To be honest I’ve just realised it only says “Nightrain Live” CD… Not exactly “Live Selects” or “NITL Live Selects”.

What are the chances the track list is literally just Nightrain live? 😅

    50% it’s just Nightrain

48% it’s a compilation of the live tracks from the singles

2% It’s a handful of NITL Selects EP

It was going to be featured with the newer lineup for Black Hawk Down but the original guys might have challenged it because they would have lost out on royalties. Falling to Pieces by Faith No More was used where WTTJ would have been.

The 3 of them had to agree on rights when their music is synched to video. It’s why none of them could release GNR songs on their own dvds/videos for years. It probably stemmed from this incident

If my ears are correct, the piano was in standard tuning, whereas Axl usually plays this song in e-flat (like most GnR songs since 1986). So that probably also added to the difficulty.

Yes, it’s normally tuned a half step down. November Rain (until the end) is in the key of C. Pitch wise we hear this as if it’s in B(Cb)

Pianos are always in standard tuning.

Not necessarily. Pretty sure it’s always been digital and always been played as if it’s in C major

It would be a good decision for the money, but I'd feel like the band would fall deeper into the nostalgic pit. I'm a CD-era fan so I'd prefer a Buckethead, Brain, and Robin return :D

Obviously, but that’s kind of where they’re at now anyways. Even if they end up releasing an album

I think Bucket ship has unfortunately sailed. Is he even touring? I know he’s had some health issues and was selling gear

  5. They could have gotten Izzy on board for a run of shows and paid him

I think they also know that it was chip that didn’t need to be cashed yet. They could go out with the 3 of them and the $ would be the same

An AFD 5 reunion or w Matt/Gilby etc.. is something they can still cash in on. That way you can go for the big payday twice

The partnership rumors and such is something else entirely. Izzy left and got bought out 30 yrs ago. You can’t expect to get reinstated unless you at least buy back in at the current value. Does he want just a cut? Does he want voting power?

They also could have tweeted hey, we’ve briefly thought about a lawsuit (actually, mainly our management team has), but then we said fuck it, the best thing is to just say 'folks, we’re not associated with this business whatsoever; please share this btw, it will spread.' Just like that.

(Had a few. Does it show yet?)

That’s not how these things work. It sets precedent for other businesses to do the same. Where’s the line? You can’t just pick and choose when to enforce. You either do or don’t

I’m sure lawyers already sent multiple cease and desist notices and the store is being difficult about it. The business is now attempting to use the situation to their benefit here by playing victim and garner public and local support to sell product. They are not innocent in this

Ultimately they will eventually comply. It will be too costly to fight. In the meantime, they will be vocal and annoying about it and drum up political discussion about gun rights. Gross behavior to make a buck imo

One time, someone's comment somewhere caught my eye about Izzy's comeback to the band.

This person said: what was said to the public, was different from what's been goin gon behind the scenes. Izzy was demanding his % of record roaylties back, that he sold to Axl when he left the band in 1991.  (ps. From what I remember that was Iz's idea? right?). This person also said: Izzy isnt willing to buy them back either. He wants them for free.

Maybe it's just another speculation, but this version could be true also.

    What do you think ?

Izzy has gotten royalties from record sales and publishing this entire time. Same as Steven

What you are alluding to is the partnership between Axl Slash and Duff that has been active throughout the years. They make decisions and $ off of branding, merch sales, synch rights such as commercials/movies, etc…

No one here knows the specific details as to what Izzy wanted outside of splitting the loot and more importantly what the band was even willing to negotiate

As far as an original 5 reunion, you can look at it as a chip they haven’t cashed in on yet. Could they have done it 2016? Sure. Turns out for the 3 of them, they didn’t need to use that chip yet. It just means there’s another big pay day for all involved if they want to go down that road at some point

An RSD release would be too limited. It would leave many fans short changed and/or buying from gougers on eBay. I am hoping Paris 92 will be released as a 2CD/BD package in the not too distant future. I also hope for official CD releases of Wembley '91 and Rio '91 (both nights).  If the pro-shot video for the '91 shows is in good shape, release that too! Many serious fans of the "1987-1993 Golden Era" will buy any official live recordings from this period.

Just because something is a RSD release, it doesn’t make it limited. There are tons of releases that are done in high numbers. It can even be re-released later on a different color vinyl to get around the exclusivity

It’s just a good avenue to release a full live show and it doesn’t have to conflict with any future plans with the way it’s presented.

It’s all futile anyways. This is GNR we’re talking about

  9. “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.” - Hunter S Thompson

Seems like Alan Niven is not short of opinion and is never shy to boast about how critical his involvement was to the band’s success over 30 years ago. Is it ego? Is it to further his current interests? Is it to try and return to the good graces of a multi million dollar machine?

Whatever it is it’s self serving. It’s pretty apparent that no one involved on a business level with that band cared for the individual well being of anyone there at the time. Whether it was severe drug and alcohol abuse or the mental capacity to handle a world tour.

They all wanted to squeeze every cent from the situation before it imploded or someone died.

DJ’s playing was great on the first Beautiful Creatures album. Not sure what happened after that.

DJ is a competent player. Live music isn’t perfect. He’s just not on the level of Fortus and Rob. That’s partly why his playing sticks out in that situation

  11. I assumed at the time that he was brought to help write due to his successful collaborations with Crue and Sixx AM

Of course that didn’t happen and Ashba was up on stage on an endless tour sharing too much of the lead responsibilities. Not a good spot when your playing is being compared to Fortus and Ron nightly, let alone the other one missing in the top hat. He’s certainly serviceable live in certain situations but he’s just not on that level to handle that material alongside those musicians and it showed

One big thing was the legal conundrum with Irving Azoff. Axl sued in May 2010 and settled in June 2011. Irv wielded power at Ticketmaster and LiveNation (just merged at the time). That meant Guns could only play clubs and festivals stateside while the proceedings went on. I think they had to make a deal about a certain amount of US dates, with a certain amount of those proceeds going to Azoff.

Forced Axl isn't what you call a happy one.

They weren’t playing bigger venues because of any lingering issues with Azoff. That’s just what they were drawing and what was available to them after two US tours that were ended prematurely

  13. For the longest time the set consisted of only November Rain, You Could Be Mine and the two covers from UYI. Otherwise it was very AFD heavy with some CD. Also those two UYI songs also originated from the AFD period

It’s possible he just associated much of that material with what was happening personally at the time. Or maybe he wasn’t happy with how those songs turned out. Or the critics at the time. Or a combination of things. Fact is that they never touched those songs for years

Thankfully that stance has changed. If you told us in 2002-2006 that Slash was back and they were performing Coma and Estranged again, it would have blown our minds

  14. The production suffers because you have major parts rewritten over vocals that were recorded & already needlessly tinkered with over 20 years ago. Those takes go with pretty much a completely different song. It’s going to be disjointing at its core. There’s only so much you can do production wise to make it sound cohesive on top of that base. Then you are also trying to get Slash/Duff to stand out with their own sound. The mastering is something different all together

Ideally, these reworked songs should have been completely redone. Rehearsed, banged out over a few weeks and recorded from the drums up. However, since Guns is now footing the bill under their own label, they are going cheap. That’s on top of the task of trying to get Axl to lay down vocals

  15. It’s probably because Slash didn’t pick him or had a say with his involvement and less to do with his guitar playing. Temporary or not, it wasn’t goin to vibe because of the back and forth relationship/lack of communication with Axl at the time. Paul was an extension of Axl and his relationship with him/frustrations with the band, so that’s how he related to him

Exactly. And if someone says they can't find GNR's new single, they'll say it hasn't been released yet because they can't find it either. They're not thinking it's a trick to find out if there actually is such a song. They just believe the customer asking about a new single.

And no one cares about how their algorithm works. Why would they? It's only an issue for us GNR nerds/lunatics.

This. Customer Support has no info on songs sitting in the database. Nor do they understand the inner workings of the site. Anything technical that’s an issue from the consumer end gets passed along as a work ticket. They are there to handle payment issues, how to work the app, and pass along anything that’s not working correctly
