Been working through the Vegas show one side at a time. It sounds so good. There is always a lot of talk around here about the current lineups tempos being too fast and the Vegas show again confirms that. The last song I listened to was NR from Vegas and it was fantastic. These days it sounds like they are rushing through the song which probably doesn't do Axl any favors. It also sucks the emotion and feeling out of the song and the solos. Anyway, the Vegas version fucking rocks.. That little Slash jam at the end was cool as well

    Spot on about NR.

It really is a beautiful song when played slower - much too fast these days.

Well here I am, trying to defend it...

Sorry, you can't give your point of view then say anyone who believes differently is stupid 'just because'.

Personally, while I like Izzy, I also like Richard. Hired hand or not, I like what he brings to the band, I like how he's gelled with Slash and Duff, and I like how we get to hear more of him now there's only two guitarists. I'm a big fan of the current lineup that blends both the classic and CD eras. It's cool to see how the band has still managed to evolve over the decades in spite of little material actually being released.

Do I like Izzy? Yes. Was he a key songwriter? Yes, but the songs are written already, it's pretty clear AFD 2.0 is never coming, regardless of who's in the band, so a performer is what's necessary.

But is Richard a worthy replacement? Yes. Is it good that, in a band dogged with turmoil since day one, they have someone who's both talented AND doesn't rock the boat? Yes.

Has anything I've said been categorically wrong? No, because that's how I see it. I'm not wrong, or indeed "stupid", and neither are you.

The fact of the matter is, none of us truly know what's going on. No matter what side of the fence you sit on, we're all just speculating. But there's one thing we can all be pretty certain of: if Izzy being in the band was a better idea than Richard, at this point in time, he'd be there – and he isn't.

Do i like rhetorical questions? Yes.

Do i like answering my own rhetorical questions? Also yes.

It was one of those Del James interview Axl gave around the time Chinese Democracy was released:

Would you consider a reunion with the 'Appetite' or 'Illusions' lineups?
    No.

    Why not?
A lot more reasons than I'll get into here now. Different reasons for each version and each individual. The Izzy bit was fun -- and also fun because we didn't have to rely on him in any way, which is how he prefers things and works better for everyone. That said, you never knew if Izzy would be there or not or if he'd remember the song or decide to leave early. It didn't cause any problems, because we were doing our show regardless and didn't have to depend on anything, but it did open everyone's eyes a bit and blow minds.

He called, asked to come out and negotiated a deal with management that it's probably best that none of us knew about or the fun would've seemed a bit more like being used or taken advantage of spoiling the moment. As it was, we had a great time.

It'd be highly doubtful for us to have more than one of the alumni up with us at any given time. I suppose Duff could play guitar on something somewhere, but there's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty. He wrote that whole bit about not having his guitar in Vegas, I'd assume, to save face. I was told by both the Hard Rock and different Guns industry people who had come out to be supportive of the new band and were a bit surprised to see him there, especially guitar in hand, but just assumed it was a surprise for the show and we were in on the arrangement.

Steven [Adler] brings assorted ambulance-chasing attorneys and the nightmare of his mother. One gig, or even a couple songs, could mean years of behind-the-scenes legal aftermath.

Is there seriously any possibility that slash would just show up with his guitar??

    Always found that hilarious.

I guess that's possible, but I don't doubt that Slash actually wants to record new shit for Gn'R. He always does it with his own band. That's all he said about the matter. It's up to Axl to decide what to do with it if Slash gets the chance to record it and I think the two of them talked about what they want to do next.

You're spot on - he does record shit with his new band.

  5. I'm usually very positive about GnR in most ways.

I like to think I'm very supportive of Axl and his voice issues.

BUT I just listened to hardskool in Perth and sweet fancy moses!

That was super hard to listen to.

I've been wondering about the correlation between Axl dancing like my grandma and singing badly.

His best 'recent' singing was when he was stuck in a chair with a broken foot in 2017.

    Should someone break his ankles?

    Just putting it out there.

100 percent on this one.  I am an older fan who was lucky enough to see them in the prime.  I was embarrassed seeing a guy with chux and kfc hat on.  Didnt fit gnr at all

In the words of Izzy Stradlin "time went by and it became a joke"

They became a band to be mocked and laughed at when they imploded in the 90s - adding a bloke wearing a KFC bucket didn't help (great guitarist or not)

Exactly. I wondered "Am I even a RHCP fan anymore? What's happening? Maybe I just don't like 'em anymore" but then I listened to Stadium Arcadium, BSSM, BTW and Californication again and it's all still great.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing.

Too many of the new songs are mid paced pop songs for me  - all start to blend together after a while.

    Starting to sound like Coldplay!

But then when I think about - I reckon it could have been a really good single album of 17 songs.

    Too much filler.

Hard to believe they left soul to squeeze off BSSM but found room for some of the songs on these albums.

  8. Their concerts are getting shorter and shorter.

Last concert according to setlist.com had 16 songs.

Take away the intro jam,  pea and john's solo song and that makes 13 with the band.

That's pretty poor for a stadium tour charging $200+
