I agree the autopilot mode must have had in impact, but the difference between 01 and 06 was so negligible there's no way this explanation (a few kilos here or there) could satisfy reason. It's still a mystery. Maybe he realized/admitted he's destroying his throat like this and it's not sustainable any longer...

He was thinner in 06, i can see the weight loss in 06 compared to the early 00s show especially RIR. But 06 he sounded good, he was confident of CD being released that year and was  sounding and looking like he had a point to prove.

We’ve been here before, but anyway: the age thing is obviously nonsense. Not that it doesn’t play any role whatsoever, but you don’t grow old within half a year. The way he sang in 2011 was similar to 2002 (not the same). So I have a question for all you ageists: how is it possible that he sang the way he did in 2001/02, and yet then he came back in 2006 (and 2010) where he sounded almost like the good ole raspy god from the 90s?
The same would apply to 2016 as compared with Up Close And Personal or whatever the shit before. This case would suggest the vocal coach’s work, which he stated himself. But that still doesn’t explain the 2010/2011 difference.
So I say, it was a vocal cords surgery. There used to be a post about it on some forum, but it disappeared quite quickly.
Also, there is an “Axl’s voice” thread, don’t remember the exact name.

Easy , in 06 he was  thinner and fitter looking than 01. In 2010  he was back in shape, but not 06 thin.  The weight really must effect his singing. I think 2012 is when he went into autopilot mode due the lawsuits impacting on him.

  3. GNR will tour oz later this year , as we have a good handle on the Covid situation. Will be interesting if the  band are required to take the jab before flying over. Or they do a 2 to 3 week quarantine. Which i doubt will be the bands approach.

Here in Australia to answer the OP, this period reminds me of 1990. In Australia there wasnt much information being fed to the music mags i used to collect. The band wernt playing live shows. The only information we were getting was from Geffen that the band were working on the followup to Appetite no release date was known. Even in early 91, there was no confirmed release dates. Geffen  were saying July for the release date, but that was just a half guess on their part. How GNR would release the Illusions, either 1 record or 2 was still undecided. It wasnt until we got to about August 91 the release dates and info on how the albums would be released would be known to the public. As a 15 year old in 1990, waiting on the illusion albums felt like an eternity.

This ''british'' mutated virus is becoming a big problem here yet there are still 16 flights from the UK arriving here every single day. I don't get it, just close the border already with no exceptions.

    I really dont understand this.

Bojo obviously thought he could try and have a dollar each way. Just madness, if he woukd lockdown borders then he can try and contajn community transmission.

Hes thinking more about the economy being the priority.

I heard about that- didn't it cause some public anger? Did they have to quarantine?

I look at Australia's handling of the pandemic with envy. They seem to have done it very well- the polar opposite of the truly dismal handling of it in the UK.

Yep the players arecquarenting at the moment.

There has been some players against quarenting and liking it to jail. Then there is novak djovorak with his list of demands that were wanted, which the authorities said no.

We have handled it well, Australia being an island country and closing our international borders when we did (except for supply chains) has been our advantage.

Coildnt beleive bojo didnt do any of the above.

Interesting to see how the reported news that Australia plans to keep it's borders closed for the rest of 2021, regardless of vaccine rollout, comes into play. Might put the dampeners on the GNR dates there.....

GNR will be the first major band to tour here should they tour here.

Im wondering if there will be any quarentine for the band on their arrival or whether they will be required to get the jab before flying over and prove they have had it, as a means to tour.

I did know about Marc Ford earlier, but not even I (as ahuge Gunner and TBC fan) knew this.

If I did, I would have asked Rich about it earlier, will do next time and will write here what he says.

As for Marc, yes, UYI band would have been an interesting fit for him, but Nu Guns had 0 to do with rock and him being rock or blues rock guitarist I just don't see how he would have fit in that band.

I dont  think TBC southern music........album would not have sounded good without Marcs contributions had he have joined guns.

I am disappointed with Duff and Slash too.. They definitely chose took money over integrity and most importantly the quality of the music.

i thought that duff and slash would have been able to take a paycut to have izzy on board, especially with the amount of money that the tour has generated.

It is even too late for that.. It would have been awesome in 2016 when everyone was excited and Axl wasn't as terrible..

Should have been done in 2017, as part of the AFD anniversary.

They could have done 2 shows, because thats all Axl would have wanted to do, to be "accomodating' to the fans. Most likely one in NYC andf the other in LA.

AFD back to front and maybe some of the stuff on Lies included.

  10. Any crimes that result in life being innocently taken for no conscuencious reason shoukd invole their life been taken . People who do this in my view cannot be mentally rehabilitated. So whats the answer?. Life in prison for say 50,60,70 years?. They cannot be rehabilitated  and i certainly would not want my taxes housing and feeding them for their remaining time on earth. My answer is, they should die. Slowly.

I think society is more heinous than what it was 50 years ago hence why i think peoples attitude to the death penalty are changing.

No new music has finally become an issue this many years later. Whatever chemistry remains within the big 3 it must be only be In performing live. We don’t know if Axl still wants to make music and develop the ideas to an actual release. If there isn’t going to be new music, and I mean, if Axl internally has accepted that reality, then there should be one final tour around the globe. Even with new music, Axl at 60 performing music live just isn’t an appealing idea.

If this is the case one final tour

No covers, including the fortus/shash/WYWH covers.

    No VR songs

No noodling just one song after another.

2 to 2.5 hour show. Axl wont last doing a 3 hour show anymore

Forget about YCBM and Coma Axl just cannot consustantly sing them.

Focus on the hits and deep cuts but the lower register songs.

Dude cant use the sick card for 90 percent of the bad performances from 2018 to 2020.

Every other singer works hard to stay fit and consistant

    Yep.

Jagger is almost 80 and can put on a good show, so axl has zero excuses to stay in shape and put on a good performance.

If he has given up, or not feeling inspired, thats their issue for chasing the money. The tour should never have gone past 2017 anf they should have had more of a game plan. If they had worked on a new album in early 18, then tour new album, they would have created more demand and have the setlist to only have the classics and new songs. No covers and no 3 hour shows. Considering axls voice i dont know why they kept doing this.

Did anyone seriously think the US shows would happen this year?

People have already seen the Axl/Slash stadium tour reunion show. Interest was already low before the pandemic, and every band is gonna be competing for the same ticket money once touring is back to normal. Since ticket-buyers will have options, they'll probably look online at some of the most recent performances before dropping a couple hundred on a ticket. Anyone who watches the Selects is likely to pick another option... those videos are honestly the worst promotion they could've done for future shows.

Showcasing Mexico 2020 probably wasnt the greatest idea.

The sales are truly abysmal, and it was going that bad already so they can't even blame Covid.

New music or some serious price drops need to happen. Preferably both! Plus the same people willing to shell out the big bucks in 2016 to see the freshly reunited line-up are hardly going to be willing to do the same again for another endless touring cycle. The Selects aren't doing any favours either.

I think once touring can be done in a safe way, there are going to be alot of competition for ticket sales amongst bands and artists. Considering ACDC have released an album there is one band that people will be wanting to see.

  15. I just think there wasnt much promo by the record company. According to slashs book the distribution of aint life grand was bad.

Slash was interviewed quite alot in  certain music mags here in oz when five oclock was released.

I wouldnt have known anything about aint life grand if i wasnt an actively going to the unofficial site snakepit.org. that was a good website.

If Axl didn't agree or had the final saying in this it would not have happened!

Stop blaming TB, in GNR world they are only "yes" men and can only "advice" Axl, in what to do, but we know how that goes! AXL IS THE BOSS!

Whos to say axl was told about the takedowns?. Do you think axl cares about videos being put online from their shows?.

I dont think axl would care about any of their shows online, considering we only have 2 official live DVDs tokyo 92 and appetite for democracy. That shows axls care factor about having live shows given to the fanbase.

Do you mean Joe Rogan? I haven't watched any of his podcasts etc. I quite like Trevor Noah - mainly as a stand-up comedian but also his show is fine. And I'd watch Conan whenever Bill Burr is the guest. These two have chemistry.
But that's just random Youtube stuff, it's not like I'm subscribed to any of these channels.

Sorry seth meyers i meant to say

i would love if joe rogan would invote axl onto his show for a no holds barred interview!

These people are like Jimmy Fallon – they like to hear themselves talk. The guests are often just brands that sell their show, it’s not really necessary to conduct some proper interview or anything, just a few tidbits or something “controversial” that would make the watch numbers, and that’s it.
But as usual, where there’s demand, there’s supply.

Cant stand jimmy fallon and that other tool seth rogan.

I don t see stadium gigs happening anywhere but Australia before fall/winter.

But I truly hope we will get club shows back by May/June.

As for GNR I think it will be only Aussie tour and New Zealand but who knows if this pays off shipping the stage etc for such a small amount of gigs ? 🤨

Im thinking the Australian/NZ dates will be the first shows. Then the rescheduled europe or US shows straight after before xmas or the same dates originally scheduled in 2021 but 2022.

Tge vaccine here in oz is to be given to elderley and health workers from next month and ongoing. But those undrr 50, working and in good health will be the last to receive it and may not get it until 2022.

100% - barring any legal issues for whatever reason there is no doubt it should all get included.

I wonder how much say do other ex band members have if any parts of the old songs are included whether they get credits or have any say whether any musical parts are approved by them to be included in any release......

If UYI is getting the Deluxe treatment then CD absolutely should too - and then we can get bundles of stuff. By the time that would likely arrive I’d expect GNR will have packed it in by then so no ‘issues’ with the current band.

Hardwired is a cracker in that it blends different song styles from across their career - there is something for everyone.

I really think  any deluxe edition of CD should include the version that was originally handed in to the record company in what 99?.

Any versions from other members and thats it. Release the lot.

    2 hours ago, mystery said:

Is this true? If so it would be nice. AFD is the more important and historical album but UYI was when they became a global band. I'd like to hear the rough mix version Slash mentioned in 95. He said it was better than the released albums.

Yep i hope the original mixes slash has will be apart of the boxset.
