No way, Todd is 100x the singer that Axl (in his current form) is.

No thanks, I don't want to see Frank Ferrer mess it up.

Nah man - it’s really easy to be a part time front man like Todd and sound good like this. At this tempo and in the right circumstances Axl could easily replicate it - early in the set etc etc.

One thing that’s missing is the lack of any anger in the delivery. It’s kinda just spoken - Axl might be able to add more of that. It’s the tempo that’s key….if slowed a notch it offers more breathing time.

However it’s still very cool to hear it in any form, done well and actually shows it COULD happen in the future.

  2. I think he did a good job. However - while I agree that breath control is key here it shouldn’t be forgotten that Kerns only sang lead on THREE songs so had plenty of gas in the tank.

I’m pretty sure if Axl was to have a go early on in a gig he could do absolutely fine.

One thing that was missing from Kerns (and probably from Axl if he did it) is the palpable anger that the original has. Obviously it’s a 30 year old song etc however it’s quite telling how different it sounds ‘speaking/singing’ it like Kerns - it didn’t have the bite and rage.

But we can't know of the clip is legit. The not answering more questions part seems random and therefor suspicious to me. You'd imagine someone having this to be interested to know more about it. And why not share more in the first place? It doesn't make sense imo.

Of course - absolutely no idea if legit or not. I took the response as the person was fed up of folks asking questions. 🤣

  4. I got a response:-

I have absolutely no information about this item other than what's written on it. This version feels like they were experimenting with a Nu Rock sound, which made sense given the vibe of the 2000s and 2005. Check out the clip here:

I removed the link because….well you know. It was a 10 second clip.

I won't be answering any more questions about this item. But thank you so much for your interest.

That looks like a massive troll-job to me, as the amount of listed variations borders on parody, but, who knows?  Hope we find out soon enough.

If you look at the ‘contributor’ seems like they have a mix of bands….and a CD from 7 months ago?

I don't agree that an album or even EP is necessary in 2023, it's no longer an album oriented music world and it hasn't been for years now, all you need is a new single every now and then to keep your fans interested. Albums are so much work and they are quickly forgotten and fall off the charts very fast a few weeks after they're out, it's not like it used to be, where albums would only get bigger after they're released.

It is now just put out all the singles before the album is even out, to get the pre-order up, chart high when it releases, and then the album is pretty much dead in the water after that. At that point you might aswell just keep putting out singles indefinitely instead of an album.

But I agree the one-two punch of The General followed by Monsters is awesome to listen to, they should keep that. Especially for the fans who confused Monsters to be The General all these years.

Might not be necessary but they may actually want/choose to do it. Folks should be under no illusion that there would be hype and likely a spot at the top of the charts…..but then it drop’s pretty quickly. No different to most artists really.

However - in terms of legacy/discography it expands it (something Axl has lamented), give fans something cool and gets the band some attention. Folk will look back and see nothing other than a number one album…not for how long etc.

I think it's like Axl said it was: CD ll, ie the second half of Chinese was completed since at least 2007 probably. An album's worth of material with complete vocals and Axl, for whatever reason, decided to sit on it.

Yeah - I’ve always bought into the notion that there WAS more material. The thought that he wouldn’t have captured any studio vocals for years and years just never really seemed believable to me. Clearly record company politics put a spanner in the works for CDII.

  8. Monsters is just all kinds of awesome. Give it a killer video and release it on its own as a single and I think it does well. Very well.

I don’t think it’s impossible to have an Atlas Shrugged / Monsters release at somepoint which would give us 6 songs. I can absolutely see there being more now that we just don’t know about….will they compile it as a single release though? I hope so.

I could see them releasing another 1-2 selects plus some random live songs while Slash and Duff are doing solo stuff next year, but I don't expect a live release. I think there was issues with both shows, basically they fucked over the company that recorded the Troubadour show and went with the cheapest option for Dodger stadium, so a lot of the shots are from drones flying above the stadium.

I'd probably watch a 2016 blu ray once then add some songs to my live GNR playlist, then rarely listen to the full show again.

To be honest - more selects would be fine (better than nothing). The selects we already do have shows there is footage from loads of gigs - another option is to do a ‘Flight 666’ type release that Iron Maiden did with each song on the release from a different gig. On the DVD/BR chuck in some footage of the band hanging out/travelling etc.

They had at least 2 shows professionally recorded - the Troubadour and Dodgers Stadium. There may have been one other NA 2016 show that was professionally filmed that I'm forgetting.

SCOM is all we've seen from the Troubadour recording:

I think little bits of the Dodgers Stadium show ended up in the pinball machine, along with screen footage of 15-20 other shows.

If they used some of the footage for the pinball machine then that at least gives some kinda hope that it may see the light of day at somepoint (this means they must have the footage and it’s not like the film crew retained it due to the disagreement).

If they really are going on hiatus at the end of this run for a while (to hopefully work on that new material) then a release while they are off the road would be a good stop-gap.

Summer/Autumn 2016 was peak reunion - as vocally Axl was on fire and the band was running on adrenaline and that energy of the reunion.

There is no downside to a potential 2016 gig release.

I wish Carrie was support in Chicago. I’d much rather see her than Pretenders. Plus her set list the other night was pretty awesome. Lot of r&r covers.

TBF - I was completely uninterested in seeing Pretenders in Glasgow (sick of hearing Brass In Pocket on radio all the time)….however they were pretty good live and Hynde still sings pretty well.

I just went back and listened to the leaked version and it's not that exciting imo. Hope Slash and Duff made it better.

Slash seems to have added a little change onto the end of the riff which is pretty cool and works. The solo played at soundcheck (if it’s the real one) is not very good though and a downgrade on Fincks. Still think it’s a cool tune with catchy hooks which should get lapped up by rock radio.
