In Flames- A Sense Of Purpose

Hey to all the board's In Flames fans or to anyone who wants to give the giants of Gothenburg Death Metal a try, give a listen to their latest opus "A Sense Of Purpose" and share your opinions here. I think it's very far removed from their folk influenced roots and progresses yet further along the path In Flames chose with 2001's "Reroute To Remain" however over the past two albums they have worked on a fusion of these styles producing some of their finest material such as March To The Shore the album's epic closer which sees the triumphant return of Anders Friden's brilliant death growl. A masterclass in making a modern metal album.

Death metal in general is utter crap.

Anyone that growls or screams his way through a song is a fool wasting capability's.

growling is such a load of shit

Please do not talk about what you obviously don't know about.

On topic: I don't like In Flames, sorry.

hey dumbass.

I have a fried who's a die hard fan of death metal from bands like Insomnium to kalmah.

I know what the fuck im talking about , and growling is infatc shit.

Up yours.

I find it quite funny how you write off an entire genre just because a lot of the time melodic singing is not used. I'm not a death metal die hard by any stretch of the imagination. I love In Flames, Children of Bodom and Blood Stain Child.

As for growling being "Shit" you're perfectly entitled to think that but the truth is it's a perfect medium for getting across certain emotions and no less legitimate than falsetto or indeed any other vocal technique, it's just another noise that comes out of the human mouth and therefore vocalists have every right to use it. Aside from being a talented growler/screamer Anders is an exceptional melodic singer as well and this balance of talents makes it perfect for him to express virtually any emotion.

Not liking their music's fine as it is with any band's but denying they're musically talented is ridiculous.

Haha so just because you have a friend who likes Death Metal that makes you an expert on the subtleties of growling? That's ridiculous. You don't have to like growling, but fuck off if you think it takes no talent or skill, I'd like to see you try and do it. Jackass.

Plus most melodeath bands (normal death metal is pretty lame), are amazing musicians.

I am a huge fan. I thought Sense was pretty good at first but then listened to Come Clarity for the first time in a while and I think CC is must better. I am one of the few who love Reroute to Remain as well. The diehards always want to hear them put out an album like Jester's Race again--- but if i want to hear the Jester's Race again--- I'll just listen to the Jester's Race again. Love Luner Strain and Subterrainum as well as Colony and Clayman. Whoracle is one of my least favorites but I really can't say it's a bad album ---- As for the vocals Clayman was my first album and it took a while for me to get used to them---now I love them----on the latter albums it's more like Brian Johnson for AC/DC with a little more kick IMHO

Together with clayman, Reroute to remain is my favorite In Flames album. I havent gotten to hear the new album yet though.

Regarding all the pro death metal/hate death metal discussion here, In Flames really isn't a Death Metal band anyway.

I thought ASOP was a lot more varied than CC although CC's highlights were better than ASOP's, Come Clarity and especially crawl Through Knives are some of the best tracks they've put out.

I do however think that the Jester Race is one of the finest albums ever made. i was delighted to hear Anders use some of his Jester Race style deep roars on ASOP, I don't think there can ever be enough of that in In Flames. I'd say I never got into Reroute as much as I did everything else they've put out. What I do love from that tends to be the experimental tracks "Dawn of A New Day" and "Metaphor" but then I love the softer side of In Flames. Trigger is undeniaby fantastic though.

Ah, hell I like everything they've ever done. They are just fantastic.
