Then again, its not like it has been done before in the music industry. In my recent memory, Phil Collins announced the bands retirement on the last show on the Genisis Tour:
During band introductions, Axl just mentioned Melissa has pneumonia, to get well, and said his gratitude to the band as it stood for 7 prior years.
