  1. I like Chinese Democracy more. But Slash has been like...way more successful. Commercially speaking. Seek the digits. Contraband did like 4 million in the States. Chinese Democracy, hyped on 10 years and 14 million - sold shit. At least in the States.

I don't know. I guess it could have sold 10 million copies in Uruguay.

Contraband did nowhere near 4 million - it did half that, is currently at 2x platinum, and that was released in 2004. Record sales have been dropping since then. Worldwide CD outsold it (VR was more of a US thing).

Sorry the anal numbers guy twitched at the 4 million claim.

  2. If it hasn't been settled it will be. The title of this thread is *really* misleading. They were sued over a clip of ambient noise. It's like copyrighting a few seconds of static recorded off a snowy TV and then suing anyone who uses it. Sure. It's yours. But don't make a big deal over it. In the end the guy will get a few bucks, but this was one of those things where someone likely didn't clear it (since the samples in Madagascar were obviously paid for).

  3. When the band was getting trashed in the press, the fans were quick to defend them, as in 2002... Now they're getting positive reviews and "fans" are bitching and moaning.

Really, did you all expect new songs in NYC? What gave you that idea, other than something you made up in your head? Keep in mind that since there was no MSG date these shows really replace that. It's like a continuation of the tour.

And I wouldn't expect new music til after the summer either. Man, you'd think after 14 years for CD, 5 or 6 years of actively touring wouldn't bother you. I'm still waiting for a new Tool CD since 2006. I saw them live last month for the second time since 10,000 Days came out... No album in sight. And they play a 90 minute show, which while excellent musically, is nowhere near what GN'R puts in with close to 3 hour gigs.

So... Chill the fuck out already. Let the band do its thing. They're active, getting good reviews, doing press... Be happy it's not like the pre-CD era.

  4. Thoughts on the show:

The Pretty Reckless is the best opener I've personally seen with GNR, but I also loved the suicide girls and I'm not a Baz fan. I'm also a redblooded male and Taylor is smoking. Took my significant other and she's bi and enjoyed Taylor as well but that said - the girl can fucking sing. I actually already knew Make Me Wanna Die, liked Zombie and their Audioslave and White Stripes covers.

Guns fucking surprised me by being early, we were in line for the bathroom when the lights went out and got on the floor just in time.

This is the seventh time I've seen Guns and the tightest I've seen them, the chemistry is really there now; they need to write, need to record, and tour the fuck out of some new stuff after this.

Highlights for me: Estranged, You Could Be Mine, Don't Cry, This I Love. Street of Dreams, which oddly I was never a big fan of, stood out for me last night and the crowd probably new it best of the new songs as it used to get decent airplay on Y108.

Axl didn't talk too much just did his thing and his voice was on the whole night. Pretty much everyone stayed right through to PC. Encore had Madagascar, Better, Patience, and Paradise City.

The other standout was DJ's solo, fucking hell record that!

Like 2010 they tarped off the upper level, lower and floor were pretty packed.

  5. Hamilton show lower bowl regular $103.25 each with tax now on sale for $58.50 each

so how does that work if you paid 103.25? you get the difference back? i'm guessing not!

even then you still get a thousand dollar show!

Oh you'd better believe not ;)

  6. I'm close minded because I don't want my favorite band, a rock n roll band, to make an electronica album. OK.

Your favorite band doesn't exist in reality. The two main lead guitarists on CD are gone and the present touring band has no new music. Axl Rose is a director and GNR is the name of his recording company.

Several members of the band have said they do have new stuff written, how close it is to being finished is another story.

In answer to the thread - I hope it sounds like Guns N' Roses. Chinese Democracy sounded a lot like Use Your Illusion 3 to me. I'm cool with that. I don't mind a few industrial songs but in the end I just want it to sound like Guns. I think that's where CD was most successful - aside from a few tracks, most of it fits right in. I did a mix of songs the other day and There Was a Time and Catcher in the Rye and Madagascar and This I Love sounded great with Don't Cry, Estranged, November Rain, etc.

  7. The tour was to be 30 dates, and 30 dates are now announced. Unless they add more dates/a 2nd leg, Phoenix won't get a date.

P.s. Any law that allows you to be stopped randomly without cause is unjust. As a white guy who has lived abroad - I'd be pissed if I was profiled because I "might" be illegal. It's racial profiling and if you think otherwise go out and get some experience in the world.
