  1. I've never seen a bad review for Appetite. The first review I ever read for the album came from Hit Parader magazine, giving it four stars out of five. I don't believe Rolling Stone ever officially reviewed it upon its' initial release, because they were busy kissing Bono and U2's asses for 'The Joshua Tree'. It wasn't until '88 that Guns got their first Rolling Stone cover. The primary reason that the album was overlooked by the Grammy committee back then is due to the late July release, and all eligible records for Grammy consideration were decided at the end of September. No one on the committee had likely ever heard of the band, let alone listened to the record.
  2. Axl was truly an icon of rock during the late 80’s/early 90’s, but it seemed as though he was self sabotaging himself through his behavior. There were people I knew who said they wouldn’t listen to GN’R anymore because of the Manson t-shirt and hidden song on TSI. Finally got to the point where no one in the original band could stand to be around him. So yes, it’s great to have the Axl we have now, it’s just unfortunate that he couldn’t bring himself to reach out and make amends with Slash until 2015. His best days as a vocalist were already fading before then. I’d be the first in line for Axl’s autobiography, should he ever choose to write it.

  4. We’re still trying to find good things to say about ‘The General’?
  5. It’s a really, really, really bad song. The band would be wise to never play the song live again, and stick with songs from Appetite and the Illusion records, unless they want 20,000 fans to get up at once to take a piss break while they grind through The General. I know that’s where I’ll go.
  6. Been a GN'R fan for 36 years, and I think "The General" is easily one of the ten worst songs the band has ever officially released. Seems like everyone's trying to polish a turd here, but that's what the song is: a turd. Wasn't everyone kind of expecting something epic? Based on the urban legends of the song, it should have been something on a grand scale like Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir". Instead, we get a song that sounds distorted, with repetitive lyrics ( "don't know what to tell you now", over and over). We waited 25 years for THIS? Just ditch the whole industrial rock/nu metal garbage, and go back to making rock and roll music.
  7. I think Axl's track record with women back then speaks for itself. This is the same Axl who used Steven Adler's girlfriend to record an actual sexual encounter for "Rocket Queen". However, I don't think it's right for charges to be brought up 34 years later, the woman had plenty of time to file a suit before now. This whole #metoo movement is really sketchy. Seems like an invitation for a woman, or man in some instances, to take a consensual sexual encounter, and claim rape/sexual assault years later. There are probably divorced women who have used this against their former husbands just in an attempt to ruin their reputation.
  8. It's an Axl Rose solo record. Robert Plant didn't release solo records and call it Led Zeppelin, Don Henley didn't release solo records and call it The Eagles, Mick Jagger didn't release solo records and call it The Rolling Stones. Gotta have more than one original member on an album, otherwise it's a solo record. For what it's worth, Chinese Democracy has a few bright spots like There Was A Time and Catcher In The Rye, but otherwise it's generally a letdown. I haven't listed to the full album in about ten years.
  9. I just can’t stand the industrial rock phase that Axl tried to turn the band into. This song is maybe worse than “Oh My God” and “The General”. Hopefully it will remain a demo and never be officially released.
  10. I’m not finding much to like about The General, either. It just sounds noisy. I could never stand that industrial rock from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Why Axl is still trying to make it work in 2023 is a question that only he could probably answer. I sure hope after all these Chinese Democracy era songs are done with, they get back to the AFD sound that made them overnight sensations all those years ago.
  11. Monsters is definitely the better of the two. I don’t know what to make of The General after one listen, but I do know it sounds dated.
  12. I dunno, it seems like Taylor Swift---who we must acknowledge is the most popular music entity on Planet Earth---can get her version of '1989', with multiple alternate covers, out on time. I got an email from the Taylor Swift store stating that the alternate cover I bought for my daughter for Christmas shipped today. Maybe that's why the "Perhaps" single is delayed--they ran out of vinyl to fulfill the orders for Taylor Swift
  13. The delayed release of "Perhaps/The General" on vinyl will be the focus of a cover story in the November issue of 'Things That Shouldn't Surprise You' magazine
  14. I get the feeling there's going to be an announcement either ahead of or during these two shows. I'd like to think it would be for an EP release in time for Christmas, or the band taking an extended break from touring. Not necessarily a farewell, but some time for everyone involved to get some personal time away from the tours of the last three years.
  15. Yes. A digital release is another revenue stream. There's no way it's only going to be available as a B-side to a song that most people have already moved on from.
  16. I believe this would be a nod to the 2007 film 'There Will Be Blood'
