I saw that auction and laughed - there must be some shill bidding on that. the guy selling it probably ended up as the highest bidder.

Well actually, I am currently the high bidder. Just kidding! Belated April Fool's joke there. But the auction is still going. I fell you are right though - either the person is doing it themselves (which I never understood - you will have to pay the eBay fees), or, if it is a real bidder, the seller will never see a dime of that bid.

Makes it harder to notice shall bidding on auctions

Yes I agree, although Im not quite sure what the purpose of it is?

the purpose is to increase the price of the item so the seller makes more money

basically the seller uses another ebay account to bid on their own item

Sometimes it backfires on the seller though if they end up buying their own item

Shill bidders aren't necessarily screwed if they end up being the high bidder, they can simply offer a 2nd chance to the highest legit bid, if they accept, presto.
