He strips the soul out of the bands he produces. They end up sounding like paint-by-numbers imitations of themselves with the heart ripped out. Also his albums tend to be processed within a midges appendage of their lives - loud and unpleasant.

I haven’t heard the Stones record so this is my view having heard the Eddie Vedder one (listen to Earthling compared to all prior Eddie solo material) and Ozzy.

Hard agree. Not a Watt fan. Something about his sonics feel sicly to me.

If he was out of the band I almost guarantee he would be less than flattering.

I like the guy, but I also appreciate that gnr to him is a comfy gig that pays well so he is quite happy to toe the line.... But I don't think he would be listening to gnr if he wasn't being paid, and I still think if you were a trusted friend he'd tell you the same. Gnr aren't cool, and he likes all those cool/hip 80/90s bands. End of the day as long as he's pulling the gig off who cares! And he definitely is doing that, without question!

to be fair to Richard, they had pretty big hair! As does he..but maybe more in the classic Faces/Izzy/Rooster styling.

Hearing him talk and then sing like that made me see him as quite vulnerable actually - not something you usually associate with axl. RIP Lisa, life gets us all, and way sooner than you expect.

Yes, 'mellow and vulnerable' would be a style it would be cool to hear him explore some time, unlikely as that may be. I wonder if Rick Rubin or whoever has ever made overtures to Axl to make some kind of 'veteran survivor' album. Sometimes that sort of thing is cheeseball, but I'd like to hear something like that from W.A.R. I can dream.

The dudes agenda is clearly only to bring importance to himself and present himself in a good way, not to tell any truth of what happened. That's not to say it's all gonna be bullshit in that book, but it will be worth nothing more than a curiosity read because you really can't trust any of the things he writes and how he will paint them.

Also what is it with GNR managers being nutters about things like satan lol, this is the 2nd guy because Alan Niven also talked about stuff like that, that ACDC makes music in the devils name or something along those lines. Even Axl was sort of into such absurd beliefs at some point with him paying that woman thousands of dollars in the early 90s for that "psychic" stuff. Some wild people in GNRs world.

Really goes to show just how many people must blag and bullshit their way into these kinds of roles.

Yes, Axl told Trunk in 2006 that he had spent 3 months in China two years before.

It's unclear though when that was exactly. He was reportedly in China in October 2002, during the period between the VMAs and the NA tour, but that would amount to two months at most, not three months:

Maybe he went there again in 2004.

I'm uncharitably picturing Axl smoking a cigar/drinking Bud in the VIP of the Shanghai Rainbow

any chance you go where he went off in the near future?

it is not a matter of what they want, it is more a matter of what they can.

fact is, without Izzy/Matt/Gilby/Adler they are simply incapable recording anything worthy of GNR moniker.

Hardschool, Absurd type stuff you can hear in 3 local bars in any block anywhere on this planet.  Perhaps the no names have even better numbers up their sleeves.

This is possibly more a General Musing, but I would be fascinated to hear them at least -try-. I'm not interested in AFD part 2, I want to hear where they're at now. But with bands it gets tricky. Everyone's rich and has their own manager. Everyone lives in different cities. Look at REM hanging out in Athens in 81 vs REM in 2005 fighting terminal boredom to record Around The Sun or whatever...Shit gets weird. Doubly so when your singer is Axl!

I'd be thrilled to see them accomplish something along the lines of the Stones Blue & Lonesome. Not gonna happen, I know, I know...

Is Iggy singing in Frenzy? Doesn't seem his voice...

Sounds like him to me. But there's been a major drop off in his recorded stuff post-Post Pop Depression. But the guy made Raw Power and Lust For Life so he gets a free pass to do  as he will.

What’s nice is how he’s always played a Gretsch. His signature look Falcon is beautiful. That’s not a euphemism for his beak, just to note…

Also, don’t look up handkerchief code unless you’re on a private browser. As a member of the community I can tell you some colours are VERY MUCH do not wear. Especially brown…

Haha. A more adventurous friend filled me in on some of these a few weeks ago.  I've obviously had a sheltered life.

Little fashion side note for everyone.

Bandanas (handkerchief)  in the back pocket originated during the days where being promiscuous was taboo. Having one hanging out of your back pocket was a sign you were DTF. Aka Hanky Panky.

Yeah so I thought too. But Slash never responded to my post show booty call DMs. What a tease.

  10. I'm definitely an AFD guy. And for them to go one and done and call it quits in 88 would have been incredible. But...even if the music doesn't resonate with me as much, I wouldn't want to miss Lies, the UYI saga, TSI, the whole batshit Chinese period...

I'd even miss the madness of spending seven years checking daily to see if the obscenely well resourced rock band known as Guns N Roses have bothered to record even. one. measly. fucking. song?!

It seems Slash was still in touch with Niven in the beginning of the reunion and told him some things. But then Niven started airing that information - surely embellished and mixed with his own guesses/opinions - either directly or through "insiders". I can imagine how awkward Slash's position must have been because of that, so it's no wonder that he doesn't want to have much to do with Niven anymore.

yeah the "My Curly Haired Friend" references were a bit creepy.

Yeah this is getting silly. I need to check out for a bit.

Yeah. The idea that a touring and merchandising colossus with a GDP the size of a small Pacific nation needs to seek concessions from their record label to release something/anything is very suspect.

All that aside, I hope to near something new (or 'new')...

  13. I like the Gilby. Pawnshop Guitars is pretty nice, but my interest waned afterwards. Hopefully he does get up with 'em. He seems like a pretty positive force in GnR world, lawsuits aside.

A Matt cameo I think I could do without. Seems like that guy doesn't need any his ego (or his balls) stroked any more than they currently are.
