Suggest Some Grunge

december pain

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, my brother bought me "Nevermind" for my birthday. The same way that this album helped launch the grunge movement in the 90's, it is now doing to me. I am hooked on Nevermind, and really starting to dig Nirvana as a whole.

Anyways, I was just wondering where I should go from here? What grunge albums should I look into? What should I stay clear of?

I would love to hear some suggestions of cool grunge albums from:

Pearl Jam

Nirvana

Stone Temple Pilots

and anyone else...

I have heard a little of Alice In Chains and it was kind of "meh" to me.

But yeah, grunge. What do you recommend?

Stone Temple Pilots - Core

Stone Temple Pilots - Purple

Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

Soundgarden - Superunknown

Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff

Pearl Jam - Ten (took me a while to get into this one)

and don't forget In Utero or Bleach for Nirvana.

Every Pearl Jam album, really, best grunge band back in the days, and far more than an average grunge band now.

"Temple of the dog" and Mad Seasons "Above" are also two really cool group-efforts of Grunge musicians.

Alice in Chains is the most heavy grunge group imo, but also cool, especially their "Unplugged" album.

I don't see why people love Pearl Jam so much...Vedder is very very average.

Vedder is sublime on every concievable level.

People who haven't been mentioned - Screaming Trees, Green River, Mudhoney, early Afghan Whigs, Tad.

Plus check out the Singles soundtrack. And the soundtrack to the grunge era documentary Hype (which is worth seeing too).

Silverchair - Frogstomp

Puddle Of Mudd - Come Clean

All Creed albums

last 3 Nickelback albums

all Three Days Grace albums

3 Doors Down - The Better Life

Staind - Dysfunction

Staind - Break The Cycle

Hinder - Extreme Behaviour

Your taste in music makes my blood run cold. No offense. :P

I never could get into PJ much either, maybe it was Vedder's vocals. Ten is a classic but aside from that I didn't really venture into their other albums.

I was always an AIC/Soundgarden kinda guy... B)

Nevermind

Ten

Dirt

Superunknown

In Utero

Those are must-buys. Temple of the Dog is also awesome.

His voice is so boring.

That said, I don't mind listening to them...as I mentioned, the band itself are pretty awesome.

Burn all of the albums you just mentioned, go straight down to the nearest record store and buy Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness, Siamese Dream and Zeitgeist, all by Smashing Pumpkins. Then I suggest you have a long chat with Lithium about real music and write down as many albums as he can mention. We really must sort you out
