:anger: :anger: :anger:

here's what i have:

1 pc with wireless capability. connected to that via ethernet cable is a wireless router.

1 laptop with wireless capability.

now how do i set it up so i get the pc and the laptop communicating ie. transfer files and shit?

i've tried the wireless network setup wizard thingy but that failed.

but when i set the router up, a wireless network appeared. and both the pc and the laptop are able to connect to that. but as far as accessing files on the other computer, no luck.

so i'm kinda stuck.

btw, both pc and laptop os is windows xp pro service pack 2. and the wireless thingy is 802.11g

I've got a wireless network set up (2 Laptops and a desktop), but it's totally unsecure and I think someones been stealing my internet for a long long time. How do I secure it? I looked it up but it was all too complicated for me...

WPA-PSK (no server) is typically used for a Home Network.

1. From the “Security Mode” drop-down menu, select “WPA-PSK (no server)”.

2. For Encryption Technique, select “TKIP” or “AES”. This setting will have to be identical on the clients that you set up.

3. Enter your pre-shared key. This can be from 8 to 63 characters and can be letters, numbers, or symbols or spaces. This same key must be used on all of the clients that you set up. For example, your PSK might be something like: “Smith family network key”.

4. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. You must now set all clients to match these settings.

Edit: You do know how to get into the router-settings, right?

I've got a question for wireless networking

I've got a belkin router

and a belkin adaptor

both on pc's both with windows xp

1) would you use the belkin utility to run the wireless network or would you let windows run the network?

I am having a terrible time getting things to work properly.

2) How do I find out the 'computer names' ?

I let Windows do it. The utilities are just another application running in the background for no reason.

To find the computer name, right click My computer > Properties > Computer name
