  1. Slash said in an interview from years ago that he patterned the solo of SCOM from the solos of two huge 70’s songs: Manfred Mann’s version of “Blinded By The Light”, and “Baker Street” by Gerry Rafferty. To think there might never have been a SCOM had Axl not heard Slash warming up with his “goofy personal exercise”. Also, the person at Geffen Records that convinced the higher-ups at the label to release it as a single, saying it would be a #1 song if it got radio airplay.
  2. There was a revolving door of musicians coming in and out of the "band". Who can you say was an official member of Guns N' Roses in that time frame, besides Axl and Dizzy? Stinson and Fortus, maybe? There seemed to be a new face on every tour between 2001-2014. When I saw Guns N' Roses in 2006, there was Pitman, Bumblefoot, Finck, and I truly can't remember who was doing the drumming. Buckethead was long gone. They were all hired hands, with the exception of Fortus and Frank Ferrer. The list of people that played on Chinese Democracy is so long, it's somewhat awkward for anyone to consider it a "band" effort. I think what Axl learned is that the Guns N' Roses name didn't help sell records if there was no one from the original lineup participating besides himself.
  3. I got the Appetite For Destruction limited edition vinyl delivered today. I actually bought four, one for myself, and three for each of my sons. I really like the metallic shine, much like the Use Your Illusion limited editions from last year. Got numbers 619, 640, 670, and 1817 (wtf). Keeping the 619 for me. Saw three being auctioned on Ebay, they're all over $100.
  4. It's available on the US site as well. In the states, it ships on September 29th, so only two weeks from today. Like the banned AFD cover that started shipping last week, this vinyl version is limited to 3,000 copies. https://gnrmerch.com/products/greatest-hits-exclusive-numbered-color-lp
  5. When the final show of the final tour comes, let it be the AFD original five, and make it a pay per view event.
  6. He just likes staying busy, as does Duff. I’m sure they’ll be meeting up with Axl during the course of 2024 and working on some things. SMKC is a side gig, Guns N’ Roses are the moneymakers.
  7. It’s not bad. I have no idea what it represents, though. The only thing I can recognize is the roses forming the St. Louis arch. Don’t know what the monster is about.
  8. Maybe Melissa’s pregnant, and has been experiencing morning sickness that lasts all day…..?
  9. The General will be available to download, I am certain of that. Radio stations don’t “spin records” anymore, so if the band wants the song to receive airplay, they’d better make it available digitally.
  10. There has been new music, just not in the quantities that us hardcore fans have been wanting. We got two in 2021, and at least two this year. People complain that it's not really new because the demos of them have been around for years. To that I say, it's not the band's fault that people chose to hear the leaked demos and form an opinion of the demos versus the official final versions. Had they not been leaked, the band could have held on to them and prepped them for a release on a full length album, but I'm sure they got tired of people having access to the demos.
  11. No way they take a break longer than two years. Time is not on the side of Axl’s voice. He can rest it for a while, but there’s no magic potion that’s going to make his voice sound like it’s 1992 again. If the plan is to record a new full length album from scratch, the songs are going to have to be tailored around the voice of a 61 year old Axl. These songs would replace a lot of the older material that he struggles with live. Realistically, if they want to continue for the next 10-15 years, they’ll have to put out an album within the next couple of years so they don’t lose the momentum they have gained during this tour.
  12. Seems to mirror the Fenway Park show, in my opinion. The sound quality was all over the place there, but it was based on what I'd heard and read about shows at Fenway. Axl was spotty in Boston also. He was Mickey-ish on Sweet Child O' Mine, but nailed Nightrain, which came well after SCOM.
  13. At one time, he had a Facebook account under his real name. I hardly use Facebook now, so I just look at the official band page whenever something is posted there.
  14. August 24, 1988: Guns N' Roses open for Aerosmith at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts (now known as the Xfinity Center) in Mansfield, Massachusetts. It is the first of three consecutive nights at the venue. Appetite For Destruction is the #1 album in the country, and "Sweet Child O' Mine" has just entered the top 10 on the Billboard singles chart. The band plays "Patience" during their set, which would get its official studio release on the GN'R Lies EP on November 30, 1988. Following the run of shows at that venue, Guns N' Roses are permanently banned from ever playing there again. To my knowledge, the details of the ban were not made public.
  15. I didn't get to see The Pretenders' full set, my sons and I didn't get into the place until about 5:45, and then we went to the merch stands. The Fenway Park exclusive t-shirt was a hit, especially being available in both black and green.
  16. Just my two cents about last night's show, which I attended with my three boys. People have said that concerts at Fenway Park don't sound very good, and I have to agree with this claim. It didn't help with the rain, of which there wasn't any forecasted the day before. It's not the band's fault, with maybe the exception that they agreed to play at the oldest and crappiest ballpark in America. Slash was fantastic in most of the songs performed, though the closing of "November Rain" sounded out of key in a couple of spots. I don't know quite what they did with "Absurd". It sounded like an extended version, which was fine. I've never heard an audience at a concert get as batshit crazy as when Slash finished his solo and started "Sweet Child O' Mine". The place just erupted. It was good seeing young people (teens, twenties) there, it means that good music and artists transcend generations. Felt bad for Axl and the mic issues he was having during "Perhaps". Best song overall: "Nightrain". It was brilliant, a powerhouse. Biggest good surprise: Though I'm not a big fan of it, "This I Love" being performed, and also "Pretty Tied Up". Also, Chrissie Hynde playing harmonica on "Bad Obsession". Biggest disappointment: No "Mr. Brownstone"!!!
  17. I think Frank plays just fine in live shows, so I don’t know why he hasn’t played on all the studio material since he joined the band. Guns N’ Roses at their best, at least to me, never been about one individual standing out, but each individual contributing to make a song legendary….the “whole being greater than the sum of its parts”.
  18. If Slash hadn’t returned to Guns N’ Roses in 2016, Axl and his band would be playing at 2,000 seat venues, or maybe not playing anywhere at all. I’m pretty sure Axl had an epiphany sometime during the Las Vegas residency, and asked himself how it had gotten to that point. From the world’s biggest band in 1991 to a Las Vegas residency. You only hurt yourself by hearing leaked demos performed by musicians for hire that were never meant to be heard unless it was an official release. Slash never was a shredder, and Guns N’ Roses was never meant to be a band consisting of quirky, offbeat musicians like Buckethead and Robin Finck. It’s strange enough that Fortus was once in The Psychedelic Furs.
  19. Good deal. I bought mine through the Nightrain presale in February. Paid less for better seats than I did for Gillette Stadium in 2016. $99.50 per ticket before fees.
