first member of Guns had their first contact with an A&R person? Seems likely and possible it could be before label interest in Guns N Roses AFD lineup?

David certainly got some facts wrong. But I dont think hes entirely wrong - I dont think hes lying per se.

Because I dont think it is a secret that the scene was 100% about getting signed, playing the game and swapping out members on a weekly basis to get signed. Slash auditions for Poison and states clearly when he "saw" CC he knew CC would get the gig because he had the "look."

I dont think that a label exec just randomly threw them together. I think Guns knew what was expected. They met how many A&R people - they'd be getting direction the entire time.

One thing that I've noticed since 2001 is that even his speaking voice has changed. It has a nasally tone to it now. Watching interviews from back in the day and his voice was noticeably deeper.

On Gilbys Pawnshop Guitars which was recorded after the Illusions Tour, Axl is using a higher, thinner and more nasaly sounding voice too. But maybe just because it suited that song?

Then again, to my ears, he uses the same voice on Come Together with Springstein. During the first verse he reaches for his chest voice and it just aint there. Could be the first Mickey on the word "Oh!" after his first verse even? Same year, 94 iirc. He does find a midrange chest voice for the chorus, but its thin.

So Id say you are onto something there.

It was a very incesteous scene. Slash tried out for Poison - and like in Davids account, Slash knew he lost the audition when he saw CCs "look." Slash knew David Bowie(!) Kiss asked about Slash joining Kiss before Guns and before Stanley wanted to produce them. Izzy threw rocks at Areosmith.

They were all players who were "word on the street" with the labels well before the label signed them.
