Make Your Own GNR EP
allwaystired replied to 2020_Intensions's topic in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Estranged Shacklers Revenge Shotgun Blues Out Ta Get Me That sort of covers a lot of bases, styles wise. -
Haha! Didn't get very well received the second one, but I think it's totally as good as the first. A lot of people would disagree with me though!
-
You really don't need to give VR a 'deep dive'- they only made two albums! I'd like to see them reunited with a different singer to hear what they'd sound like and what they could write. It would be different of course, but I think it could work. From what others have said on this thread though it seems unlikely, even though they did spend quite some time auditioning for a new singer to replace Scott, if memory serves.
-
I'd imagine SMKC will do another album regardless. I agree- it's decent rock n roll, a fun listen, and I hope they do more stuff.

The way I see it is that GNR don't 'owe' us anything. They don't want to make music - up to them. It's not like they're taking money from us and not delivering. We're not paying for albums they're not delivering. The other side is that it's very frustrating for people that have been fans for decades. It's made more frustrating by the carrot-dangling that's gone on for years of new material just being around the corner. That makes it feel very infuriating. If GNR said "no, we're done now, come and see us play if you want, it'll be the same music, but there's no new stuff planned, at least for the foreseeable future" I think the dynamic would change. I think most people would respect that honesty. On a personal level it's the chronic waste of time, talent and opportunity that annoys me. People would kill for the attention and fan base GNR have, let alone the talents of every single band member, and to just let that pass by year after year seems such a waste to me. I'm not going to ever defend that. Ultimately though..... it's boring to a lot of people. And GNR were never boring.

I wouldn't imagine 'pressure' is the term, but given their productivity and activities outside of the band, it must be clear they get restless- and surely they must have made rumblings about new music on several occasions and asked questions about it...otherwise even the little that has happened wouldn't have done. I can't see Axl being the driving force on them recording their additions, especially given he seemingly did nothing new himself to the tracks.
-
Well I think he's always wanted 'control' so it would make sense that he bought the masters- that's a move totally in keeping with what we know of Axl from the past. That he's in charge of everything. I can't fathom why someone who cared so much would let those production issues go through. It's so weird.
-
My best guess is these songs are getting released because of pressure from Slash and Duff, who are probably a bit embarrassed about the lack of music and sick of having people ask them about it in interviews. I'd wager musician friends of theirs in other bands ask a lot too. If Axl cared about these songs he wouldn't have allowed them to come out so badly mixed and produced. The impression that comes across is that he couldn't give a shit about how they sound.

Yeah, it's the modern world. I don't like it though, that everything has to be monetised and I'm a bit old school/old fashioned in terms of rock and roll being about the underdog, the poor kid and it not favouring the rich. I don't like the idea of some kid not even being able to meet someone in the street and get a signature. On that note....met Bruce Dickinson last week and he was super pleasant, chatty and down to earth.
-
Yeah I'd agree with that. I have no issue at all with the Chinese leftovers getting dusted down and released- but just do it. I don't see what possible advantage there is to sitting on them for months and months then releasing one song before killing the momentum again for another long period of time. If they came as an album, 10 or so songs, properly released and promoted, it would have far more impact.

Unreleased Steven Wilson Appetite Atmos Remix
allwaystired replied to ToonGuns's topic in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
You'd have thought the AFD mix would have been done at the time of the box set release though, for inclusion with that? My guess is it would have been intended to go on the Blu-Ray disc in that. -
Personally, I can't see it, looking at the band and the other acts on. I don't think people want/expect GNR really- they don't get it with SMKC especially (he does one GNR song) and this does seem to be going down a very different route. If people want GNR or SMKC, those things are out there touring frequently so I'd imagine he's going to see this as a chance to move away from all that stuff entirely. Will be interesting to see what he does, for sure though! I'm wondering if with the whole 'festival' thing Slash's set may be shorter than it would be regularly. Envious of people getting to go to this!

Unreleased Steven Wilson Appetite Atmos Remix

That's genuinely the first I've heard of this. So he did AFD and they decided to ditch it, then they got him back for UYI and did exactly the same? That's utterly bonkers. I read Wilson saying that he was baffled by them rejecting UYI but that they paid him and that's all he knew of the matter.
