Well everyone, it was a fun ride. Would’ve never guessed we’d get The General this year. For me personally I think the discography has closed and ended so I see this as the end of the era. Not saying nothing else will never happen but I don’t expect anything and don’t feel like there’s a lot left. These 5 songs + some demos makes me feel like we have heard CDII.

Monsters will 100% be released. 1) It's top 2 from the NITL songs, and 2) Slash and Duff didn't take time to record their parts for it not to get released.  It'll be out next year at the end of summer/early fall.

With it being a guarantee for being released, that means we're also getting at least one other song in 2024, since they're releasing them in pairs.  Probably Atlas or SOG.

  2. Love both songs, and together think it's a masterpiece.

My take is that The General is about abuse from Axl's father/stepfather and Monsters is about some sort of abuse from his mom, or perhaps even both sets of parents (Dynamic duo keep your figure crashing).  I also think that when he sings "Oh but it's over now" it's actually in relief, like "oh thank god this nightmare is finally over." Hence, this is why the chorus sounds almost uplifting and the lead guitar from slash is also upbeat or happy.

Lastly, I think the entire outro solo is extremely bluesy and is Slash and not a mix of Slash and Fortus.

Even though I called the new Stones song “Angry” a little boring, I listened a second time. The mixing is superb. GNR needs to get on that level.

It’s clear why oldheads love “Angry.” It’s very much a classic-sounding, bluesy rock song. And those types of people, who also love Appetite, aren’t gonna love “The General and Monsters.” Seems their reaction is one of anger. “This is NOT what I want MY Guns N’ Roses to sound like.”

I’ve even seen some people question Duff’s and Slash’s integrity for “agreeing to play on this shit and doing what Axl tells them to do.”

Eh. I think of it like this: Duff and Slash still love to write, record and release new music. Axl may not share that same passion anymore. He isn’t necessarily telling them, “Here, you have to work on these old songs.” Rather, what if he was saying he no longer has the desire to write new music, but if Slash and Duff want to release stuff under the GNR name, then have at it with the stuff in the vault that doesn’t necessitate Axl recording new vocals.

Maybe Axl is content being a performance artist these days. There’s nothing wrong with that despite me being a thirsty little bitch for any and ALL new GNR songs featuring Axl.

I'd maybe buy into this theory, but then I think it goes out the door when you consider that he took the time to record vocals for Rock the Rock.

I still think Axl wants to record new music, but I think the circumstances have to be right for him. Whatever that is...

  4. There is no chance Monsters is the same as Me & My Elvis/Soul Monster from the village leaks.  That instrumental sounds nothing like Monsters, not even elements of it, not to mention, it's already structured as a complete song idea.  The only thing it needs are the vocals.

I'm willing to bet that if Soul Monster ever gets released, the instrumental will be almost identical to the village leaks...kind of like how 3 Dollar Pyramid was virtually unchanged from the final Better.

  5. I found this reaction video very entertaining.  Just reminded me how UNIQUE and 1 of 1 Axl was and why this band was so incredibly good.  Axl was (and is still, I suppose) so damn special - immensely talented, incredible energy, effortless power, raw angst and emotion, unbelievable range, wonderful tone and pronunciation...I could go on all day.  Dude was one hell of a performer.

It was probably the mushrooms but I didn't mind TIL last night lol.. Slash's solo was awesome..

Great show over all.. I had row 19 of section A3 but it really ended up being only 3 rows behind the pit. Killer seats.  Was pumped to see Bad Obsession, Pretty Tied Up, Anything Goes and Reckless Life.. They were all phenominal.. Axl was pretty strong the first half of the show but struggled a bit more as it went on.  Everyone was singing anyway so it didn't really matter.  The crowd was great considering the weather. The monsoon was something else.. My sneakers were full of water and I was soaked down to my boxers.. It was crazy.. Made for a memorable experience for sure but I am glad it tapered off eventually .. The whole "Like Holy Water" part of Slither with the buckets of rain coming down was just one of those moments that will stick forever.. Nightrain wasa beast last night... So much energy... Slash's solo spot was short but amazing. Axl fell down again at one point.. But recovered seemlessly.. He sure falls alot these days..

Great show but always have to have some critiques..  This is the second time in a row the Fenway show was only like 2hrs 25 minutes when the rest of the world gets 3 hour shows. Which kind of sucks.. Setlist FM says the show went til 10:25 but Paradise City finished at like 10:12.. Maybe 10:17 but they could have fit in another song.. Knowing the curfew, they should have went on by 7:30 as well rather than 7:45.. I was really looking forward to Down on the Farm so was bummed about that..  Absurd is fucking terrible and a waste of time.. Torture lol.. I took a piss during Hardschool..  Perhaps is the better of the 3 but can still take it or leave it... I would definately leave it for the chance to see Down on the Farm or Locomotive and they certainly would have made more sense to drop one of those before Brownstone.  Great that they want ot play their latest releases but they really aren't good enough that they need to play all of them.. There were no intro jams before KOHD, Jungle or Ptience.. Axl might want to re-think his out fot he had on for NR and Patience too lol.. That vest with his belly hanging out under it.. Was pretty awkward to look at..

I think this was my 5th post reunion show and I would say it ranked number #2 out of the 5.  Great show.. Just wished it was a bit longer.

Setlist.fm says Slash played a piece of Fall to Pieces after Patience but I didn't notice that.

Thought the same thing about his vest. Wasn't the best look.

Man, wish I could go back 24 hrs. That was fun, the rain made it so much more special.

I really had a great time at this show. This was my 9th GNR show going back to 2010!

I said the same thing in 2021, but you really don’t notice vocal issues in person much. I’m not saying YouTube magically makes things sound bad, it’s just when you have the live mix, natural reverb, volume, etc, it all makes for a completely acceptable (and beyond) performance. They really are still a force to be reckoned with live. You get your money’s worth with live GNR and there are few stadium/arena legacy hard rock bands that perform on this level in terms of energy and show length.

Axl- Overall, Axl did a killer job imo. Sometimes he would do the “mush voice” (where the rasp and high pitched notes come through live and he hits the notes, but the words aren’t very clear), but he was really giving it his all. It’s incredible the dude can still hit some of the notes he does with the power required. A good example was the end of Anything Goes, holy cow was I impressed. There were lots of great vocal moments in a live setting. He had a superb energy, was relatively talkative, and probably looked the best I’ve seen him going back to 2010. It’s wild he can still perform at this level at his age. The vocals may not be 2016, but that is okay. He gets MVP of the night for me

Slash- There isn’t much to say about Slash that I haven’t been saying since forever. The dude kills it, live. For all the bitching about shredding or whatever, it doesn’t matter at all live. Slash belongs in GNR. The end. I loved the 3 NuGNR shows I saw and cherish those memories, but it’s just a massive need to have Slash up there in his rightful place. He’s basically another frontman. Killer tone, last night. He changed up the second Estranged solo, again, but it was really cool in the rain. I actually loved his TiL solo, too. When they started the song, I was bracing for a mess based on all the “SlAsH SuCkS oN TiL” posts over the years (I always thought it was great in 2016, then it got meh), and I haven’t heard newer versions. It was one of the best solos of the night, he made his guitar scream. Perhaps solo was pretty cool, live. I liked it with the added power and saturation of being live and with that rig. He had a tiny flub at the start of the NR solo and maybe SCOM (or slightly out of tune), but other than that, flawless.

Rest of the band- Duff is Duff. TV Eye was cool, and I dig the Stooges. They are wisely utilizing backing vocals a lot more this tour. I think it’s smart to do to help Axl out. Axl is very much still singing all his parts, and the added Melissa and Duff vocals help fill the sound and help Axl. New vocal arrangements freshen up some tunes like Civil War imo. As a guitar nerd, Fortus’ tone is absolutely amazing and he is such a good compliment to Slash. They use him just enough imo, and his RQ and KoHD solos are great (another duet like WYWH would be neat). Frank sounded fine. Drum tone was not tinny or overpowering. Dizzy played piano.

Setlist- Fuck yeah. 6 songs (not including covers) that I’ve never gotten before- Bad Obsession, Pretty Tied Up, Reckless Life, Perhaps, Hard Skool, and Anything Goes. Free first half of the show was super exciting for me because of the deep cuts and new songs. After following this band religiously since 2006 or 2007, it was surreal getting Hard Skool and Perhaps. I really dug HS live, in particular. The classic songs all killed, too. Harmonica on BO, I love PTU, and the vocals on Reckless and AG were a treat. I would have died if they played TWAT or Locomotive, but I really can’t complain with the setlist. This refresh was so needed. New classic songs AND new songs, it is what we have been wanting for years and years.

My one big setlist complaint is fucking Silkworms. As soon as they did Absurd it killed the energy for me briefly. As a novelty, it was goofy in 2021, but man this song sucks and it sucks live. Hearing Axl shout those garbage lyrics in full clarity and repeating them 3 times is a total miss. The guitars were changed live and were cool, but it still is awful. Other than that, I enjoyed every song.

One of my favorites of the night was shockingly Slither. I never thought Axl sounded great on Slither, and he probably didn’t last night- but the monsoon rain started coming right during Slither and it was magic. It carried into Jungle and made everything super memorable.

Misc- Saw them with a really good college friend I don’t get to see much. She was exhausted and doesn’t know GNR but she tougher it out so we could hang. She left early cause she was tired from work, but she was really impressed with the band. Met another friend after a which all made for a great night . It’s always fun to see GNR in another city, and the Boston crowd killed my native Detroit crowd. Maybe it was the rain, but the energy in Fenway was electric. Sound and seats were also fantastic. All the horror stories of Fenway didn’t pan out for me. I loved the venue. Great to be in such a historical ball park

Overall, fucking killer show. I had fun in 2021, but this was a better show on every level. Fresh setlist, new songs, great performance and energy. What a great night, so glad the stars aligned and I got to see them this tour

Edit- I forgot! I caught the second half of The Pretenders and dug their set! Great opener choice this tour

Totally agree about everything except absurd, I enjoy that song.

I was dead middle on turf B4 and the sound quality was excellent.  The rain made for an AWESOME vibe and made it super memorable.  Agree that the peak rain during slither made it really cool, especially with some of the stage lighting fully displaying how hard it was raining.

Saw Axl in 2006 and 2016.  While I was most impressed by 2006 abilities, he sounded hust as good tonight as he did in 2016 (the one exception is that jungle sounded better in 16). Overall,  great show, can't wait to see them again at some point.

Personally I actually quite like it ending on that double stop bend, ending on that F# chord which is the dominant chord going back to the tonic which the piano hits when it comes back in with B minor, the tonic of the key at the top of the intro/verse progression

No idea what you're talking about since I'm not a musician lol.  But, I'll take your word for it.  Maybe it will grow on me, but I felt I wasn't getting that satisfactory resolution at the end.

On another note, I'm almost positive Axl just tacked on a little extra scream to the "aloonneeeeeee" at the end of the song.  Pretty certain it is the original "alone" from the demo with the little added scream at the end cut/pasted in.  Definitely wouldn't be the first time he's pasted in vocals to an existing vocal line (end of ChiDem, Rhiad, etc.).
