I mean, lists with Creed and so and so stuff hitting the #1 spot.

I know people like to shit on CD, but the 2008 song is a generic power ballad. I'd take even Kings of Leon instead of this one (which I really like, but I don't consider it to really be a rock song).

Yeah i know, some lame choices in the post 2000 era. But still, nice to see Hard Skool and Perhaps getting some recognition from a popular online rock/metal platform.

I don't know if they became untrendy. I got into them in late 1993 and they were still all over the place. I remember so many MTV specials around them on TV all the time, and this was MTV Europe, so everyone in Europe was watching the same MTV back then. For people who had jumped on the alt-rock band wagon they maybe weren't so cool anymore, but there was still so much hype around them.

I remember watching the specials on MTV as a young child. That and the Paris 92 show made me fall in love with the band and harder rock music in general. After 1994, it felt like they vanished from the planet. Being a teenager around the millenium, I started listening to Nu Metal and Alternative Rock. I never stopped listening to GNR, but even I didn't consider them being a 'cool' band at that time. I tried to introduce some of my friends to them and they all saw them as some dinosaur band from another time. Some of them never even heard of GNR despite being into the harder stuff from that era. You couldn't even find a shirt from them in the Large(EMP) catalogus. And they basically had shirts from every other big band from the late 60's till then.

My obsession in the band came back as soon as i got the internet around the RIR gig and realised Axl had rebuild GNR. I found a shirt somewhere at a festival market and was the guy with the uncool bandshirt for a while 😂. But a year later when Nu Metal became 'uncool'. A lot of GNR shirts started popping up in my highschool. Around 2003-2004 younger people were looking for something else. Velvet Revolver did help to spark the interest in GNR again.

who knows what Azoff said to Axl, what he promised him and how he said it. Having the reputation of a reunions whisperer doesn't mean it's an automatic deal breaker.

I'll even go as far as say that maybe Axl wanted to reunite eventually, but felt that Azoff didn't give enough attention to Chinese cause that was secondary to him and all he cared about was the main thing which was the reunion.

    Makes sense

I think Axl had way too much time to release more material for the reason for the lack of releases to be only other parties involved. Musicians release music cause they need to and nobody makes real money directly from album sales anymore except rare cases. Axl doesn't owe me anything, but he is certainly a hoarder imo and I think he could have found a way to release more music if that was his number 1 priority. Overthinking it seems to complicate shit for him, but we don't really know his side of it cause he chooses not to go into details about his process even when he gives interviews.

I know. He seems to be very insecure about releasing songs from that era.  And the record company not supporting him probably stopped his interest in releasing anything back in 2010-2014. Such a waste of time and talent. Really happy to finally hear these songs with Slash and Duff, but if he just decided to go solo back in the day and let those who created it shine with him. It all became to complicated under the GNR moniker.

Yet so many other bands release albums... including Duff and Slash

A reunion album with Duff and Slash however will spark more interest. And Duff and Slash will promote it if Axl doesn't feel like doing so.

I really hope they release it after all those years. If they did it when the reunion was still fresh it would have sparked a lot of interest. Right now, an album would be released purely to please the fans. Not a lot more... . The Perhaps video for example 'only' got 5 million views. Not bad, but nothing compared to bands their size. The interest for new GNR songs/albums from the general rock crowd is just not so big anymore.

I think it's like Axl said it was: CD ll, ie the second half of Chinese was completed since at least 2007 probably. An album's worth of material with complete vocals and Axl, for whatever reason, decided to sit on it.

There was probably a lot going on with the record company. There were rumours it got rejected. Axl made his intentions very clear over the years to release a follow up to Chinese and tour for a long time. I just think they stopped supporting them financially after the Chinese release debacle and Axl not promoting his own record etc. . It's no secret people were pushing heavily for a reunion behind the scenes. Another record wasn't financially interesting for anyone at that point.

The General would sound so much better if the vocals on the chorus weren’t distorted. I also hear a lot of those locker leaks in these songs. I hear quick song ooh ooh in Monsters a bit, or a style of it in the background and yes I can see how Soul Monster became this…kinda cool to see how different working songs can be mixed or used to make a finish product.

Yeah let's hope the chorus is not so distorted in the final version. Quick Song and Me & My Elvis have nothing to do with this. Completely different tracks.

https://platenzaak.nl/en/products/perhaps-store-exclusive-7inch-single this one is usually the first in Netherlands to be able to order from when it comes to international releases, I just checked it and it also says 31st of December... So probably it is delayed worldwide

Last week it said 31/12/1970 on that site 😂

Maybe they just didn't update the UK and USA pages and it's been postponed there as well. I'm pissed they didn't even send a mail that the release was postponed in Germany, so I canceled the order. Don't have a vinyl player anyway.

The German store says the estimated DELIVERY date is 11/3. Before the update it was the estimated SHIPPING date 10/27. So, nothing changed basically.

I remember back in the day around..... 201X.... it was a rumour that a "girl" will join GnR ... finally it was Melissa and a not guitar player.

    Who remenber that one?

Orianthi was rumoured to replace DJ when he quit. Right before the Slash returning rumours started. She was playing guitar for Alice Cooper back then.

That video would be interesting if it really exists, just to see if he named Perhaps as a song or if he skipped it, because he also thought it just meant "perhaps these songs below also considered". Pretty sure people didn't realize Perhaps was an actual song until 2019, so I guess he didn't mention it in that video.

The video existed. Perhaps was on his list but people only realised in 2019 it was a song indeed.

I am sure Arlett is telling the truth about Matt's behavior in Velvet Revolver, but that doesn't mean she is right in that being the reason Matt is not part of the reunion. I think, as you say, a lot has to do with Axl being loyal to guys being loyal to him, and Frank's been loyal.  I agree completely.

I don't think he was ever considered to be the drummer for the 2016 reunion. Matt's ego and lifestyle might have been considered as a big risk for the reunion to fall apart after a while. I always felt he was more responsable for the demise of Velvet Revolver than Scott. There was a lot of discipline in the early days of VR. They were all sober, helping Scott beat his heroine addiction, getting in great shape,... But it is well documented that he was the first to start doing drugs again as soon as succes came. They all fell off the wagon soon after. His ego seemed to be another big problem.

  13. Does anyone remember Brain's worst drum instructional movie? I just thought about it seeing this topic. A lot of Gnr references/not so subtle shots 😂. You can still see it on youtube. From 1h 42 he mocks Axl, Beta, Merck, Bumble and Pitman (giant hot dog with a uniform cap like he used to wear is playing keys 🤣).
