Estranged Reality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsPLOLizv5o You know, the song has solid lyrics and a good main hook (the chorus) - but the problem is, that's all it has. The production is awful, and it's just the chorus over and over again. It gets stuck in your head, but not in a good way... it's like some kind of wannabe OneRepublic/Robin Thicke/Justin Timberlake hybrid.I previewed some other studio tracks on YouTube, and this track is by far the best song on the whole album. Which is pretty sad. To quote a certain movie character: "I mean, what happened?! Did your balls drop off?" Dead Flower
Truth be told, I kinda like it. Hard to believe it's the same guy from Badmotorfinger, though. And what a great video. Chris Cornell is physical perfection.I didn't realise the album was so far advanced. I'm gonna check out some other stuff.
Turn_It_Up
Glad DF came clean first--gotta confess, kinda like it. Does stick in your head. But I don't want a whole album of this and ER's report that this may be the best track was/is my big fear.So pretty catchy track, but do we really need Chris Cornell doing this with the rest of his career? Get SG back together or join VR for cryin' out loud. He could always pump these types of solo albums out on the side, shouldn't be the main course for someone of his caliber. Bottom line is, just think he doesn't want a band the way Izzy doesn't want a lead singer. Too bad for everyone...
Estranged Reality
Truth be told, I kinda like it.I like the lyrics and the chorus, but I think the intro is terrible and the production overall really mediocre. But it's just too long! The chorus is good, but it should have been done only a handful of times. The 12th time or so it kinda loses the impact... it sticks in your head, but by then it's kind of annoying. Dead Flower
Is the Timbaland sound not you cup of tea?I wonder if Chris has a quest to get back to the top of the charts? Maybe sales of his last solo album have made him abandon his testicles?
Estranged Reality
Is the Timbaland sound not you cup of tea?The sad/interesting thing is, I was reading an interview with him yesterday where he said Timbaland was the one pulling him back to rock on the new album. He had to convince Timbaland to add more more hip-hop synths and let him go all out. That's probably not a very good sign, when one of the industry's biggest r&b/hip-hop producers is telling you to add more rock to your music. Oh well. It can't get much worse than the last album, anyway. The only good song on it was the James Bond theme.

Watch OutGround ZeroScream (title track)Never Far AwayThanks man for the extra tracks. Was almost laughing listening to "Watch Out" as not sure if it's somehow really good or if it's as bad as I think it is."Ground Zero", no laughing as I know it's as bad as I think it is."Scream" I couldn't listen to anymore after about 40 seconds. I threw one of my computers out the fuckin' window. So pissed by the time I got to "Never Far Away" have no idea what to think about this track. This is the most embarrassing, over-produced shit for someone of his talent I can recall. One review called this album his mid-life crisis and hope that's true and he wakes up after this. How the fuck is he gonna perform this stuff live--fans will either be laughing or throwing shit onstage like with The Blues Brothers. Glad I caught him last time around.Seriously, to think I was quibbling with the solo on Shackler's Revenge earlier today. Say what you want about New Guns, but even the worst of the material does seem like AFD 2 compared to this shit.Axl, release your album, CC is doing you the biggest favor here. Take advantage... Dead Flower
Hmm, there's some interesting stuff on those tracks. But they all seem to be very repetitive.I am intrigued, though. I will listen to more and let it all soak in before I decide whether this album was a brave move, a desperate move, or a fucked in the head move. Randy Lahey
Chris should ask Axl if he can borrow If The World. Chris just doesn't cut it as a solo artist for some reason. I thought he'd do fine because he wrote most of Soundgardens best songs but his solo albums are terrible. He's like Richard Ashcroft. Great singer, great songwriter, but for whatever reason he just doesn't cut it as a solo artist. Ant
Man... and I thought No Such Thing was a bad song, relative to Soundgarden... I don't even know how to evaluate whatever the hell this stuff is. Big thumbs down mista CC!
wasted
He's sort of beaten the corpse of Soundgarden into the ground, this sounds...funky?Is he gonna join VR? Edited August 20, 2008 by wasted

LEARNING PROCESS
Long Gone and Never Far Away are cool.Ground Zero and Watch Out ( especially the latter) suck unbelievably.Scream has good vocal melody, otherwise crap. LEARNING PROCESS
One thing is certain. After hearing all these shitty beats, my (already significant) respect for Pittman has gone up a few notches.
Mr_Oujamaflip
This thread desperately needs some Lookin' California. That's a chainsaw riff!Totally, it's not like he couldn't sing these any more either. It's the more vocally heavy stuff like Smokestack Lightning, Jesus Christ Pose and Slaves and Bulldozers he has trouble with. This is mellow for his older stuff and yet it's awesome. Marky
I saw him at Hyde Park last year (The Aerosmith gig), and he did quite a few Soundgarden songs and one or two from Audioslave too, but his solo stuff was nothing in comparison. Turn_It_Up
Man... and I thought No Such Thing was a bad song, relative to Soundgarden... I don't even know how to evaluate whatever the hell this stuff is. Yeah, "Carry On" sounding better and better after hearing some of this new material. Hopefully he's got a couple killer tracks we haven't heard yet, but hard to imagine him mixing in any rock on this record.CC needs to either declare himself a proud member of the Socialist Party and crawl back to Morello...or the SG guys need to do an intervention. Quick. Here's his Stern interview from mid-07 around the time Carry On was released(includes acoustic Black Hole Sun). He pretty much admits that the initial rumors after the AS breakup, that he was tired of writing all the songs and splitting the profits, were true. Though probably lots of other stuff involved: http://www.zshare.net/audio/2429007da1745aIMO, there was way too much whining that AS and VR weren't as good as as SG and GNR. That may be true, but Cornell with Rage and SW with the Gunners made 2 damn cool supergroups that filled a major void in the rock scene. We had it good when both were around...
