Mr_Oujamaflip Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 They're a more objective account on the King Arthur legend. Certain changes make the books a lot more believable than most Arthurian legends, less basis on magic, in the book some see it as coincidence, some as magic, it's got the typical Cornwell epic battle scenes and plenty of blood and guts too. It's set around 500CE with the Saxons taking over Britain, the Christians taking over Pagansim etc. IMO his best work. Really is very, very good, what he did to Lancelot is awesome as well. Quote
Graeme Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I've been on a James Bond binge, in the past three weeks i've read:Devil May Care (New Bond written by Sebastian Faulks)Hurricane Gold (One of Charlie Higson's excellently written Young Bond novels)MoonrakerGoldfingerYou Only Live TwiceDiamonds Are ForeverAwesome. Over the last few weeks I've read Dr. No, Casino Royale and Goldfinger. Also got the new one given to me, is it any good? I love the Bond books, I'll have to get my hands on some more. Maybe I'll even join a library !I need other books though apart from them, I've run seriously dry.Devil may Care? It's a good read. The villain's deformity is a little unbelievable but I liked the setting and it definitely felt like a Bond novel, I hope faulks does another one. Quote

Alty Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I know what you should read!!Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel Garcia MarquezI think you'd enjoy it... Divorcing Jack by Colin Bateman is an old favourite, and a light read. And Perfume if you haven't already, also an old favourite.Virgin Suicides is actually good, which might be a shock if you've seen the movie of it. Awful. But I read it the other week and got pretty engrossed in it.Try some Bertolt Brecht.Orrrrrr I read a book by Neil Gaimen & Terry Pratchett (no really) called Good Omens which was pretty hilarious. Justagroupie Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Currently halfway done with The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Very fascinating read, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the science of logic- incorporated into a narrative (or essay) discussing several random occurences (from a historical standpoint) and somehow merging it into a very philosophical and intellectually stimulating book. steveysham Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Stephen King's Misery. Thomas Harris Hannibal, Hannibal Rising or Silence of the Lambs. Red Dragon is good also but just not as strong as the others in my opinion. I'm reading Phantom of The Opera at the moment and it's pretty good. Charles Dickens is always a good read, I recommend Great Expectations. Quote
