  1. I was one (and still am) to think how bad Slash live tone and playing has gone downhill for fair numbers of years now (and it makes me even more sad when listening to Tokyo '92 or both Snakepits!) but this new (old) song Killer Floor is giving me hope! It proves that he can still pull it off in this registry that is actually so him when he first started. You don't need a million wanking notes and 20min non sense solos like he's been doing with GNR lately. Really enjoyed this first track, and can't wait for the rest of the album to be released, there's definitely some good/solid guitar playing from Slash here, and it's a beautiful thing in 2024! Now if only he could get his GNR live sound back (and not these weak ass Magnatone, for god sake, if anyone apart from Marshall, Friedman should be the legitimate option to build him an amp...), and inspired playing (and timing... thank you in-ear monitoring...) then that would be amazing. Can only dream! 😃
  2. Yes that’s correct. listened with headphones again, and the tone change/phrasing is definitely not Slash. So it’s either a leftover or Richard indeed for that specific part.
  3. 100% agree on the above, especially the Slash, that I have also expressed many time here, and I’m a Slash fanboy, so no hate from me, just observations unfortunately… looks like everyone who share the above are more often than not, guitarist (ToonGuns are you one too by any chance ?) as guitarists we might be picking up on these thing more easily I guess?
  4. Well if he doesn’t use them for SMKC, results are still the same regarding his playing, lead sound and too many notes when playing SMKC… So while I agree in-ears aren’t exactly the best solution for some applications, it doesn’t explain everything here unfortunately.
  5. On another lighter note, found these interesting as there were some slight last minute variation to the setlist we had in the end (and Coma isn't even on there):
  6. I echo 100% the above too. Exactly what I was trying to verbalize. Again, Slash is my ultimate guitar hero, I picked up the guitar when I was 11 after listening to bootlegs from my best friend's older brother, and I'm now 42, and the guitar never left me... So I'll always be the 1st one to defend Slash if anything. But it's also fair to express what's been going on, and not sounding presumptuous but my 30 years of playing and analyzing his playing inside out (like many here I'm sure), it's fair to say that I can easily spot/hear the differences, or maybe his "evolution" should we say instead? for better or for worse (worse here IMO) it's just not the same. (same goes for SMKC too) Imagine for a second, less notes, more powerful lead sound for solos with sustain and improvising solos you could almost sing listening back, how rad would that be? (oh wait exactly what he did in the 90's!! ahaha) I also agree, and I think I wrote this here before in another thread, up until both Snakepit albums he still had it, (Doin' Fine...!!!), and a few songs from his 1st solo album.
  7. Exactly! Rhythm sound/gain is ok (although his rhythm playing is even sometime rushed too LOL ) But yeah the lead sound is weak, just not enough sustain, way too many notes. I'm glad at least a 2nd person on this earth thinks the same as I do! Let me guess, you're a guitarist too by any chance? if so, then it may be guitarist thing to notice/feel this kind of things I guess... ahahaha!
  8. I also agree unfortunately. I said it before and will say it again especially after being front row the Paris gig. I love Slash, but his amp sound is terrible/weak (and at this point I would even say his amp sound "choice" because Fortus's sound is crystal clean, way much more appropriate so this is not a sound stage mix issue) and his playing is always rushed, not in the pocket, and why so many notes/wanking the neck for hours?!! Less is more man! (oh and the fuzz pedal now constantly on during solos, wtf!!! sustain from his amp is so weak, that he needs this awful fuzz?!) His playing and improvisation used to be so tasteful... When Richard Fortus plays a few solos, his technique, sound, is putting Slash's to shame. You would think after touring with a guy like Fortus, Slash would step up (sort of emulation, in a good way) but I dont see that at all. Front row at Paris confirmed exactly what I have been hearing online for years now, something with Slash's guitar sound and playing is up... (and this is not a general sound stage/mix issue, just listen to Fortus sound, no issue there) This may come across like I'm a 4US fanboy (and I do like what he plays for GNR, as guitarist I have to acknowledge his great musicianship), but I'm a huge (is there a bigger word ?) Slash fan, so come on man, do something! I'll upload the Paris Coma solo, which, although not perfect, wasn't too bad all things considered.
  9. I don’t know about you guys, but personally apart from the Glastonbury litho (the cameos were fun to search ) I am absolutely underwhelmed by all the lithos so far in 2023. Maybe it’s just not my style, but they are all very similar in term of artistic direction. Going to Paris on Thursday and I’m not holding my breath for a great design LOL
  10. I unfortunately totally agree with the above, and this is coming from someone who absolutely love the guy, started the guitar the 32 years ago because of him (hell he even signed and offered our wedding gift) But after both snakepit album, both his guitar tone and playing are going in a direction that isn’t the best. I have a zillion of bootlegs from the UYI tours, and for the sake of simplicity I will use Tokyo 92 as a reference point, as it showcases a powerful Marshall tone, solos on time and improvisations that you could almost whistle/play years later, as they were melodic. These days, the sound/tone isn’t great at all (what’s up with the use of a nasal fuzz on all solos now ?!?), never use a clean channel anymore for clean parts (and trust me I’m all for using your volume knob as much as possible, but here, when you hear the intro of Paradise that is so dirty… come on! His tech is already pushing of knobs, might as well switch to a real clean channel) and now his playing (and to a certain extent his attitude on stage too): almost all solos aren’t on time, it’s like he has a delay in his in-ears monitors! Of course you can always play with the tempo, a bit behind or just before, all good as long you’re in the pocket. But now? We’re clearly past this stage… and the solos/improvisations: used to be so melodic improvisations (like I mentioned above), less notes, articulate, almost as if they were written improvisation as they were so good. Now it’s just wanking the neck, and play a millions uninspired notes (for 15 min at times…) and that’s it… And finally the attitude, at Glastonbury noticeably, but I have seen this before, he looks bored, very few interactions and smiles. I know coming from a divorce, splashing crazy amount of money to Perla each month, the reunion offer was too good to turn it down, but I sincerely he hasn’t done all this only for the bad reason ($$$$) Again this is coming from someone who loves Slash, worships him, and respects the guy like no other. But this has concerned me a lot for years, and there’s no signs of improvement unfortunately. at least we have the old bootlegs and videos from the past ahahah!
