It's an assumption on my part really. I've listened to the vinyl and the digital version on Tidal. Vinyl doesn't have the same sound quality issues that the digital version does. No horrific clipping trying to kill my speakers. My current guess is that the version uploaded to streaming services is the same version that was initially pressed to vinyl, and then scrapped due to quality issues. Somebody forgot to upload the new quieter version to streaming services.

So to summarise how this release went: - 'The General' and 'Monsters' accidentally registered as one song - day of release, record delayed with no announcement until the very last second - wrong artwork file sent to vinyl manufacturers - wrong digital file uploaded to streaming services Have I missed anything? Strikes me that literally every step of getting this song out there has been fucked up.

I've now listened to both the Vinyl and the digital version on Tidal. The Vinyl sounds a LOT better. The clipping and popping that is all over the Tidal release is not on the Vinyl. At least, if it is, it is absolutely nowhere near as audible. I think there is a very real possibility that the track uploaded to digital providers is the one that initially got scrapped for the vinyl release due to distortion/sound quality issues.

Tour is (almost) over - where do we go now?

I don't know what the future may hold, but I do want to give Glastonbury a mention. I tuned in fearing the worst, but instead got probably the most enjoyable night of the reunion. After years of Axl kinda hiding behind the hats and the glasses (2010-2014), and appearing on autopilot from 2017/8 onwards it was amazing to see him so full of energy again. There he was, my childhood hero had returned. Out front, running about, giving his absolute all. I don't know what changed but on this tour Axl seemed to get his mojo back. That fire in his eyes that had been missing for years was back. Sure his voice isn't what it once was but I have to give him credit for the effort he has put in this tour -

I don't think the possibility of these being vinyl rips can be ruled out based on them being 44.1kHz. It's technically very possible. When a vinyl is ripped the output file format will be whatever the user chooses. There is nothing preventing a vinyl rip being saved as a 44bit/96kHz FLAC, in fact it's quite common. https://www.whathifi.com/advice/how-to-digitise-your-vinyl-collection

Chuck in Eye On You too. Strangely it kinda fits with SoG and The General & Monsters -

Personally, its State of Grace. There's something about that one that I really like, even in its rough scratch vocal state. I think en EP with The General and Monsters, State of Grace, and maybe Oh My God would be amazing. I'd also quite like to hear a bucket version of Silkworms, complete with the 'Bitch like you...' chorus. Absurd isn't bad, but I much preferred earlier live versions when it was still Silkworms. I know I'm in the minority on that one! -
Before the thread got taken down on Reddit, Fernando commented this "It was held back due to the very bad quality of the vinyl we first received and we finally got it to the right spot." If you look on his profile the comment is still there. I'm guessing what we are hearing is rips of these poor quality vinyls that have been rejected
