  1. Yep, all Soulie's articulately described rational thoughts and friendliness really need to be held back. You can have too much intelligence and camaraderie in Anything Goes.
  2. Today I started the task of changing a light bulb. It ended with me removing a lampshade using bolt cutters. So now I own bolt cutters.
  3. Cancelling all public flights from the start would have been a good idea. Let the airlines and associated industries take the brunt. Any emergency/diplomatic flights can be arranged by a chartered private flight. I understand that many passenger planes have been reappropriated for cargo. Sadly the British take the most foreign holidays of any nation. It's ingrained in our culture. People will just pay for a holiday on their credit card and worry about paying for it later. It's mainly due to the combination of terrible weather and the high cost of holidays in the UK. Plus, thanks to
  4. This was a gift from my sister who's undergrad is in psychology. I don't agree with everything he says, mostly because he's an atheist who can't comprehend how a theist can be intelligent or happy. But I respect his principles, he's intellectually honest and as a result of this book, I deleted my Twitter account. Worth every penny for that.
  5. Congratulations! I've bought it and shall write a review.
  6. As with much of the US justice system, the death penalty is inherently racist. The people campaigning to end the death penalty are usually the families of those on death row. People who end up in this situation aren't privileged. Until the US state guarantees that a black man can have the same chance at life as a white man, they should stop killing the ones who fall through the cracks.
  7. I've told him. Let's not embarrass the poor soul further.
  8. Yes, but it wasn't exactly last week, I'm happy to laugh at myself.
  9. Good riddance. I still haven't worked out why he was elected to begin with.
  10. This is a really sad case. It's similar to Linda Carty in many respects. I really hope it doesn't set a precedent for her end too.
  11. Nice one Downzy. It's about time as I once snogged one of the posters on the first page of the last General Chat and it has constantly haunted me.
  12. Wow, Slash was always very private regarding his boys. I remember catching glimpses of them as toddlers backstage at Live Aid. I suppose that was 15 years ago, and I've grown too.
  13. We're all adjusting to the idea that the end of coronavirus is going to be gradual, even with a vaccine. I've learned that if something isn't allowed in the USA, is sure as hell won't be happening in Europe.
  14. All of England has been put on Tier 4 lockdown now. But for some reason, childcare is still open, so I'll continue to take my daughter to nursrey. It's all very confusing, but having spent the majority of 2020 mopping up spills, I'll take what I can get.
  15. F'n Budweiser returning and winning all the forum awards again!
  16. That was Kevin's thing, wasn't it? I was made a mod on that forum, even though I had no idea at all how to play Mafia.
  17. Is drinking an entire bottle of wine over a six hour time period, acceptable, if not positively healthy?
  18. Happy new year boys and girls. As the restrictions in the UK are changing today, many restaurants will have bought food in preparation for new year's eve. As they can't open anymore, consider ordering takeaway from a restaurant tonight.
  19. This is such an emotionally strange time. We have vaccines, but cases are still soaring, which will lead to greater restrictions. Tied in with the new year approaching, knowing what a disappointment 2020 was, I really don't know how to feel. On a personal level, I'm really lucky that I am doing OK and didn't have to apply for the third grant self employment support offered. I've heard that banks are now considering that in mortgage applications (something we weren't warned about before applying for the first two).
  20. I'm having to self isolate for five days. I'm only going to miss the running.
  21. I'm no longer a huge fan, though nostalgia is very powerful. I enjoy what the band used to be. Since the reunion didn't happen as fully as anyone hoped, I'm fine with enjoying the past. Overall, I feel that GN'R's attitude towards this forum has been a huge wasted opportunity to connect with the people who still care.
  22. A sincere, heartfelt Merry Christmas to everyone here, especially to those whom I disagree with. 'Tis the season of goodwill and all that.
  23. Thank you DieselDaisy. That all sounds very helpful. I can't control the state of the pandemic, but I can control my bookings.
  24. Are any other married people jealous of the folks who had microweddings this year? 100% of wedding stress is caused by guest politics. And one has to invite their family to their wedding. For us that included the two aunts who didn't get on, my overbearing grandmother and that's not even mentioning his side of the family... I'd loved to have a good reason like that not to invite them.
