Ant
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins is a classic as much as Oasis stuff is. Does Urban Hymns by the Verve qualify as rock? That album is a classic through and through as well.So that's 1995 and 1997?And I agree with those who put Definitely Maybe ahead of WTS:MG. It's close, but DM just eeks it out. Plus, the production of Morning Glory sucks! It's totally muddy and distorted, and is one of the first examples of the "loudness war." I think Contraband was a really good moment for rock, and Songs for the Deaf was pretty sweet too, but I think the fact that rock has been dead at the time they were released makes them look somewhat better than they may actually be.The White Stripes might have a classic album, but I wouldn't know. Californication is also kind of close -- decent amount of filler, though.Edit: Oh LEARNING PROCESS beat me on Urban Hymns -- now I have an e-crush on him; love that album! Edit2: Oh and I thought Morning Glory came out in '94, but it was '95, so pretty much at the same time as Mellon Collie. Damn...That whole post-grunge mid-late 90's alternative scene has to have a few classic albums, doesn't it? Big Boy Sixxx
never liked oasis, aint heavy enough, theres no real swagger about it and its just a bit pansy ass. and they get worse with every album, its going slowly down hill. but theyre obviously a good band, just not my barrel o' beer

Bucketslash
Morning Glory is truly amazing, but since then, I gotta give elephant by the white stripes, and Audioslave's Revelationseven if you don't think their as good as morning glory, their still great albums, elephant being undeniably raw in it's production(being that there's only 2 members of the white stripes) and revelations being powerful as an ultra refined beast, like a trained killer in sheer powerDinosaur Jr.'s beyond is also high up there! SunnyDRE
I know noone will agree with me, but I believe PJ Harvey's, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, is the last "Great" rock record. It is one of those albums (ala Thriller, The Joshua Tree), were even if you don't like the artist or genre, its hard not to find something on the album you don't love.It appeals to everyone.JMO
