I find UYI pretty iconic. Personal view of course.
I love the UYI covers. So cool. Fit the album title so well. Use your Illusion is such a great album title. The Alt CD covers were pretty cool as well. Especially the grenade cover. The Best Buy CD cover looks like it’s printed off an early 2000s inkjet.
The single covers are extremely mediocre. The Perhaps 8 ball is by far the best. The Hard Skool cover is so cheesy. Just like that dumb school bell. I don’t know how they managed to make a pretty cool rocker into queso city.

I guess they had to spend the logo money to pay off Kat. It looks like Fernando’s 3rd cousin from Brazil who moonlights as a graphic designer came up with that artwork.

I'm betting it won't even be released tonight
Of course it won’t. Nothing gets released early ever with this band. I’m not that excited. Unless the digital release is 7 mins long

I bet it’s exactly the same as the leaked version. Everyone has convinced themselves the leak isn’t the final mix just because they don’t like the mix.
It will be exactly the same. Everyone will get to experience Caram’s terrible mixing in full lossless quality lol

I agree. It's still a great song, but far from some epic ballad. Also regarding Sebastian Bach's comment on "The General". I get the feeling he might have heard a completely different song. Maybe he heard "Seven" and confused it with "The General"?
He may have been confused. It’s just disappointing that this “mythical” song we have all been waiting 15 years to hear ended up being just a basic 4 min album filler type track. Soul Monster is good (better than the general) but I would not call it “a big gun” by any means. (Accept for the bridge. That’s big gun)

Also The General being the Sequel to Estranged is one the most ridiculous things that Axl has ever said. I cannot even imagine how those two songs relate in his mind. His Brain must be like one of those police investigation walls with strings connecting seemingly unrelated events or people.

I still can’t believe The General is not a 7-8 min epic. I don’t hate it but it is nothing like I expected it to be

does anyone have the new higher quality one!! i missed this!!
It’s not really any different. Just a rip off a radio station

Ok got to hear it. Only difference is the bass. It’s definitely more thumpy for lack of a better word. Also it seems like the strings are a bit higher in the mix. I actually like the added bass. The biggest disappointment with this song is that it doesn’t have a ton of orchestra. In my mind it would because of how long and dramatic the string arrangements used to be before the shows would start back in the day

Can’t listen to the Japan Radio thing. It’s says you have to be in Japan. Did anyone rip it?

We were told that was delayed until early next year apparently 😝
GNR posted about it in the aftermath of the delay
After seeing the totally bloodbath of pissed off fans. They said they weren't happy with the mix and that they finally had it in a place they were happy with but it was too late to make Oc 27th....they never normally say anything silence is golden...so this was unexpected move by them
I think all that was just bullshit to placate a bunch of pissed off fans

But we know it wasn't the final mix, the horses mouth told us....unless we're presumed that was a lie? But then why miss the release date if they didn't care about the mix and it's the same...
Who said it was not the final mix?

And your point is? Have you met and dealt with him before?? If not, you're a stranger to him. What did you expect? That he rolls out the red carpet for you, because you're staying at the same hotel? At least he assumed he would see you at the party. Your fault you didn't ask what party.
Dude Fuck off. Someone asked if anyone had met Fernando. I just told my experience. I didn’t say whether he was good or bad I just told exactly what happened. I didn’t expect anything from anyone.

Maybe there's people on here who actually met and interacted with Fernando and observed him interacting with others on one occasion or another?
Just a thought, not saying the poster you refer to did because I don't know.
I met him in Vegas in 2011. I tried to be cordial and say what’s up. He was staying my floor a few rooms down from me so it was just me and him in the hallway. He kind of just brushed me off. I was being pretty chill because you know whatever. He said he would see me later at the party but I had no idea WTF he was talking about.

I get what you are saying, I just think at this point in time I don't know if I would feel confident going "hell hath no fury like a photographer scorned" nearly as much as I would simply believing that an attractive woman at a workplace within the entertainment industry was sexually harassed by a dude in a position of power
Of course I am on the side of, let's see all the facts - but I am already seeing too many people here quick to just dismiss Kat's claims (one poster earlier flat out said "I don't believe here") and that is mindboggling to me
Also some of her claims were incredibly specific and really bizarre. (Like the monkey thing lol) that is not the kind of thing most people just make up. And if she still has those texts of Fernando sending her porn…..He’s toast.

Did the version we have even have guitars? It always sounded like Axl singing over electronic stuff

Agree with you there. Question is though, changed the song for the better or worse though? 🤔
It’s impossible to say. The clip is so short and muffled.

yeah ive never actually heard myself. I am REALLY curious about the diffrenences
It’s pretty hard to hear. It’s not a very clear recording. It was obviously recorded off a 2000s era cell phone. You can make out the structure of the sound and some of the guitars and vocals but it’s muffled and people are talking over it. From what I can hear they certainly changed the song quite a bit with the Slash and Duff re-record.

The more I listen to The General the more I like it. I just wish it emphasized the Beltrami stuff more. I always imagined it would have this intense intro based on the intro to the live shows all those years ago.

@Arnuld @dude69 @DannyVinyard do any of you remember what Silkworms sounded like at this show? I found this review online which makes it sound like it was already closer to the 2018 leak/2021 release of ABSURD than the earlier performances in 2001:
From what I can recall it was just like the HOB version from the year before. Maybe a bit more guitar. I remember bitching to someone at the show how weird I thought the song was. But I remember liking it live. It was worlds better than Absurd. It still had the bitch like you chorus.

I can see something like that for a CD1 and CD2. That way a lot of the more basic- structured songs are interspersed with the more complex stuff. What do you think, @Sweersa?That second album would need to start Hard Skool with the original long intro

I wish people would stop perpetuating CD2 songs as "CD leftovers" to imply songs that didn't make the album were not good enough. It was said, by multiple members of the band, including Axl, that CD initially was going to be a double album or considered a double, and when they apparently scrapped that plan, it was going to be a follow-up "second part" of the 2008 album, to be released a year or so after the 2008 album.
CD is not a "best of" the 2.5 (or so) albums worth of material they finished by 2008. Axl's conversation with Bach after he played him songs like The General and others further supports this, as him wanting certain songs on different albums (talking about three albums) because they fit other songs lyrically.
The Village leaks also support this, as there are complete or nearly complete songs that were not placed on the first album that are better (somewhat subjective) than a majority of the songs on the first album. The 2000 mixes of Perhaps and Hard Skool alone are better than a lot of the songs on the first album, likely considered A-list by the band.
I always thought that the CD1 and CD2 were supposed to be like Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac. Two Albums recorded during the same sessions both containing A-listed and B-listed songs and a few extra tracks not slated for either album.

I think what most old school fans struggle with is separating the early work from Axl’s modern work. It’s two completely different entities. While the CD work has elements of the previous work it’s not the same thing. Not the same band, not the same style. If CD was a brand new album by a brand new artist it would be considered one of the most ambitious and best debut albums of all time. Same with the follow up singles that comprise CD2. It’s the connection to the previous history that makes the mind think this music is bad when in reality most of it is quite good.
