Velvet Revolver Singer Scott Weiland Returns To Rehab

Band's Thursday show has been postponed, but treatment won't derail rockers' upcoming tour plans.

By Chris Harris

Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland — who has long battled drug and alcohol addiction — went back to rehab Wednesday night after their gig at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, according to the band's publicist.

"Weiland voluntarily entered a rehab facility" following the group's performance, reads a statement provided to MTV News. "[Thursday's] San Diego show at the House of Blues has been postponed; the rescheduled date for San Diego is TBA. Velvet Revolver deeply apologize to their fans and thank them for sticking by the group."

The statement did not disclose which facility Weiland had entered or for which substance the singer was seeking treatment. According to a source close to the band, Weiland's rehab stay is not expected to affect its future touring plans.

But the move could potentially stand in the way of a much-rumored reunion of the Stone Temple Pilots. Sources who asked to remain anonymous had told MTV News that the band would be revived this summer for a one-off reunion tour of the U.S., but the band and its representatives have yet to confirm the trek. According to sources, negotiations are still ongoing and venues have been reserved throughout the country for the jaunt, with label reps and managers actively trying to secure their bands opening slots on the proposed run.

This latest development in the Weiland saga comes on the heels of a rather turbulent fall for the former Stone Temple Pilot. Weiland was arrested on November 21 after crashing his car on a Los Angeles highway. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs with a prior conviction, and police claimed he refused to submit to a chemical test, which is mandated by law.

Weiland has been arrested numerous times over the past decade, for a variety of drug-related offenses in both California and New York, spending time in jail for some of his crimes. In 2003, Weiland was arrested in Hollywood following a traffic accident, and was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Those charges were eventually dropped on the condition that the troubled singer successfully complete a drug-rehab program and submit to random drug testing.

Back in 1995, Weiland was caught and convicted of buying crack cocaine and sentenced to one year of probation. In late 1999, Weiland was sentenced to spend one year in a recovery center in Los Angeles County Jail after violating the probation he was serving for a 1997 arrest on heroin possession charges. In late 2001, he was booked on domestic-violence charges in Las Vegas, but those charges were eventually dismissed when he agreed to attend counseling sessions with his wife.
