Electric Boys are back - at Sweden Rock of course!

2009_electricboys_small.jpg

Electric Boys debut “Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride” was an unprecedented thing on the Swedish hard rock scene in 1989. The blend of heavy rock and funk, influenced by Aerosmith as well as the Beatles, was quite different from both dominant subgenres at the time, hair metal and thrash. The following year, a somewhat different version of the album saw an international release, and the song “All Lips n’ Hips” got noticed – well, internationally.

Over The Rainbow, Dan Baird och Neal Morse confirmed!

There will be no reunion of Rainbow". These are the words from Ritchie Blackmore. So the closest we will ever get is OVER THE RAINBOW with 4/5 previous Rainbow members fronted by Joe Lynn Turner and with Ritchie Blackmores son on guitar, this could be pretty good!. DAN BAIRD, once the front man in Georgia Satellites will show up with his band Homemade Sin and charismatic NEAL MORSE will also appear at Sweden Rock Festival 2009. Read more under Bands 2009!

Time to present another 4 bands confirmed for this years edition of Sweden Rock Festival.

We start with swedish doom legends CANDLEMASS who will come to Sweden Rock with a brand new album in their luggage to deliver world class doom. TIM "RIPPER" OWENS is of course most known for being the replacement for Rob Halford in Judas Priest, but this extra ordinary vocalist shows that he can stand on his own two feet. HEAVY METAL!. We can also present Swedens own ABRAMIS BRAMA who will deliver doomy hardrock with lyrics in Swedish. Dont miss this cause they are something special!. Last but not least, extreme thrashers DESTRÖYER 666, all the way from Australia.!

Last bands confirmed for Sweden Rock Festival 2009

He used to be the lead singer of The Darkness. Now Justin Hawkins is back with his new outfit HOT LEG. German veteran metal band RAGE will deliver classic heavy metal and DEATHSTARS are coming with their "deathglam". Rest of the confirmed bands are: VAINS OF JENNA, BABYLON BOMBS, INNOCENT ROSIE, WITCHCRAFT, FOUREVER and HINDENBURG!

Well, a better setlist than we had last year, but it isn't near as good as the ones we've had the three years before that.

Anyway, I think I will see these bands if they don't play at the same time:

Heaven & Hell

In Flames

Motörhead

Dream Theater

Immortal

Flogging Molly

Blackfoot

Soilwork

Johnny Winter Band

And maybe a few songs of these:

Hammerfall

ZZ Top

Twisted Sisters

Europe

Lita Ford

Only 57 days left!

I don't think I'd pay to see any of the acts on the bill. Maybe Motörhead and Flogging Molly.

Scratch Motorhead off that list. I seen them at Download and they were fucking atrocious

Is Twisted Sister still that popular there to get that high a billing??

Yes they are. Atleast in Finland, but in nordic countries generally as well. Twisted Sister realesed a complication album for Finland only and when I saw them live (on their few dates in UK + nordic countries tour) Dee Snider said we ought to thank their tour manager who knew that TS (and "80's heavy metal") is still big in the nordic countries. Twisted Sister is propably one of the only bands of it's type I like, there's just something different about them. The band sounds.. true I guess - TS doesn't try to be New York Dolls or T. Rex.

Only one week away now!

Is Twisted Sister still that popular there to get that high a billing??

I do not really know weather they are still that popular, but they were bigger here than in other countries.

This is what SR writes about them when they present the band:

Twisted Sister's image, a mixture of glam rockers and drag queens, combined with the rebellious lyrics over thunderous metal riffs, struck a chord with virtually every young person in Sweden in 1984. The band's third album "Stay Hungry" certainly sold millions world-wide, but nowhere were they bigger than in Sweden, where the album sold way over 100 000 copies. So when the band returned to the stage after more than fifteen years, there was no question that they would.

Well, I'm home!

Worst weather ever. Did it matter? Not at all. This was a really great festival, except from the weather. Lots of great bands and concerts.

So, the bands I finally saw after all was these:

ZZ Top - Fucking great! Really. I've never liked this band before. Haven't heard much of them before, but what I've heard wasn't something I enjoyed at the moment. But this was really fucking great! I'll download their discography and listen through it. Great surprise for me. 9/10

In Flames - One of the best live-bands ever. Always loved them, and have seen them a few times now. This was however, the very best concert I've seen them perform. It didn't get worse because they played Dead end for the first time ever. Performed with Lisa Miskovsky as guest! 10/10

Lita Ford - Good. Nothing spectacular however. 5/10

Soilwork - Great band. Was wonderful to finally see them live. 8/10

Journey - Together with In Flames, this was the best concert. They both qualify for my top 15 list of favourite-concerts. 10/10

Motörhead - Great as always. Not much to say. Never disappoint anyone. 7/10

Dream Theater - Really great! The sound just disappeared in the middle of the concert however, and was gone for 10 seconds. Would have had better marks from me if they Pull Me Under. 8/10

Flogging Molly - I was disappointed. Thought they were okay, but I had much higher expectations. If this was an average-gig, I think they are a much better studio band than live-band. 5/10

Twisted Sisters - Really entertaining. Much, much better than expected. 6/10

Sabaton - Swedish National Anthem + Primo Victoria. 10/10

Concerts I partly saw:

Blackfoot - Saw a few songs. I would give the ones I saw an average of 5/10

Heaven & Hell - Very shitty sound. You could hardly hear anything else than the drums. Maybe it was the arrangers fault, but I will give it a very low rate. 2/10

Europe - Saw a few songs. Immortal was playing at the same time, and I gave them the priority. The little I saw was much better than expected anyways. 6/10

Immortal - I was head-banging alot this concert with the combination of much alcohol, and don't remember much to be honest.

Vains Of Jenna - One song. Don't know what it was called, but it was very shitty. 1/10

Hammerfall - Saw a few songs. Good enough. 6/10

They did WHAT?! I wish I was there, Dead End's a fucking amazing tune! If you don't mind my asking what was the rest of the setlist?

The crowd wasn't on top, but this was the coldest festival ever. we had minus-degrees (Celsius) every night after 8pm, so it's quiet understandable however.
