Zint Posted December 6, 2008 Share Posted December 6, 2008 I've been enjoying collecting the complete season releases of Saturday Night Live.It's great to finally get good quality copies of performances from George Harrison etc.But I've been REALLY waiting for Season 4. (1978-1979)This was the Holy Grail season for me.The first disc alone was worth the price!Stones,Devo and Zappa!The season started with the Stones!!Finally,after many bootleg upgrades it's great to score a quality release of this!Not only did they perform but they also participated in some skits.Mick Jagger with Dan Akroyd (as Tom Snyder) is great!The Zappa episode is one of my all time fav SNL episodes.Not only was he the music guest but he hosted as well.He was a good egg about it too and took part in some skits.Night On Freak Mountain is a classic!Devo...not everybody's cup of tea but I got into them....and it was through SNL that I did.The night that episode aired we were at a friend's house,and by the time Devo performed we were peaking on acid.I'd never seen a band like Devo before and peaking on acid made it extremely warped.But I really liked it and followed up on them after the show.The early years were cool but I eventually lost interest in them.I'll never forget that I first saw them on SNL though! As soon as I got home with this I slapped on the Stones episode!Man it looks great on this release!!Also this season features Peter Tosh (with guest Mick Jagger).That was excellent!Van Morrison was stellar as always.And the Blues Brothers are fun in their own way too!And it was great year for the cast as well!Nick The Lounge Singer,Candy Slice...and the ever inappropriate Uncle Roy...to name but a few.But regardless...completely worth it for the Stones and Zappa.Very cool! Estranged Reality Posted December 6, 2008 Share Posted December 6, 2008 Hah, what are the chances of this? I just put it on hold today. I have the first two seasons and need to buy 3 & 4. The packaging on the "limited" editions is great - after a few months they stop printing them and re-release the seasons in smaller, normal cases which aren't as nice.
