I was listening to Oh My God again and I couldn't help but think about the direction of the band Axl had in mind. I love all eras of GNR and I do really like oh my God. When I stop and think about the content we could have gotten from Axl in the late 90s still in his prime boggles my mind. I know the turn to more industrial rock sound isn't everyone's cup of tea but I am I fan of almost every genre of music. Not just hard rock. So the song is such an interesting look into where Axl was musically at the time. The dude never stopped evolving. Estranged sounds nothing like anything from appetite and I say thank God. Axl started to get into NIN and other electronic bands in the 90s and the band was changing with he times. I don't see this as a bad thing at all. I would love to look back and be like oh shit remember 80s GNR... Remember late 90s GNR when Axl was screaming on industrial tracks... Remember in 2006 when he caught his second wind and started blowing everyone's mind again? Bands having different eras is a good thing. I'm sad we might never hear what he was working on in all these different state of minds he was in. His creativity really is a blessing and curse.

It took me long time to appreciate this track but it’s one of favs. Lyrically it’s one of his finest. If Axl had worked on this song and not filtered his voice it could have have been one of the stronger tracks of CD. I can’t believe this song existed with Duff and Matt in the band.

Here's the index to the story so far: (1) 02. GLOBAL INDEX (a-4-d.com)

    Some background info:

    - To write the story so far I have read through more than 2000 articles comprising a database of more than 2,5 million words. That's a word file of 5302 pages written in font size 9.

    - Throughout this abundance of material, Slash has on 57 different occasions made the disclaimer "all things considered" to make sure we understand he takes a holistic approach when considering stuff. No one else has said that.

    - Steven has on different occasions graciously offered that Axl, Matt and Jizzy Pearl can kiss his ass. No one else has made that offer.

    - Tracii for some reason doesn't disappear from the story but keeps inserting himself in various ways, lastly by suggesting he could replace Buckethead.

    - Steven is entirely uninhibited and would in many ways been better off if the stroke had made him perfectly mute.

I have to ask, can you estimate the man hours you’ve placed into thing?

I would only be guessing, so unfortunately I cannot assist, however, I still cannot believe we have these. I have Atlas currently playing for the 87th time today. It's as life changing as it was that beautiful September morning of 2019.

It was awesome, and what a weird story. Too bad it wasn’t all the vocal performances.

It's sad to think that the Locker Leaks could end up being the last truly great thing to happen in the GNR universe.

    That went unnoticed too.

    Yeah, you're insane!

I can't see why anyone would want to come to a country that's in the mess we're in when they don't have to.

But then I'm poor, unemployed, and at the bottom of the barrel. Probably fine if you have second homes/don't have to worry about the economy being fucked, there being no work and people you know self-harming left right and centre!

Ah, ignore me. I just hate it here. I think we're an international embarasment and the only people who seem to think it's ok are the rich here. They just make sure they're isolated from it and don't give a fuck. The stats, facts and figures speak for themselves though when it comes to Covid and the economy.

Someone give me a damn job, a visa and a ticket out of this insular little country! Haha!

Are you voting for Byran Rose?

he may in fact workout regularly. but it doesn't matter who you are, you can't outrun a bad diet.

He works out in sunglasses. That’s so stupid. He can’t handle looking someone in the eyes

Some do some don't. Roth would have seemed irreplaceable in VH in '85, biggest front man in the world fronting the biggest band in the world at that time and they pulled it off. AC/DC did it, Iron Maiden did it, FNM did it, RATM became Audioslave, like you mention VR did pretty well, which was basically that outcome.

Cover band because technically it didn't own rights to the GNR name ? Sounded more like classic GNR to me than anything the band with the name GNR has done this century. A rose by any other name.....

Well in some ways I agree with you, GNR is AFD5 as far as I'm concerned, including Axl.

But I am saying in my view Axl was the weakest link and hence the most replaceable, and what I'm trying to understand is why people think losing him would be more damaging that losing any other band members ? As I've pointed out with a long list of incidents if he had the control back in the 80's like he does now GNR wouldn't have got off the ground anywhere near the way it did.

It's easy to say Axl is essential, I haven't heard anyone give any evidence based reasons why. In fact all the evidence I see is the opposite - VR is a blue print for what could have been - Axl has done next to nothing without the others around him even while owning the most important asset in the brand name.

Well, the band essentially did make contraband without Axl. However, those guys are best with top tier frontman.

You can see tears in his eyes when he's talking about how Axl was suicidal and how he had to talk him out of it. I don't think he's lying there. I think he's also overall sincere about how much he loved Axl.

Whether he's deliberately lying about some other things, I can't say. Maybe his memory fails him from time to time or maybe there's a different explanation. For example, maybe both Goldstein and Niven went looking for that bandana so neither is lying.

He fakes cries on the spot man. I heard him do it on a podcast and it felt phony as fuck.

In what world does John Sykes have to audition and DJ gets the job if he just turned up?? For the love of god.

Remember when Ashba was announced, now just go back in time and imagine Sykes was announced instead! Thst would have been incredible news!

Although, we'd never have all that sweet Ashba swag if Sykes got the gig.

Axl likely went with Ashba because of Sixx AM being successful.  Maybe he thought Ashba would somehow attract a younger audience to be interested in GNR too.  :P

John Sykes is great, but wouldn't really fit with Axl's vision of GNR being hip and cool without granddad's populating the stage.

    This exactly.

Maybe the time came where he actually needed the money. A person on the documentary that I watched last night, I cant recall who it was, said that Axl was nearly broke prior to the reunion. But who knows.

Broke by Axl standards. Not real broke. I still believe it was also motivated by the bands legacy. Axl didn’t want GNR to be remembered as a joke or a what if. And The bands legacy would have been solely on Axl.

    Nope.

What scares me though is this apparent, omnipresent evidence of how easily we let some external factors divide us in two extreme antipoles and completely deprive us of the capability of having civilized discussion, where one doesn’t just spew out their “truths” to the face of the other person but actually listens to him/her and weighs his/her opinion and point of view.

I mean, what happened to critical thinking? But if you want to think of yourself as being able to think critically, you can’t just stand with your back in front of that which you believe, guarding it against whatever comes at you in the front. You have to use the Occam’s razor and actually be objective – which is a goal that many fail to even realize, let alone accomplish.

Just because I have doubts about something, that doesn’t mean I automatically belong in some group, where I’m obviously attributed this group’s beliefs, even though I may have nothing to do with them.

If you believe the vaccine can help you in some way, go for it. But I’ll politely decline, thank you for your concern. I respect your stance and only request the same from you. Sure, that stuff may help. But the best help my body can give me is natural immunity.
There are dubious aspects about the whole thing (and I’m not even getting into what an opportunistic, shady political mess it is in our country /Cz/), one of which is that the vaccine just hasn’t had enough time for me to just accept it uncritically. I know we’re told more scientists have been on it than what a usual routine would be. But the fact remains that you can still catch it, you can still spread it, and I’m too young to inject myself with something the side effects of which may surface only in years. By all means am I giving credit to all the poor people in the health care. Kudos to them, heroes etc.

But here’s the thing: just because I don’t wish this thing for myself, that doesn’t mean I claim that Covid doesn’t exist or that it’s just a simple flu. It’s apparently not. Just because I’m capable of critical thinking, that doesn’t mean I’m a nutter believing the Earth is flat. Again, since when have we let others divide us like this?
Ever heard the phrase “divide and conquer”? Taking all information solely from the “conspiracy” webs is pretty much on the same wrong level as taking all information solely from the official mass media. Don’t forget that these are private companies, owned by oligarchs. No, they don’t want your good. Look at the GameSpot controversy and what ensued. Listen to Carlin's 2005 "they don't give a fuck about you" stand-up.

If you wanna only think in black-or-white extremes, staggering from one wall to another, putting stickers on people and stuffing everything into boxes, then it’s your business, but don’t laugh at people who are actually able to ponder and see. Otherwise you’re just laughing at yourself and your ignorance.
I understand that this simplifying shortcut may be tempting for many. The internet (one big garbage can, as a wise man once said) floods us with zillions of bits of “information” every day, and not everyone is able to handle such influx. People get headaches, they’re uncertain and shaky. The best thing in a situation like that is to unplug yourself from the nonsense and just believe your gut.
But above all, you always have to try as much as you can to be objective. It’s sad that you feel like an outcast when you do so, but if that’s the price you gotta pay, so be it.

So as for GN’R concert going, if getting injected with god knows what is the only way to see you guys, then sorry, off to Youtube I am.

Would have said it way better in my native language, but it would get way longer, and this is too much as it is.

Off the soapbox, thank you for your attention, and have a nice day.

“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.”
    John Lennon

This is an example of excellent discourse. Thank you for the time and thought .

Speaking as a lifelong fan, this organization has completely screwed Aaron Rodgers out of multiple SB appearances, if not victories. I remember seeing the point this morning that the Packers have never gone all in and tried to take a shot. This team has always planned for the future and done close to nothing for the present. We just need to load up and take a shot this off season. Get a new DC, maybe a new WR, definitely some better defensive personnel, and we're good to go.

They definitely fucked him in the draft. Jeez. Jordan Love? Really?

This is now 2 HOF QB's in a row that, instead of loading up for a win-now approach, they have chosen to forgo the final years of each guy and planned for the future. I remember back in 2007 where they refused to trade a 4th round pick (!) for Randy Moss when Favre was basically begging Thompson to do it. And then just last year they decide to draft a QB in the 1st round after going to the NFC title game. I always go back to what Denver and SF did in the 90's to win titles for John Elway and Steve Young. They literally cheated the cap and got every player they could to win-now, and they did.

Although to be fair to them, the cap is actually going down, so they and a lot of other teams are in cap hell right now. But still, drafting Love in the 1st round was unforgivable.

Is that true? They refused to trade a 4th round pick for Randy Moss?!!!

No, he is almost always flat live. He can still do that verse of around the world type vocal easy but his actual 'singing' parts can be dreadful. Not to poo poo RHCP for the tans here, it's just an honest review after seeing them over the years in person and tv.

Zero energy too. At least he is still recognisable vocally though, so he has that on Axl... although his vocals are a walk in the park to reproduce in comparison to Axl.

What do you mean by zero energy? His performance is highly energetic.

RHCP actually did a surprise show with Frusciante back in early 2020 (before covid engulfed the world) and Anthony was MUCH better than he had been in years at that gig. I think Frusciante coming back has motivated him to step up his game a bit.

Anthony has one of the most unique voices in music and unlike other frontmen his voice has held up remarkably. Frusciante is arguably a top 5 guitarist globally. And Anthony looks incredible for a guy almost 60.
