Estranged Reality
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/genera...in_is_crap.htmlJack Bruce, the bassist and lead singer of Cream, had some harsh words about Led Zeppelin following news of a possible reunion. Harsh words considering the original question was about Cream possibly reuniting again like they did in 2005.In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Bruce had this to say about Led Zeppelin, "Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig – one fucking lame gig – while Cream did weeks of gigs; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys. [becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they’ve sold. Cream is ten times the band that Led Zeppelin is."He later added, "What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that?"Bruce later recanted his statements (well, sort of) on 94.7 WCSX, a Detroit radio station, saying, "I was just having some fun with the press gallery really…being fairly tongue in cheek. The thing about Zeppelin is obviously it's a little bit of jealousy on my part, or more than a little bit because the audience was created by Cream and Jimi Hendrix… his sort of very large audience…then Zeppelin came along and had a very easy ride in that way. We were the pioneers and pioneers don’t always get the recognition they deserve. On the other hand, let’s face it: Jimmy Page ain’t no Eric Clapton...no matter what anybody thinks." He adds, "The only decent guy…the one good guy in that band is dead…so what are you gonna do? The trouble is if you say anything about the establishment...in Britain you mustn’t criticise Queen or Led Zeppelin."
FunkyMonk
Spot on though, Cream > Zeppelin any day of the week.

gabrielsevenn7
Wow. Led Zeppelin? Crap? I understand not liking a band......but Led Zeppelin? Crap? I think I disagree with this guy.
KBear
Wow, could a guy be more jealous and bitter? Cream may have been pioneers but they didn't get the recognition of Zeppelin because Zeppelin did it better. Don't be such a little suck, Jack Bruce. Randy Lahey
Eric Clapton has played some cool shit but I'd take Page any day of the week. Jack Bruce is just a bitter old man. A lot of the old timers hate Zeppelin because they made so much money and have obtained all time legend status. Sure, Zeppelin ripped a lot of people off but nobody sounded like Zeppelin before Zeppelin. Edited November 7, 2008 by Randy Lahey
Shuffle
Seriously, why do people care? He's entitled to his opinion but it doesn't really matter... Personally I prefer Led Zeppelin over Cream but that doesn't mean I give a fuck what Jack Bruce thinks, I wouldn't care if he said that Zeppelin was far better than Cream either. mr. orangestone
What a bitter, jealous old man. He's just pissed because Zeppelin's songs are 20 times better. He sticks up for Clapton, correct me if I'm wrong, but Cream broke up because Clapton was tired of their music and didn't like it anymore. Their own lead guitarist disliked them. moreblack
That was a good laugh, it's fine. I'm sure the opinion of Jack Bruce matters to Led Zeppelin about as much as the opinion of Rolling Stone magazine did back in the day.He sounds bitter that Cream played I don't know how many reunion gigs and they didn't come close to the awesomeness and high profile of one single Led Zeppelin reunion show. But apparently even his old bandmates can't stand him:In an interview regarding the release of a DVD of Blind Faith's 1969 performance in Hyde Park, Baker commented to the United Kingdom-based magazine Music Mart about his unwillingness to continue the Cream reunion. These comments were far more specific and explosive than Clapton's; his reasons stemmed from Jack Bruce's behaviour at the Madison Square Garden performances: "When he's Dr. Jekyll, he's fine... It's when he's Mr. Hyde that he's not. And I'm afraid he's still the same. I tell you this - there won't ever be any more Cream gigs, because he did Mr. Hyde in New York last year." Rifles N' Tulips
In my opinion Cream>Led Zep and Clapton>Jimmy Page, but Jack's definately too harsh. Edited November 7, 2008 by Rifles N' Tulips
murray_TH
I do agree with the part about Clapton vs. Page.Meh.I love Cream, but they have never made any records that blew me away.As for a Zep reunion... I wish they'd just leave it alone. Edited November 7, 2008 by murray_TH
DirtyDeeds
Booooo hoooo, my band had three mediocre songs but we are legends God damnit! PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEEEEEE!MEEEE MEEEE MEEEE!!!!!!!! STOP LISTENING TO THAT FUCKING LED ZEPPELIN!!!! STOP IT!!!! Please? And thank God Jimmy Page is no Eric Clapton, because Eric Clapton is about as exciting as watching mold grow on bread. Jimmy Page might be sometimes crap live, but he is 2847720947729977294729010756572847 X the writer Clapton is. Even Clapton's most personal, emotion-filled song, when you just listen to the music and forget about the tragic story that accompanies it... lacks feeling! Because the guitar playing on that album is quite the opposite of "lacks feeling", at least according to me. Just wondering really, if you have - and disagree - that's fine. ChineseDemocracy2004
I love both bands, they both have great songs and great guitarists. I'm sure they'll be a song that people prefer but that's how people are and the song Layla is a masterpiece.

Shuffle
a lot of that is Duane Allman. From what I gather he played most of the slide but Clapton played more of the "normal" guitar... That's not saying that Allman didn't do a lot, I love his playing on the record and he definitely elevated most of the songs but that doesn't mean that Clapton's playing isn't amazing on that record. It's also the only Clapton record that I really like, I'm pretty indifferent to the rest he's done...

I never was blown away by a Clapton song (I'm sure I haven't heard most of his music, to be fair). The guitar on White Room is pretty cool though. appetite4illusions
I've always loved Clapton's playing, he was the real reason I picked up a guitar. I wanted to learn the outro solo to Let It Rain and played it every day for eleven months until I had it down.Jimmy Page has long since taken over as my favorite player in terms of composition, but I still think Clapton has an amazing feel to his playing.
